But if they finish 25th...is that an improvement over last season? I remember how certain Laffs fans were bragging when they simply pulled out of the basement. I remember rants of the genius of Burke...bawhahahahaha!!!

Great article as usual GHG...but the COMMENTS (from Leaf or ex-Leaf fans) are even better. Congrats to MOST Leaf fans who are finally realizing that their team sucks and their GM is nothing but an overweight pompous clueless blowhard.

i sympathize with Leaf fans. loyal and long suffering. now some of them do get full of themselves when the team shows any sort of promise.

Burke is a windbag. I'd like to see him around long enough to have to manage phil kessel's exit from toronto. windbag has him signed until 2013-2014 i believe. there's no way kessel re-signs in toronto with all the scrutiny he gets. so the GM will need to either watch him walk or trade him for a second rounder. i'd like to see Burke have to manage that with the toronto media writing about it every day.

Enough of the negativity: Let's congratulate the Leafs for losing in a shootout Saturday night. By picking up that crucial point for losing a few minutes later than they usually do, they have solidified their hold on 25th place, which for a wretched squad like the Leafs is a lofty position indeed. Go Leafs Go...all the way to the golf course (as usual).

Buy a Leaf dictionary and look up the meaning of "Playoffs". The Leaf dictionary gives this definition: "Extra games often played by the OTHER 29 teams in the league but never by Burkie's Busts." The Leaf dictionary even a includes a synonym : "Playoffs - synonym: early tee time for Toronto hockey players". What a great, accurate book!

Easy there, pal, not so quick. The Isles still have two games in hand and only trail the hapless Leafs by 4. There's still more than enough time for the Leafs to grab 26th.

So how about welvoming the new generation of Leafs fan out there.
Fans who are now proud of loosing in OT to the Rangers.
I guess that's what loyalty for ya !

Funny to hear all these so call loyal fans bitching about how we here in Mtrl didn't have patience for a team loosing and how there was SO much pressure on the team...
While there seem to be no pressure at all in TO when you loose, it seems that in Mtrl we are now showing the same kind of pussyfooting against our team.

I mean they're being paid millions to make us proud for God sake's.

You know what TO should do (instead of all the so call expert pedictions out here on how to 'FIX' the Leafs)...?

Easy : FIX both Phaneuf and Burke spread out on top of the Zambonis between periods for everyone to see.
Same should be done in Mtrl with Gauthier and Gomez !

And if that doesn't work... make them clean all the garbages of the Bell center and the ACC after the games; wearing a shirt that says 'I stink' !

Hey Boyz,

Cheer up urself Iggy...

It was A joke :)

I'm in a rather good mood since you guys deserted the hockey threads like never before,
Even before the end of the season.

I think THIS year, more than ever really hit YOU guys HARD.

True. Iggy has abandoned everything except pissing on the Canadiens. As I predicted so well, it's all there is left for Leafs fans.

Now it looks like all Leafs fans, except the die hard , are tired of Burke.

Burke has Leafs on wrong track: Poll

http://www.torontosun.com/2012/03/26/burke-has-leafs-on-wrong-track

TORONTO - Leafs Nation is restless.

Less than one quarter of the city think the Toronto Maple Leafs are on the right track, according to a new Nanos/Toronto Sun poll.

The exclusive poll finds Torontonians aren’t impressed with the Leafs and the leadership of embattled general manager Brian Burke.

The telephone poll asked 501 Toronto residents March 17-18: “Thinking about Brian Burke’s term as general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, do you think the team is on the right track or the wrong track?”

The results were as bad as the Leafs current nine-game home-ice losing streak.

“We get disappointment, confusion, malaise, all of those emotions when we ask that question,” Nik Nanos, president of Nanos Research, told the Sun.

A stunning 47% — almost half the city — were “unsure” what track the team is on, 30% of Torontonians think the Leafs are on the wrong track and only 23% of those polled thought the team was on the right track.

The poll was done a week before the Leafs racked up a 4-3 shootout loss against the New York Rangers Saturday night.

Nanos, a long-suffering Leafs fan himself, said the poll results are “not a very good endorsement of Brian Burke and the direction (of the team).”

“Only about 23% think things are moving in the right direction,” Nanos said. “I think this speaks to the frustration Torontonians have related to the team.

So who are the 30% of Hogtown residents who see the Leafs as being on the wrong track? Are they Montreal Canadiens fans?

“I hope not, I don’t think (Toronto) is that red,” Nanos said.

“I would say that 30% of the city is probably designed to always complain about the Toronto Maple Leafs going in the wrong direction.”

He suggested the Buds may be better off writing off the naysayers — like they’ve written off this NHL season — and focusing on the almost 50% of the city who aren’t engaged in the Leafs “progress.”

