I take it back, the Lups deal was good for Toronto... had not tuned into the throw-ins Jake Gardiner + cond.pick. That's a good deal for the Buds!

The only bad thing about the deal is Lupul's contract. But he could turn his career around with a fresh start. Would anyone rather have Scott Gomez?

Reimer looked good in net last night against the rejuv'ed Devils. I was impressed with his cool play.

Reimer has had only one somewhat bad game since he's been with the Leafs. I saw him play for the first time last September in an exhibition game held in London, Ont. Immediately after the game, i told Iggy: "I love that Reimer kid!"

He reminds me of a young Curtis Joseph. Cool, collected, big enough, plays the angles well, his team plays with confidence in front of him, etc.

Colby Armstrong likely to miss Habs game

I just heard on tv that Colby Armstrong is suffering from blurry vision & is likely to be put on the shelf for a week. Damn!

Jonas Gustavsson update

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Friday that goaltender Jonas Gustavsson underwent a minor heart ablation procedure today in London, Ontario. The determination to have the procedure was made after Gustavsson was examined Friday by the same medical specialists that treated him in the first half of the 2009-10 season. He can begin workouts in seven days.

Gustavsson was assigned to the Toronto Marlies (AHL) for conditioning purposes on February 4. His conditioning assignment has been suspended and he has been placed on Injured Reserve.

Gustavsson has played in 23 games for the Maple Leafs this season and has registered a record of 6-13-2, a goals against average of 3.29 and a save percentage of .890. In two games with the Marlies, he has earned two wins, 0.75 goals against average and a .966 save percentage.

Best wishes to Gustavsson, seriously.

Kris Versteeg is now a Flyer

Depending what round the 2nd pick is gonna be (story just broke and as of now it is only confirmed that the Leafs got 2 picks for KV, and one is the Flyers 1st round pick in the 2011 draft later this year) it looks to be a very good trade for both clubs, not only does it give the Leafs a first rounder to replace the one we traded for Kessel, but a 2nd pick as well, but also it knocks off over $3 million towards the cap.. with Jiggy and Kaberle to come off the books at seasons end (or before if there traded) this opens the door to be able to sign Brad Richards or a Zack Parise or anyone else that could possibly become available.

I really liked Versteeg, but getting 2 picks (one a first rounder) and knocking off 3 million from the cap for a 40-50 point guy with a skeptical back problem, is a good thing. Not sure how the Leafs faint playoff hopes will move forward now, unless one of the young guns from the Marlies can contribute in a big way.... Kadri time again? Probably not, maybe Brunnstrum, or Mueller again?? So basically, Burke traded Stalberg for a first rounder and another pick, not bad BB, not bad at all!

Somehow, i have a feeling Burke is not done before the trade deadline next week. :)

Just got word the second pick was for a 3rd round pick in this years draft, so that is a First round and a third round pick for Versteeg. So in reality, Stalberg (who is on pace for 24 points this season, and is 25 years old) was traded for a 1st and a 3rd rounder....

I like this deal alot, i was expecting a 5th or 6th round pick when this story broke and all that was known was the 1st round pick and "another one". The farm is getting deeper, now we just need to get 2 top forwards. Nice job Brian Burke. Indeed!

PS, this is most likely just pieces to a BIGGER deal coming. That first round pick Burke just got might very well be the icing on the cake so to speak in a much bigger deal for a Top offensive weapon..... stay tuned

Toronto now has a first, second and third round pick in 2011. They now have what is needed for an offer sheet this offseason if they dont trade for something better before. So many things in play here are getting closer to fruition.

Word is that Burke wanted James Van Riemsdyk. However, the Flyers refused to part with him. Maybe that's when the 1st-rounder came into play. Burke said all along he preferred a top prospect over a draft pick. Oh well, he got two good picks instead. Zac Parise in a Leafs jersey next season? Hmm....

By the way, this is a fantastic deal by Mr. Burke & his team! :D

The Leafs have recalled Christian Hanson to fill-in for the departed Versteeg.

I was wondring who they were gonna recall..... Hanson has been playing extremely well and deserves a shot. But dont get to relaxed, Burke is not done yet. Btw, Bob Mckensie and other Hockey Experts are saying this was a very good trade for the Leafs, as well as the Flyers, a win/win.

The Leafs ...

So many things in play here are getting closer to fruition.

Like Rogers Wireless making purchase of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd !

That's the only way for the most lucrative Sports Franchise in the NHL to RISE BACK
at the Top of the league much like they did in the early 90's with :
The Cat , Dougie , Wendel & Andreychuk !

Not Via the idiocies of Brian B.

I take it you dont like the mastermind that is Brian P. Burke? .... lol...... the man is on a mission and the Leafs orginization as a whole is in ALOT better shape now and for many years to come. True Leafs Fans that follow this team can obviously see this, but fans who do not follw the Leafs everyday will not understand this.

Darling I like the Leafs ! I really do ! As a teen I loved Doug Gilmour and has a Leaf he was sensational !
I haven't commented much on the board this season , but trust that I'm keeping myself abreast
of all events surrounding my Habs & our Leafs.

Rogers will have ownership of the Leafs by 2012 .

Monster game by Kessel & Grabovski tonight!!! Wow!!!!

This might just be the best game i've seen Grabovski play...heck, it might be the best game any Leafs player has played all season!!

Nice to see the Leafs win one without Colby Armstrong in the lineup. Hopefully, his absence won't be a long one. I was watching TSN 2 tonight & it appears imminent that Tomas Kaberle will wind up with the Bruins. Panelist Aaron Ward was saying he's exactly the type of player the Bruins need to set-up Chara.

Big game in Buffalo tomorrow night. Huge comeback by the Sabres against the Habs tonight. In a way, too bad they came back, since they're one of the teams that the Leafs need to catch up.

Great game by the Buds indeed!....... Kessel and Grabo both hit the post and could of easily been a 5-3 game, did Seguin even play???? lol....... Kessel got the monkey off his back and even chara's dirty play couldnt keep Grabo down.... what a winning goal by # 84........ Reimer was a stud in goal again. Good show boys!

Another reason to like visiting this thread... SexyNadya!

Burke should get some tips from Nadya RE building a great line-up!

Just glad to see Burke undoing some of his bad moves... next up, hire MacT and find a whole new L2 + Top D!
Toronto might actually have something good there in Reimer... pretty impressive everytime out. He isn't related to the Commercial real estate guy Reimer is he???

BTW, really hate the Kaberle is he going or not joke every deadline. It's so F'ing annoying! Clearly no one wants to pay Burke his asking price and Kaberle is clearly worth more as anything other than a Leaf... sad but very true and it's all Burke's fault for publicly saying Kaberle isn't his type of Dman! Dumb!

Rogers will have ownership of the Leafs by 2012
If SexyNadya's right about Rogers ownership, I'll welcome that change.

Kaberle WILL be dealt before the deadline..... and rightfully so... he could always be resigned next year if he is willing to take a hometown discount. When did Burke ever say one bad word about kaberle???? he has always said nothing but great things about him, if your referirng to what the "media" has implied, well...lol...... thats the media... Burke has said what he likes in a dman, but never ever said a bad thing directly about Kabby.
