They can't chose Marc-Andre Fleury. The Penguins are not allowed to submit his name to the list of players available due to his non-movement clause in his contract. Same thing with Carey Price.
Ok, Muray even better.
But it seems the owners in Vegas will have three test runs to try and see what the Vegas market prefers: older veterans competitive now, young good in the futur or a mix of the two.
As you say it is a very different market, the customers are transient travelers, gamblers, people getting free casino tickets, mixed with some local fans and fans of the visiting team...

I don't know if you are not overestimating how much hockey quality these fans will want to see. If as you surmise these fans are high rollers and out of towners and tourists, they will be fans of other teams and will want to see those teams kick some Vegas ass! Toronto based tourists will want to see a Leafs win. Therefore it actually makes sense to have the team oblige these fans who have no real allegiance by racking up some 10 win seasons. As the team gets better the local fan base will grow and supplement the tourists coming to see their own team kick ass on the Gamblers. So I think the blueprint calls for them to suck horrendously and lay down for the NHL for a while, stockpile draft picks, and show some improvement after a few years.

Congratulations to PK Subban to have been named one of the captains for the upcoming NHL All-Star game. Well done, Pernell! :thumb:

We'll see. Personally, i have no interest in going to Vegas to see the Leafs beat them 10-0. I'd rather go see them if it's a good and close game. I think most fans feel the same way. Basically, i'm saying i won't go out of my way to travel to Vegas just for a hockey game if the home team sucks donkey balls and gets blown out of the game on a regular basis. Even if it's my favorite team blowing the Vegas team away.

They also gave up 10 in ONE GAME! "Atta Boy!" ;)

Auston "The Great" continues his dominance with another 2 points through 2 periods tonight in D.C. so far. One was a highlight reel assist to Uncle Leo!

The way this kid's game is continuing to get better and better, you may have to change McDavid and Crosby to Matthews before the season is over EB as far as leading scorer in the NHL (yes I am joking, well, half joking)

Got to remind you guys that the habs did also scored 10 goals in a game this year, just saying ;)

Cheers,

Columbus Blue Jackets Win 16th Straight Game

Edmonton has been beaten 3-1 as the Columbus winning streak has hit 16, the 2nd longest win streak in NHL history.

They will tie the Penguins for the longest winning streak in NHL history with a win at Washington Thursday night. The Caps have played well at home lately

What was surprising last night was that one of the league's worse teams (Buffalo) kicked the Rangers asses last night in a 4-1 drubbing. I predict that the only way the Rangers will squeak into the playoffs is via a wild card spot.

I would like to bet against that prediction. Just like the NFL, any team can beat any team on a given night, they are called upsets and they happen all the time and in the end the best teams always get in.

I agree. But i think for the most part, the Rangers have been playing over their heads during the first couple of months of this season. Now things have settled down and theyr'e back to playing like the average team they are. I mean, come on, for a while Michael Grabner was on pace to score 80 goals!

The Flames played over their heads 2 years ago and lasted into the playoffs, not sure but I think 8 players had their best year ever that year. People would also be saying Columbus is playing over their heads, who at the beginning of the year would have predicted them to be in first place.

The Rangers won last night and are tied for second in the Eastern Conference with 55 points, with Pittsburgh. They are only 3 points behind Columbus. Enough said.

If Columbus wins tonight their winning streak would be more impressive than Pittsburgh in 1992 due to playing in a salary capped league and having no Lemieux or Jagr on their roster. What John Tortorella has done with this team since taking it over dead last in the NHL last year is among the most remarkable turnarounds in NHL history. Simply an incredible job and I salute Torts and his staff for being on the cusp of history.

Columbus was dead last in the NHL last year??? Really?? I'm shocked they chose to draft someone else instead of Auston Matthews.

The Caps showed some pride tonight.......they said "no celebration will be happening on our ice!!!!!!!!!" Just a bigtime slapdown of Columbus and their 16 game winning streak.

On a happy side note the GEO beat Boston, 10th overall.... Have not said that at the 40 game mark for a long time.

Bout time the "Oil" are respectable after years of being the joke of the NHL, good to see actually. However if there is a model for a current rebuild it is the Leafs. Less than 2 years in, tonight the Babcock led young Leafs are in a playoff spot after another impressive win, this time against NJ.

Next up, Montreal tomorrow night at the home friendly ACC. With games in hand the Leafs can take a big step towards continuing to stay in a playoff spot with a win against the canadians. I hope they start Freddie Andersen as he was electric once again tonight and Price no doubt will be in the habbies net.

GO LEAFS GO!

PS.....Phenom Auston Matthews scored again.
