Gotta agree with JackJones! Connolly is one concussion away from retiring to Wawa, ON!

These guys who've got a history of concussions become targets for younger + fringe players. It's like a badge of honour to knock one of these guys out of the game permanently. I can see Timmy getting rocked his first couple of games as a Leaf!

Could be in the first game of the season against the Habs. One crunching hit from Cole and he's history.

Anyone else feel the Markov signing was excessive? Mid-30s Dman with a very recent history of knee problems and he gets a raise???

Honestly think losing Markov was acceptable.
Losing James Wisniewski will hurt more IMO.

Let's hope he's recovered well because when healthy he is one of the top 4 defenceman in the league. If so, watch out for the Habs next year!!!

Yashin not renewed in KHL now looking to return to NHL...

WTF?!?!?!

Isnt that backwards???

So Yashin is washed up in the KHL and his agent apparently thinks he's got enough talent to return the top league at age 37. That's a joke. Now, I can't wait til Columbus, Florida or Colorado sign the clown.

The Leafs are looking for a #1 center, maybe Blowhard Burke made him an offer?

Alexei Yashin update: Agent claims that one NHL team sent an offer

http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/...agent-claims-that-one-nhl-team-sent-an-offer/

Is Yashin still going out with 52 year old cougar Carol Alt?

The closest Toronto will ever come to the Stanley Cup will be at the beginning of this season when the Bruins carry the Cup into their home arena...the Toronto Dominion Garden.

The leafs are really excited about the upcoming season: in just 8 short months they'll be heading out to the golf course. It's their favorite time to play: in early April almost all the other NHL players are still playing HOCKEY, so the golf course is not crowded!

With the start of a new and exciting hockey season rapidly approaching, it's time to bump up this thread. We have to start early...because we know that hockey season for the leafs ALWAYS ends early!

Good luck to the Leafs in their soon-upcoming DRIVE FOR 45.

I have every confidence that they will achieve this lofty goal.

They have the right players (including 1. The Invisible Man and 2. The Most Overrated Player in the Entire NHL as Voted on by NHL Players themselves.)

They have the right coach (The Most Hated in the Entire NHL as Voted on by NHL Players themselves).

And most importantly...drum roll please...they have the right GM in Brian "Waiter, another plate of cheeseburgers" Burke.

Go Leafs Go! Soon it will be 45!!!

Great news for Leaf fans: they will NOT have an epic collapse like a certain overrated baseball team.

Why not? Simple - no one EVER predicts success for the Leafs so no matter how much they suck, it will just be what was expected.

You might have a shred of credibility of your team had actually done something in the last 6 seasons - lets check the record again:

* 2005–06 : missed playoffs

* 2006–07 : missed playoffs

* 2007–08 : missed playoffs

I'm starting to notice a trend here ...

* 2008–09 : missed playoffs

* 2009–10 : missed playoffs

* 2010–11 : missed playoffs

Remedial Math Class: Class, please look at this subtraction example and try to remember the answer. Here goes:

2011 - 1993 = 18. Please note, class: 18, NOT 19.

Completely agree! The standings are truly bizarre - but that's why it's an 82 game season. By the end of the year, the ship will have righted itself and these current Alice-in-Wonderland standings will be nothing but a laughable memory.

Well well, maybe Alice has finally emerged from the looking glass.

When I posted this yesterday, the 29th place (!) Stanley Cup champion Bruins were about to play the 1st place (!!!!!!??????????!!!!!!!!!) Leafs.

Reality returned, as the Leafs were completely humilated in a 7-0 thrashing. As B's fans repeatedly said thank you to Brian "Quick, another plate of cheeseburgers and fries, and by the way where are those milkshakes I ordered" Burke, Tyler Seguin scored a hat trick against the team responsible for giving him to the Bruins.

Meanwhile the Leafs new superstar goalie (ha ha ha ha ha) was unceremoniously yanked after giving up 5 goals on 14 shots. Hey, not so bad - he DID stop 9. Luckily for the Leafs they were able to replace the new superstar with the Monstrosity...who allowed "only" 2 more goals.

A lot of fun...a LOT of fun!

Oh and by the way what was that caterpillar doing sitting on top of Ron Wilson's lip? Don't tell me it's supposed to be a 'stache because if so it's the LAMEST 'stache in hockey history!

Mike Babcock wants struggling Red Wings to 'focus on the process'

Mike Babcock paused on his way to his post-practice run to quickly address the media this afternoon. Mired in an 0-5-1 stretch after Thursday's 4-1 loss to Calgary, the Detroit Red Wings' coach didn't see what else he could say.

"What can I tell you that's new between yesterday and now?" he said, laughing. "OK, how about this: I'm a big believer that if you do good things, good things happen. I think, over time, that's the case. We lost six games in a row, I guess, the year we won the Cup (in 2008), but in saying that, I've never had a team that played this way and lost. So we've just got to stick with it.

"The other thing is I'm a big believer that you focus on the process. You don't win by focusing on winning. You win by focusing on the process, being good on the forecheck, being good in your own zone, being diligent and going about your own business. If you're a scorer and you're not scoring and you focus on scoring, you ain't going to score. Focus on getting in the right spot. Focus on taking the body. Focus on getting to the net. Focus on shooting the puck. Do the little things right, and everything looks after itself."

Everyone practiced today except forward Patrick Eaves, who is day-to-day with a sore back. Pavel Datsyuk was with Todd Bertuzzi and Danny Cleary, while Henrik Zetterberg was with Valtteri Filppula and Johan Franzen. Jiri Hudler was dropped to the third line, with Darren Helm and Justin Abdelkader. Cory Emmerton centered Drew Miller and Tomas Holmstrom.

Every big-minute forward on the team is struggling right now. The Wings have just six goals the past six games, an unbelievably anemic pace for a team with such gifted offensive players.

"We just have to do what we're supposed to do and trust each other," Zetterberg said, repeating what has been mentioned after pretty much every loss. "If we do the right things, there's a good chance we'll win games."
