These guys are all fabulous athletes, Kruk notwithstanding, and they don't have to beat each other's brains into blubber to prove it.
Speaking of beating each other's brains into blubber, has Ron Cey recovered from coma yet? ;) :D

And the lead rises again. The Bronx Bumblers, it seems, were shut out for six innings by a pitcher with a 7.14 ERA. Johnny Damon did get his first hit in a week, raising his average to .234. He now trails Coco by a seemingly insurmountable .031. His lead over Lugo is now less than 10 points after yet another 3 hit game for the Sox shortstop. And, by the way, in the last week Coco Crisp has four times as many triples as Johnny Damon has hits.

The Yankees really have no excuse for not sweeping a day night doubleheader with the hapless Rays today. The Rays start game one with a pitcher with a 6.11 ERA. With the Yankees countering with their mega-million Japanese star, Kei Igawa about whom it was once written by a noted scribe:

One more prediction, Igawa will win more games then D-Mat and maybe even Rookie of the year, care to make some bold predictions Reggy my boy or is your tail still stuck between your legs?:)

The Rays run another gem out in game two in JP Howell, he of the 6.62 ERA. That's nearly a full run better than that of the formerly immortal Matt DeSalvo, his opponent.

An easy sweep for the Yankees, no?

Hey Joe t.

Hey Joe T.

I hope you are enjoying your dreams immensely. It may be all the fun you will have on many days. What happened to Damon and your prediction for 8 Yankee wins together with simultaneous 8 Red Sox loses. Both drowning in the swamp...huh. Damon is rock steady at .234, and the Devil Rays, of all teams, sent the body of the Yankees to the morgue last night. But at least your top nine salaried players won't lose their billions because of a little...14-4 ANNIHILATION...lol! And with your stalwart Mussina pitching too...SAD!

Happy post mortem,

Korbel

I personally thought that was a good effort on a tough play by a terrible defensive player, i thought that they should have scored it a double and not a error, you know me K i call em as i see em.:)

A huge day for Coco. 3-4 with 5 rbi. He's now up to a near acceptable .271, nearly .040 above the corpse of Johnny Damon. It looks like the bats are back.

As optomistic as I'd like to be, it was Contreras and Danks  After tomorrow they have 3 coming up against a tough Cleveland team at the Jake.

I highly doubt it. The Yanks don't have it much easier going against a surging KC Royals team...and Clemens is scheduled to pitch, so there's a least 1 L.

You just might want to root for the Sox vs. Cleveland, Joe. They're the wild card leader at the moment.

His splitter is still pretty good, but his other pitches aren't. Clemens is looking so far like a league average pitcher, but I suspect he will get better as the season goes on.

Stats notwithstanding????? So you ignore the fact that he's 2-4 with a mediocre ERA and WHIP? You choose not to be confused by the facts?

By the way, he doesn't throw a "splinter." It's a "splitter," and, yes, it drops, when he doesn't hang it, which he's doing far too often.

Anyone know how long Big Pappi will be out for? At the start of yesterday's ballgame, the announcers were talking like it might be for a considerable amount of time. Any updates?

Day to day. He could be in the lineup today, though tomorrow is more likely.

MRI on Ortiz's shoulder reveals no damage

By Gordon Edes, Globe Staff | July 22, 2007

David Ortiz wasn't on the lineup card posted in the Red Sox clubhouse when he arrived yesterday afternoon.

About an hour later, he walked out of Fenway Park, confirmation that the designated hitter wasn't going to be appearing on national television, unless it was in a taped spot or advertisement.

Manny Ramírez hit in Ortiz's No. 3 spot as the designated hitter, Kevin Youkilis played first and batted cleanup, and Wily Mo Peña hit ninth and played left field in yesterday's 11-2 trouncing of the White Sox.

The Sox announced in the first inning that Ortiz had been taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for an MRI on his left shoulder. The test, according to the club, showed no structural damage.

Ortiz is listed as day to day with a strained shoulder.

Ortiz sustained the injury on an awkward, headfirst slide into second base during the fifth inning of Friday night's 10-3 win. Ortiz tried to stretch a single and was out on the play, though not before Coco Crisp scored on his hit.

I'll be at Today's Red Sox/Pale Sox Game .....Wakefield vs Garland.....The Knuckler should be dancing with the Wind @ NE 13 mph

A lot has to do with the direction of the wind. If the wind is in Wakefield's face, he's usually unhittable. If it's at his back, it can flatten out the knuckler.
