Here's my offer: The Yankees are behind the Red Sox by 6.5 now. If, at the All Star Break, they close to 3 or less, you win. On the other hand, if they are 10 or more down at the All Star Break, I win. Push at the AS break, if the Yankees are between 3.5 and 9.5 games down (inclusive).

Make it $160 and you got a deal

Confirmed!

If you look again, you fucking moron®, you'll note a) that the reference was to Elton John surgery and b) the problem happens to be with Papelbon's left elbow. Now I realize that Paps throws harder with his left arm than Mussina does with his right, but we're not particularly worried about his left.

One thing I can't understand is how somebody who knows a bit about the game like you can be a Red Sox fan ;
What I wonder is how someone who knows a bit about the world can be a General Motors, um, New York Yankees fan.

The Yankees spend, spend, spend and win nothing. How boring, how unsatisfying.

The Red Sox, 4th in player salary level, have turned into a player development machine. Home grown talent on their roster - they have 10 home grown players on their roster now, plus two more claimed off the scrap heap, players no one else wanted, guys named Wakefield and Ortiz.

Question- Are you going to watch Mussina pitch today at 1pm because it's going to be another lights out performance, not bad for a 39 year old.

Hello Folks,

The previous message was brought to you by: RCAU...Repetitive Cliches Are Us! Please stay tuned for many more repetitive worn out delusions.

Cheers,:D

Yes Rumples,

Ortiz - the most dangerous clutch hitter of the last 5 years.

Wakefield - still effective at a late age. Certainly better than Mussina.

Hey Josey,

I read somewhere yesterday that the Yankers had only lost to the Royals 4 times in the last 28 games they played. So, they should have been easy pickins, even for Mussina. Ohhhhh so close...Royals 3 Yankers 2...and your prediction down the tubes...again.

Cheerio,

Burnett open to Cubs trade

TORONTO - There are more issues for the Blue Jays this morning besides A.J. Burnett's honest answer to an honest question about whether he'd accept a trade to the Cubs. The fact that Burnett's openness to a trade is a talking point now as opposed to closer to the trade deadline is less a contributing factor than it is an indicative one. Burnett sensed he'd created an issue, to the point where, according to Vernon Wells, the two spoke about the matter before the game. Later, Burnett said he didn't care how the fans took the statement as long as they remembered the part where he stressed his focus was on pitching for the Blue Jays.

He'll be out a lot longer than 6 weeks. The cast stays on for 6 weeks. After it comes off, it's like spring training all over again. He'll need at least another 4 weeks to build up his arm strength and make several rehab starts. We won't be seeing him until at least the first of September.

The big question is: will Joe spend the next 10 weeks hiding under a rock?

Yep its looking like more and more that Sabathia will be a Yankee by July 31.

I have also heard Bedard's name being mentioned, one thing for sure is Hank isn't
going to bring in a corpse like Bartolo Colon who got bombed today and is a shell of his former self.

Hello Josey,

Here's an idea. The Tankees can resign Clemens again, this time for $40,000,000. It worked out so well last year didn't it...bwahahahahahaha.

Choke,

Actually, it's looking more and more like you'll be a fucking moron® by June 17th, Joe. Maybe the Yankees will send Mussina and Pettitte to the Tribe for prospects, seeing as (a) Cleveland is closer to first than the Yankees and (b) the Tribe has to catch the White Sox while the Yankees are gasping behind the World Champion Boston Red Sox led by MVP JD Drew.

Mets fire Willie Randolph!!

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Willie Randolph is out as manager of the New York Mets, fired in the middle of the night 2½ months into a disappointing season that has followed the team's colossal collapse last September.

The Mets had Willie Randolph manage the team Monday night in L.A. -- and fired him early Tuesday morning.
Bench coach Jerry Manuel takes over on an interim basis for Randolph, who led the Mets to within one win of the 2006 World Series. They got off to a strong start again last year but plummeted down the stretch and have been unable to rebound.

A preseason favorite to win the NL pennant, the $138 million Mets (34-35) had won two in a row when Randolph was let go early Tuesday morning -- making him the first major league manager to get fired this season.

Pitching coach Rick Peterson and first base coach Tom Nieto also were dismissed in an enormous overhaul that was revealed in a fact-of-the-matter Mets news release at a stunning time -- about 12:15 a.m. PDT (3:15 a.m. ET), nearly two hours after New York's 9-6 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.

Ken Oberkfell, the club's manager at Triple-A New Orleans, and Dan Warthen, pitching coach for the Zephyrs, will join the major league staff along with Luis Aguayo, a Mets field coordinator.