“Maybe the (Leafs) should start from the assumption, ‘you know what three out of every 10 Torontonians are going to gripe about what we do anyways, we’ve got one out of four in the bag, let’s focus on the rest that are up for grabs,’ ” Nanos said.

That’s the good news for Burke — if there is any these days — that almost 50% of Toronto isn’t even paying attention to how bad the Leafs are doing.

“At least there is an opportunity for the Toronto Maple Leafs organization to engage the city, put forth a plan and provide, yes, hope for the future,” Nanos said.

“If you’re a Toronto Maple Leafs fan you’ve got to have hope. That’s all we’ve had since 1967.”

Nanos said it’s clear from the poll most fans aren’t even looking for a Stanley Cup win, just some sort of plan.

“What most fans are looking for is not a guarantee as to performance but an idea of what direction that the team is going in, what is the plan and how he (Burke) is going to achieve that,” Nanos said.

“I don’t think there is a sense of that at this particular time.”

The poll is considered accurate plus or minus 4.4%, 19 times out of 20.

God help the "Hogtown" Leafs,

Merlot

BTW...ANYONE who thinks Burke deserves a contract extension after this year's results doesn't know anything about hockey.

Oh look ! what I've been saying all along... ! The Leafs needs more what ?
http://www.torontosun.com/2012/03/27/leafs-coach-we-need-more-pride-passion

Not money or draft statistics like the kinda stuff that two 'real experts' usually told us out here as if we didn't know sh!t and that we had a lot to learn...

"Pride and passion..." the stuff that I keep saying is gone here in Mtrl which used to carry the team up to the cup or at least in the finals.

The kinda stuff that Halak brought us 2 years ago that whipped the team in frenzy to play a lot better than everyone expected them to be able to.
The same stuff that Thomas brought to the Bruins last year that shut the Sedins to snatch the cup.

Bu today's so called 'experts thinks that you absolutely need players, coaches or GMs with over-expanded egos or muscles in order to win.
FAIL !

There's nothing like a team where everyone feels proud and passionate on what they do.

This is what we used to have with the Habs and no... it isn't the BS excuses that I've heard from so called experts that made it impossible for others to win the cup back in those days.

This is also what happened to Edmonton after.
It was the pride of playing with Gretzky (a guy who won Hart 8 years in a row) along Messier and the others.

So despite all the money TO have and all it's geniuses at marketing this franchise even if they loose...

What the Leafs needs is to be proud again !
But before you can get proud... you really have to acknowledge once and for all that you screwed up big time.

And that's it - the Leafs are officially out.
Out of the playoffs maybe, but not officially out of last place in the division. After tonight, they fall to 14th in the division, a mere 2 points ahead of the Habs. Brian Burke is a fucking genius. He sure knows how to get those high draft picks.

My buddy just called me wanting to make a bet that the Habs will finish ahead of the Leafs.

By Gawd !! I mean... to actually bet about who will be the last between the Leafs and the Habs is unbelievable !

This is sick :)

Tell you what ! I bet that both team will keep their Greatest Moron !
Trying to makes us more proud !

Leafs laugh-ematically eliminated

This has to be one of the most epic collapse in NHL history. When Burkie said he had a 5 year plan was it a plan for total failure.

When the Kessel trade was made I stated that the Leafs would regret it for the next 5 years. One of the worst trades ever made period. The Leafs would be in a much better position with Tyler Seguin than they will ever be with Kessel. Burke has to be fired, the sooner the better.

Kessel is one of the most lop-sided, one way players in the history of the NHL. Not since John Bucyk has one player so totally ignored the defensive side of the game in the name of padding his offensive statistics. The Leafs will continue to suck until they dump this bum.

Hello Real Hockey Fans,

Anyone else notice the silence from our Leafs pals? How can I enjoy my morning coffee without the hockey wisdom of our two resident Toronto geniuses, especially our favorite Burkephiliac.

Damn, seems like the Leafs in first was half a century ago.

Go Habs Go,

Thank Heaven for the Leafs!

Without this hopeless sad sack bunch of misfits, we would not have had 45 years of continuous laughter!

And special thanks to that incompetent blowhard of a GM for making the last 4 years the funniest of all!

... again, the Leafs, even tho not making the playoffs, learned what it takes by not making it, if you can understand that.

Hilarious rationale of the month:

In the 45th year of failing, the Leafs learned what not to do by failing again. They didn't learn after 44 years of failing, but now they finally got it. Yeah ...we understand. BWAH!!!

The rationale of a very desperate fan, the same one who has said Burke had everyone on the right track though his team will finish with their worst ranking in three years.

Somebody is desperate to find a rose among weeds.

Pages and pages of great comments in response to the idiotic article by Shoalts - and the best part is that nearly all the comments are from LEAF FANS who have finally woken up and stopped drinking the Koolaid. Overwhelmingly, they admit that the franchise is an abject failure and that Burkie is a worse-than-useless emperor with NO clothes.
