Gee what a offer, btyger would be quite proud of you.

Here is a wager that i think that is fair, lets see if you have the guts to back up your delusional posts, i am offering to wager you $160.00 that the Yankees win the next series against the Red Sox that will be at Fenway Aug 28,29,30, are you going to show a little bit of guts and take me on or will the female hormones in your body prove to strong.:)
Hey Rumpleforeskiin,

Can you tell when someone is deperate to wring any fun out of a season that is a total loss before the All-Star break? Here's a hint. Look for a desperate wager that has nothing to do with whether one team is better than the other and can't possibly be as satisfying as making the playoffs. Yep, when all one can hope for is petty bragging rights over a few games that will probably change nothing you have the key ingredient for..."DESPERATE"....of the genus Yankus Capitulatus.

From the front,

Korbel (Red Sox nation since 1966).

What, with the Sox resting their regulars for the post-season and the Yankees making a mad dash in a futile attempt to close the gap between them and the wild card leader?

Your 'genius' Cashman didn't willingly decide not to sign Matsuzaka, he failed to. He wanted him, he just grossly underestimated the market. Worse, he then panicked and OVER bid on one of the worst starters in baseball this year, Gay Igawa, then overpaid for Clemens.
Daisuke Matsuzaka 114 IP, 3.53 ERA, 1.19 WHIP
Hideki Okajima 41 IP, 0.88 ERA, 0.78 WHIP
Kei Igawa 47 IP, 7.14 ERA, 1.61 WHIP

Here's a list of all the Yankee starters with a better ERA than Daisuke Matsuzaka:

Now here's a list of all the Yankee starters with a better WHIP than Daisuke Matsuzaka:

OK. Here's a list of all the Yankee starters with more innings pitched than Daisuke Matsuzaka:

Now a list of all the Yankee starters with more strikeouts than Daisuke Matsuzaka:

And finally a list of all the Yankee starters with more wins than Daisuke Matsuzaka:

Wait. One more list. Here's a list of all the Yankees starters with paychecks more than double that of Daisuke Matsuzaka:
Roger Clemens
Andy Pettitte
Mike Mussina

My deepest condolonces my friend for all those years of suffering and pain that you have been through, my prayer's are with you, seeing that you have been a Red Sox fan since 1966 the chances of you seeing them win another World Series will pass you by, but look on the bright side and that is your grandchildren might be able to witness it..

Hi Joe,

LOL...truly that is the last recourse of a desperate Yankee fan. When all esle fails even a Yankee fan can count to 26. So how is Steinbrenner doing with his efforts to buy another World Series victory. Not too good huh. Do you know the Yankees had 7 players with salary contracts worth over $65,000,000 and the Red Sox had two in 2006. Matsui and Damon are not even among those seven and just those seven Yankee players have combined salary contracts costing $917,233,000 and no championships in "6" years. Throw in Matsui and Damon and their top nine salary contracts pay out more than a billion dollars. Last year the Yankees paid 11 players over $10,000,000 for the year compared to the Red Sox 3. Holy shit. All for NOTHING!!! At least all that money pays a lot of golf fees during the playoffs. This year all that money has gotten the Yankees 12 games behind...so far. WHOA!!! Way to get value for a billion there Yankee fans. But you can still chew on the past...fast becoming the long past.

Enjoy the game, :D

Clemens looks fucking awesome!!!, looks like he has his no hit stuff going!!!
What he doesn't have is a lead. He does look good today. No doubt he's the second best pitcher in this game today. Boy, does Lackey look good with his 7 K's through 4. Of course, he should look good. After all he's being paid more than 1/6 of what Clemens is getting.

With today's miserable failure, the $200,000,000 Yankees are now guaranteed to go to the All Star break with a losing record.

Too bad for Clemens and the Yanks. They could have been only... 10games back this morning had they won against their nemesis yesterday.
Yep, instead they're now 9.5 games back in the wild card. At this point, the Yanks would be better off if the Sox had beaten the Tigers the past two days.

Who is the pride of Asia?

Wang 9-4, 3.36 ERA (15 games started)

or

Matsuzaka 10-6, 3.84 ERA (18 games started)
And the answer is: Hideki Okajima 39 games, 0.83 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and the only Asian pitcher headed to the All Star Game.

Just remember who was the only person in god's green earth who picked Wang for the CY Young before the season started.

Expect a strong second half from Wang and the Yankees who usually play better in the second half of the season.:)

Bronx is Burning Miniseries

Tomorrow night starts the ESPN mini-series, "The Bronx Is Burning", about the 1977 Yankees team. More here:

http://www.courant.com/sports/baseball/yankees/hc-bronx0708.artjul08,0,2758547.story

I saw some previews and ESPN managed to rope in some very good actors: Oliver Platt plays George Steinbrenner and John Turturro portrays fiery Yankees manager Billy Martin. The actor they got to play Reggie Jackson I don't know, but his looks and mannerisms are very similar to Reggie's.

Not surprisingly, the real Reggie is furious that the makers of the miniseries did not contact him, despite the fact that he is the key figure in the miniseries.

I don't watch much TV other than sports but for me this is must-see TV, having lived through that season and attended several games that season (including a doubleheader sweep over the Detroit Tigers in which Yankees CF Mickey Rivers hit an inside the park homer, rounding the bases while Tigers RF Mickey Stanley argued fan interference with the ball in play) and watched the entire 1977 World Series as a kid. I do remember Howard Cosell's legendary "the Bronx is burning" comment during game 2 of the World Series.

I still consider Reggie's performance in the 1977 World Series, against some very good Dodgers pitching, to be one of the best of all time.

Hey guys,

Click on the trailer for the Bronx is Burning (debuting tonight on ESPN right after the Home Run Derby) and you will see a hysterical cameo by Jason Giambi, who plays a NYC taxi driver:

Click on "Bronx is Burning Trailer", go to left menu and click on "Bronx is Burning Trailer". I think Jason does a good job with the faux NY accent!

Alex Rios of the Jays is an all-star!!!

Nice to see Alex Rios of the Jays in the all-star game, being Toronto's only player to be asked to go to the all-star game. EB will be shocked to learn that Rios was also asked to take part in tonight's homerun derby. Just a couple of years ago, EB had Rios pegged as a bust & an outfielder with zero power. All along, i was assuring everyone who wanted to hear that Rios had a very good future ahead of him & had tremendous potential....to just be patient with him. I'll bet you that the New York Yankees would do anything today (or nearly) to obtain an outfielder such as Alex Rios. :D :D :D

I bet they'd stop at $100,000,000 for five year.:D There's absolutely no question that the Yankees don't have an outfielder the caliber of Rios.

Oh, and by the way, who was the moron who traded Gary Sheffield to Detroit for dogshit? Ironic, now, as it seems that this trade will likely keep the Yankees out of the playoffs. Maybe Sheff can get some of his Yankee buddies some decent tickets to watch the good teams play.
