The reason the U.S. is pulling out and leave the Kurds behind is because they are useless in the eyes of the USA's intelligence. They refuse to fight Iran which is the main objective of Trump: to destroy Iran.
Got it dudes? When there is no mutual benefits, forget it! it's the basic rule in the world!

Why do it now? He is doing a lot right now to obfuscate as much as possible impeachment issue at home.

Cheers,

That's it. Trump is withdrawing troops from Syria so they can be used for his imminent assault on the Democrats in Congress.

$1million goes to Trump hotels every time he adds to the record number of days a president spends per year playing golf. Look at my next message to see one of the ways he benefited financially by withdrawing the troops which were serving as a buffer to protect the Kurds.

... And that is exactly why he donates his entire salary (minus $1, which of course demonstrates his true greediness), an obvious attempt to conceal his true demonic intentions. But we are not a gullible bunch here on merb, he won't dupe us so easily.

You appeared to have been, in your own words, duped rather easily.

From the donkey's mouth

Trump admitting conflict of interest: https://youtu.be/KSvfbc-YokY

Trump’s abrupt tweet abandoning the Kurds was sent soon after ending a phone call with Erdogan. The Trump Organization has myriad, ongoing investments in Turkey including, but not limited to the Trump Towers Istanbul, the flagship Trump property in Europe from which Erdogan has previously threatened to strip the Trump brand. Maybe the fact that the Government of Turkey spends more money at Trump International resorts than any other country in the world is not a coincidence.

Well, congratulations, a smoking gun indeed. The only question I have is how Trump who is universally recognized (on this board and elsewhere) as the dumbest person who has ever walked this earth, could possibly make this connection. Must have been Jared Kushner or someone else.

Trump is forcing our soldiers to abandon their comrades in arms, a betrayal that will haunt the US when they next seek allies to fight our fights.

GMA, although it hurts to admit that, this time I am in agreement with you. Betraying allies is extremely bad policy and it causes tangible damage to the country's vital interests.

Perhaps, Erdogen reminded him during their phone call which took place shortly before Trump's tweet in which he announced his new "policy initiative". However, as the video whose link I posted in #32 of this thread shows, Trump was already well aware that he has financial interests in Turkey. Incidentally his puppet master celebrated by moving his troops into the region.

Nice theory, even if completely ridiculous on its face. Trump is thinking of his reelection in 2020, not making a quick buck.

Many of Trump's decisions have involved conflicts of interest and I don't recall any in which he put the country's interest ahead of his own. Both parties appear to have condemned his abandonment of the Kurds and he has lost support from the Evangelicals also. Therefore, not only have his electoral prospects not improved, but he has annoyed some of his strongest supporters who he needs to survive impeachment.

Agree for the most part. This step (withdrawing the troops from Syria) was risky and it remains to be seen whether it works out to his advantage. And you are right, the Evangelicals are not exactly thrilled about it. Trump may figure they will still vote for him over any alternative, no matter what. We will see in November next year.

Impeachment is a different story, however. A total joke, in my view, and it only plays into Trump's hands.

The thought of impeachment annoys trump though......maybe he knows something that the dems haven`t found yet.
He is a schoolboy bully and from my experience bullies are the first to run away in a fight

Again, we will see soon enough how it all works out. Trump acts annoyed, true, but who knows whether he really is or it is just a mask. Whatever you think of Trump, like him or hate him, you got to admit that he knows a thing or two about winning elections. At this moment I can't see how this hilarious impeachment spectacle can possibly hurt him. It may change of course if they dig up something juicy.

The Kurds lost thousands of men in defeating ISIS. The US lost a dozen or so. The US military is heartsick that Trump is forcing our soldiers to abandon their comrades in arms, a betrayal that will haunt the US when they next seek allies to fight our fights.

Now you bring up the point: the US is using the Kurds to defeat ISIS that's all, now that ISIS is defeated; and they don't want to fight against Iran, there is no more mutual benefits, so the US cuts the cord. No loyalty, no free lunch in this world, trust me ! every country, every nation is just a small pawn in a chess board manipulated by the big guys !
By the way, who created this mess in Syria? if not saved by Russia, Bashar Al-Assad will end up like Kadhafi and Sadam by now!
Ask the Syrian people, they will tell you: better govern by a Dictator and have a job, peace, a house, and family; than fleeing Syria and live in a refugee camp with nothing now.

Isis was on its way to being defeated in Syria but the job was not complete when trump decide on a gut feeling to pull out US troops.
Now he regrets his decision . The prisoners will escape and join the Turkish Arab militias that already have Isis and other Islamist radical fighters in their ranks.
What a shitty mess !!
Erdogan out played the orange clown.

Cloudsurf,

Trump made it very clear that this is just part of a larger policy of removing the US and its troops from Middle East conflicts that have gone on for thousands of years. He also said very clearly that he believes most Americans do not want the troops over there and he is betting on this being a consensus of the American people. He made it clear that the conflicts will go on, but they will go on without the involvement of the US. Although I do not agree with most of Trump's policies, the policy he lays out here is plausible and rational:

https://www.cnn.com/2019/10/16/politics/donald-trump-lindsey-graham-turkey-syria/index.html

I agree with the troop removal decision. Keeping troops over there is a trap, you just get sucked in deeper and deeper with no end in sight to the myriad conflicts. These same groups have been warring for 1000 years, before the US ever existed and they can continue to do so without the involvement of the US. There is no net positive result because the conflict will not get resolved and will only serve to suck lifeblood out of the US, its military and resources.

If you believe intervention should continue, you and a group of Canadian do-gooders are free to finance it or get Canada to do so. Good luck with it, you will spend lots of money and lives and nothing will be changed after you do so. Look at the history and learn from it or repeat it.

Sol,

That article from the Toronto Sun showcases the typically paternalistic and patronizing western view of the Kurds as surrogates who are needed to do the “dirty work” of the United States and Canada in fighting ISIS. Maybe we ought not to be using them and propping them up as agents in a fight we don’t belong in, in the first place? The reason why terrorist attacks at American targets happened in the first place was because of the same US interventionist policies in the Middle East. It perpetuated and fed the rise of Al Qaeda and once they were wiped out ISIS took their place and once ISIS is wiped from the same interventionism you can name whatever new group will arise in response to the same policies 10 years from now. At some point you say stop the fucking insanity, the insanity being the notion that we owe these people something for assisting in a fight we don’t belong in. It’s a trash point of view completely rebutted by understanding history. You don’t keep repeating the same mistakes over and over and expecting different results. There hasn’t been different results in 1000 years or more! What needs to happen is GET OUT and STAY OUT.
