Hell, i dont care if Johnny's lil adopted Ontario brother Jorge told daddy that he flunked because their Quebec born dog Fido ate his homework, it is still a fact that Yes the habs had a monopoly on the best players available years and years ago, no excuses at all, cause it is all True. Woof! oops, Fido hungry.

What a game last night, the red wings are still alive.

It's funny to see you guys looking for excuses that your team wasn't good enough because 'Quebec born players were better...' and the Habs had an unfair advantage.

It's like little Johnny who tells momy that he flunked in school because all the others are better than him.

I am in agreement with Merlot & Igna

Without dating myself, it was common knowledge in the 60’s & 70’s, the Habs enjoyed a monopoly on Quebec born players

Some will suggest the “French Canadian Rule” was just one element of their dynasty, the other being Trader Sam Pollock!

Claude Julien, Guy Boucher, and Alain Vignault, 3 french canadians who learned and perfected their trade in Montreal with les Glorieux. You cannot ask for a better coaching school.

Well of course they are. I can't believe anyone would have expected anything different.

By the way I liked Mike Modano's line about strategy: "Simple: get the puck to Pav and then watch him beat three guys."

I agree. And they all got fired by the Habs. Sad.

(Does Jacques Lemaire count?)

Boucher was never fired. He was offered the Tampa job and like most teams do, the Habs released him so he could get a promotion. Kirk Muller will be the next to go after being groomed by the greatest organization in the NHL. Any chance Tim Hunter gets a promotion.

Ottawa would be smart to grab Muller before Dallas does, and im sure Muller would love to stay close to home.

Wow ! Didn't take long to come up with another reason...
Maybe Habs had very good coaching too ? Selke and Blake weren't born in Quebec and Scotty went along coaching another great team like the Wings ?

Duh !

Guess you dind't know but half of the Habs Hall of Famers weren't born in Quebec.

And one of the best (Habs) Hockey teams of all times in 1976-77 included names like
Ken Dryden, Steve Shutt, Pete Mahovlich, Bob Gainey, Larry Robinson and Doug Jarvis who happened to be born outside Quebec.

Now if you're sayin that Habs had a monopoly on French Canadian players (back then) because all the other teams were dumb enough not to learn enough of a bit of french to accomodate those players then I would agree with you !

Then I would also agree with you that the fact some guys like Michel Bossy, Mario Lemieux and Martin Brodeur who learned english help other teams to win some of the cups since the 80's.

This would then conclude at : not learning french was a reason for suc*king at Hockey for so long in NHL history.

But that would not explain why the Leafs have the 2nd highest amount of cups...

Then again... nothing can explain I guess the Leafs past and present situation !

You might want to read an article before you link to it.:nono:

There was one rider however. None of these players could have already been previously signed to a C form (confirmation form) with any other club.

Especially when it proves you wrong.

Quite true. Many don't realize Kirk Muller once played for the Leafs, which are, as our friend Octavian just said, the greatest organization in the NHL....and throughout the hockey world.

Yep ! Thanks for pointing this out G1G

Specially this part : I believe this fallacy was born primarily by frustrated anti-Montreal fans who for decades suffered through parade after Stanley Cup parade. People who I have interviewed on this very topic include, Sam Pollock, Scotty Bowman, Dick Irvin, Marcel Pronovost, Rod Gilbert, Yvan Cournoyer and numerous others.

BTW You might want to check your credentials on this one Merlot :eyebrows:

Bruins are a mirror image of their fans - no class

Milan Lucic and Nathan Horton going after a 20-year-old Swedish defenceman and Dominic Moore with 40 seconds left in a 5-2 game?
No class.
For the ensuing 5-on-3, Guy Boucher sending out Nate Thompson, Teddy Purcell, Adam Hall, Randy Jones and Mike Lundin?
Class.

Let’s hope the classier team wins this series.

Well, i guess it would of been better if they went after Stamkos and Roloson. Dont get me wrong, not a bruins fan but want them to reach the finals so the Leafs get that additional 2nd round pick for Kaberle...(cause im not to sure they will resign him the way he has played) they can make the finals and then lose to Vancouver or San Jose. :thumb:

I'm with ya brother!

Question? Does Brian Burke and Dave Nonis get rings if the Canucks win the sup? They both were HUGE parts of putting that team together

Example:

Ryan Kesler
Daniel Sedin
Henrik Sedin
Roberto Luongo
Kevin Bieksa
Cory Schneider
Alexander Edler
Mason Raymond

Where would the Canucks be without those guys? Probably on the golf course with the habs.

Go Canucks!

LOL,

Isn't it funny how superburke is so damn fabulous at building other teams into juggernauts, EXCEPT his current project whose record is still below his predecessors for the same team. Yeah, yeah, it takes time. You would think that at least there would have been improvement over three years ago.

The Bruins bombed beyond belief last night. They sucked, there's nothing else to say.

Cheers,

Merlot

You havnt a clue, and never will sadly, what it takes to build from the ground up, not everyone gets hired to take over a team like a Tampa or Vancouver.. Yes the bruins looked bad, but they will rebound, i hope, i want that PICK!
