I watched the highlights and found out that there was a goalie interference that went there way, so it seems that they got a bit of s break as well. So far they have showed that they are capable of playing great defence as a collective unit. I just wished that they could be more consistent. I mean why couldn’t they come out with the same intensity in game 4 as in game 5 ?
All season long the Leafs didn't win a single decision they contested. Several of those plays looked like the officials would rule in the Leafs' favor but they didn't. Toronto is also the team which has the least power plays in the playoffs. I don't think they got a single one last night although Boston were given 4 or 5 if i recall. What i'm saying is that they've been way overdue for a break.
Was there interference? Possibly. But the ruling on the ice was that it was a good goal and only a 100% conclusive replay would have been required to reverse the goal. I believe the league ruled that Rask would not have been able to move to his left even had he there not been any contact with Hyman. Also possibly the fact nothing was intentional on Hyman's part and the contact was obviously incidental and minimal.
I actually thought Boston's lone goal would be reversed. The replay of the goal was ordered by the league and from my eyes it looked like Marchand was offside on the play. But like i mentioned previously about the Matthews goal the officials and initially ruled it a valid goal so they couldn't overturn it since the replay was not 100% conclusive. So i call it even.
Good for Toronto to finally get a break in this series. But had the league reversed the Matthews goal it doesn't mean that Toronto wouldn't have scored another afterwards. That's hockey.
As for why they didn't come out the same way in game 4 well this is what playoffs hockey is all about. I thought Toronto had played very well but Boston capitalized on the early breaks they got. For a moment i thought the Leafs would end up tying it and going into overtime but the Bruins got an empty-net goal to seal it. Also give credit to Tukka Rask for making the big stops in that game. He's been solid throughout the series, same thing with Andersen. Teams advancing in the playoffs usually have hot goaltenders and so far this has been the norm throughout these playoffs.
Tomorrow's game is a 3pm start. This could be advantageous to the Bruins who have played many afternoon games this season (to satisfy US tv networks) while Toronto has barely played any afternoon games. But who knows....this is playoffs hockey.