Mariners fire GM Bavasi

SEATTLE -- It was Bill Bavasi's last ditch effort, the desperation of a frustrated man trying to find a spark and save his job.

Two weeks ago, Bavasi locked the doors in the Seattle Mariners clubhouse and forced his underachieving 25-man roster to sit together and be publicly held accountable for their spiraling season.

Childish? Yes. Punishment? Yes. Bavasi's last attempt at salvaging his job as Seattle's general manager? Yep.

"What I did was stupid," Bavasi said Monday after being fired. "The goal was to have them for once be in the same place at the same time after a game, after they had played real poorly. Sometimes you lose and sometimes you get beat, there is a difference, and we have lost too many games."

Whether getting beat or flat losing, there's been too much of it in Seattle this season, and Bavasi was relieved of his duties Monday morning in the midst of his fifth season with the Mariners. Seattle is 24-45, worst in the majors, with a roster many thought had the talent to challenge the Los Angeles Angels in the AL West this season.

Now, the Mariners and their $117 million payroll are simply hoping to avoid 100 losses.

NEW YORK -- Yankees ace Chien-Ming Wang is expected to be sidelined until at least September after injuring his foot running the bases, prompting club co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner to chastise the National League for playing without a designated hitter.

An examination in New York on Monday showed Wang partially tore a tendon and sprained his right foot Sunday during the Yankees' 13-0 interleague win at Houston. He will be on crutches and wear a protective boot for a minimum of six weeks, the latest blow to the team's banged-up pitching staff. "My only message is simple. The National League needs to join the 21st century," Steinbrenner said in Tampa, Fla. "They need to grow up and join the 21st century. "Am I [mad] about it? Yes," Steinbrenner added. "I've got my pitchers running the bases, and one of them gets hurt. He's going to be out. I don't like that, and it's about time they address it. That was a rule from the 1800s."

Making a rare appearance on the bases at an NL park, Wang pulled up rounding third and hobbled home on Derek Jeter's single. Wang doubled over after scoring, pointed toward his right foot and was helped off the field. "This is always a concern of American League teams when their pitchers have to run the bases and they're not used to doing it," Steinbrenner said. "It's not just us. It's everybody. It probably should be a concern for National League owners, general managers and managers when their pitchers run the bases. Pitchers have enough to do without having to do that."

Wang is 8-2 with a 4.07 ERA in 15 starts after winning 19 games each of the last two seasons. The right-hander will join injured Yankees starters Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy on the disabled list. New York reliever Brian Bruney has a similar injury to Wang's and it is uncertain when he will return.

Steinbrenner said for now, the Yankees probably will have to look within the organization to find a replacement in the rotation for Wang. Right-hander Dan Giese is one possibility. Several attractive pitchers, including Cleveland ace C.C. Sabathia, could become available as the July 31 trade deadlines approaches.

The sinkerballing Wang has been the most consistent Yankees starter over the last couple of years. Mike Mussina and Andy Pettitte remain in the rotation, and Joba Chamberlain recently was converted from relieving to starting. Right-hander Darrell Rasner has been in a slump lately. Wang was well on his way to helping the Yankees finish a three-game sweep in Houston when he was hurt. He'd pitched five strong innings, and scored during an eight-run burst in the sixth that put New York ahead 11-0. Wang is 5-0 in seven road starts this season.

"It's a manager's worst nightmare when a pitcher's on a basepath," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said after Sunday's victory. "It's unfortunate."

After the game, Mussina summed up the problem that AL pitchers sometimes face at NL parks. "We don't hit, we don't run the bases," Mussina said. "You get four or five at-bats a year at most, and if you happen to get on base once or twice, you never know. We run in straight lines most of the time. Turning corners, you just don't do that."

Yep Colon sure was a great find, he hit 90 mph on the radar gun just twice in throwing seventy pitches last night, looks like his mangled arm is slowly winding down into retirment, time to bring back good ole reliable Clay Bucholz:eek:.

Hello Doc,

We can all understand how frustrating it must be to lose the team's best pitcher for over two months. Still, Hank's anger is little more than sour grapes when every team in the National League could lose a pitcher any day like this. Any team in the National League could reply that having pitchers take at bats and run the bases is how baseball was designed and that this is the game at it's purest. Even I don't like seeing the league lose a player, especially a top notch competitor like Wang, even if he is a Yanker. But it's just a bad break, not some sort of cheat.

Grow up Hank,

Korbel
