It's funny to see you guys looking for excuses that your team wasn't good enough because 'Quebec born players were better...' and the Habs had an unfair advantage.

Without dating myself, it was common knowledge in the 60’s & 70’s, the Habs enjoyed a monopoly on Quebec born players

Some will suggest the “French Canadian Rule” was just one element of their dynasty, the other being Trader Sam Pollock!

Boucher was never fired. He was offered the Tampa job and like most teams do, the Habs released him so he could get a promotion. Kirk Muller will be the next to go after being groomed by the greatest organization in the NHL. Any chance Tim Hunter gets a promotion.

Wow ! Didn't take long to come up with another reason...
Maybe Habs had very good coaching too ? Selke and Blake weren't born in Quebec and Scotty went along coaching another great team like the Wings ?

Duh !

Guess you dind't know but half of the Habs Hall of Famers weren't born in Quebec.

And one of the best (Habs) Hockey teams of all times in 1976-77 included names like
Ken Dryden, Steve Shutt, Pete Mahovlich, Bob Gainey, Larry Robinson and Doug Jarvis who happened to be born outside Quebec.

Now if you're sayin that Habs had a monopoly on French Canadian players (back then) because all the other teams were dumb enough not to learn enough of a bit of french to accomodate those players then I would agree with you !

Then I would also agree with you that the fact some guys like Michel Bossy, Mario Lemieux and Martin Brodeur who learned english help other teams to win some of the cups since the 80's.

This would then conclude at : not learning french was a reason for suc*king at Hockey for so long in NHL history.

But that would not explain why the Leafs have the 2nd highest amount of cups...

Then again... nothing can explain I guess the Leafs past and present situation ! :lol:

There was one rider however. None of these players could have already been previously signed to a C form (confirmation form) with any other club.

Quite true. Many don't realize Kirk Muller once played for the Leafs, which are, as our friend Octavian just said, the greatest organization in the NHL....and throughout the hockey world.

Specially this part : I believe this fallacy was born primarily by frustrated anti-Montreal fans who for decades suffered through parade after Stanley Cup parade. People who I have interviewed on this very topic include, Sam Pollock, Scotty Bowman, Dick Irvin, Marcel Pronovost, Rod Gilbert, Yvan Cournoyer and numerous others.

Well, i guess it would of been better if they went after Stamkos and Roloson. Dont get me wrong, not a bruins fan but want them to reach the finals so the Leafs get that additional 2nd round pick for Kaberle...(cause im not to sure they will resign him the way he has played) they can make the finals and then lose to Vancouver or San Jose. :thumb:
