I noticed in another hockey thread that some deluded leafs supporter (sorry for the unnecessary word "deluded" - if he's a freakin leafs supporter he's obviously deluded!) thought it would be clever to point out to a Habs fan that the Canadiens haven't hoisted the Cup in 19 years.

Well, yeah, 19 years is a long time, so if a DETROIT fan made that statement it might make sense, but a freakin leaf fan? HA HA HA HA HA! I guess our leaf-lover skipped math class and doesn't know that 44 years is a much longer time than 19! Then again, who ever expects logic from freakin leaf fans?

PS: Further proof that he skipped math class (or maybe it was HOCKEY class!) - It's actually 18 (not 19!) years since the Habs hoisted the Cup. Of course, as the world knows, it's an amazing 44 years and counting since the freakin leafs even made it to the finals (let alone win)!!!!!

Bruins thugs back at it

Another classless night in boston, by the bruins and the fans. Nathan Horton has now joined the likes of Chara, Lucic, Thornton, Marchand, and Campbell in Thug-O-nomics 101. Then whats even worse the self proclaimed classy new england fans litter the ice when a call goes against them, lol..... Whats in the air in boston these days? Maybe the mixture of too much Beer and Fried Chicken is getting to their brains.

Bruins hammer Maple Leafs 6-2

http://msn.foxsports.com/nhl/story/Boston-Bruins-Toronto-Maple-Leafs-102011

BOSTON (AP)

The Boston Bruins took out their frustration on the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Two days after losing their composure in a loss to Carolina, the Bruins had their best offensive game of the season in a 6-2 victory Thursday night that gave the Maple Leafs their first regulation loss.

Zdeno Chara, Milan Lucic and Tyler Seguin had a goal and two assists each and the Stanley Cup champions scored two power-play goals, matching their total for their first six games.

''Obviously, we've been a little frustrated and it showed at the end of the Carolina game,'' Lucic said. ''What we've been able to do well as a team is we've always been able to turn that emotion into a positive and that's what we were able to do here tonight.''

The Bruins, who had 11 goals entering the game, rebounded from the 4-1 loss to the Hurricanes on Tuesday night. Rich Peverley's goal with 9:01 left had cut Carolina's lead to 2-1 before Boston lost its momentum by taking several ill-advised penalties.

Coach Claude Julien shook up his lines and the move paid off as the Bruins outshot the Maple Leafs 43-28.

''It was a good thing because no one really had too much chemistry,'' Seguin said. ''Tonight everyone kind of just focused on (his own) game and what they have to do in taking accountability and I think that's why we were successful.''

coninued...

Ya know Iggy, why??? Is this thread about HOCKEY...or just another tool to stir your crap?

Answer: Not satisfied with the beer and chicken crap elsewhere you have to stir it up here. So you play by the rules huh. Yeah, crap-stirrers rules. No one from the baseball thread was annoying you here, but you had to bring in crap that doesn't belong in a hockey thread here. So YOUR RULES don't include sticking to hockey. How juvenile and so pure Iggy. PRICELESS!!!

Well, send the Leafs some beer and chicken...truck loads. They need it because the biggest losers since expansion just got their wussy asses kicked all over the ice by the STANLEY CUP CHAMPION BRUINS there stirrer-boy.

and also mod8's original post,

Have fun and may the best team win the Cup!

Mod 8

They did! The Boston Bruins.

Make sure you go to the Bruins games in Toronto. If you whimper and cry as hard as you do in Merb sports threads maybe the BRUINS will let you see what their rings look like. That's as close as a Stanley Cup Champion ring will ever get to Toronto, when visiting team CHAMPIONS drop by to show Leafs LOSER fans the rings.

Now, without peeking name any Leaf who has won a championship since the NHL actually became a league. :noidea:

If anyone can explain to me why Merlot is attacking Iggy without any provocation whatsoever, please tell me. This childish & silly flaming is stupid & should cease immediately. No reason to provoke other hockey fans for no reason!

Second, all hockey facts are relevant. There was a game last night between the STANLEY CUP CHAMPION BRUINS and the 44-years loser Leafs. Your Leafs got their asses kicked last night and I am enjoying it. That's what the thread is for. Now...DEAL WITH IT!

Hmmm. I look at the standings. Toronto has 9 pts with a game over the Bruins, who have only 6 pts. Hmmm. Why does the number 86 keep popping up in my head? Wny? Why that particular number? 86. Why? Why 86?

By the way, it's now official. The boy-genious has officialy bailed out on the Red Sox. Everyone is bailing out on that loser of a team, lately.....even many of their own fan base!

Now, let's keep this thread clean of insults & enjoy this great hockey season together, shall we? Let's all try to get along.

Gee if this keeps up, there will be as much hostility here as there is in the baseball thread. (Funny - I don't think the baseball thread is SUPPOSED to be "free for all" but it has turned out that way and the sheriff seems to have left town.)

As for me, no hostility. As a Wings fan I've got NOTHING to complain about - I'm just having fun watching what's going down everywhere else.

Prediction: Lidstrom, Datsyuk, Zetterberg all in the Hall of Fame within 3 years of their retirements (okay, maybe FOUR years for Zetterberg.)

I agree. I'll go as far as to say that Lidstrom will get in easily on his first year of eligibility. What a player!

F-in' Habs

F—in’ Habs. There, I said it. It’s not like I don’t say it at least 30 times a day. The paperboy misses the porch: F—in’ Habs! The Windows and Doors people wake me up from my afternoon nap with one of their incessant calls: F—in’ Habs! I burn the noodles: F—in’ Habs! An earthquake levels Bali: F—in’ Habs! Everything that goes wrong in the world, I blame on the Montreal Canadiens. It’s convenient and it fits. I believe we would all be much happier and the world would work better and there would be no more stress or pain or misfortune if only the Habs would throw their skates into the river already. But this isn’t going to happen. I am realist and, yes, I am learning to cope.

Someone once said that great clubs need great enemies, but why it can’t be Dallas or Florida or Buffalo, I don’t know. Instead, it has to be the most arrogant and self-satisfied of all teams grinding against that which I love. It has to be the (F—in’) Habs. Argghhhh. Once more, only longer: Arghhhhhhhhh! Montrealers, Frenchmen, Québécois, the New Brunswick and Manitoban diaspora: ok. I get it. I get cheering for a team in whose loins you’ve been raised, but Anglo Habs fans who come from elsewhere are beyond comprehension. And if that elsewhere happens to be Toronto—my home and the home of the Maple Leafs—then I’d rather they don’t make any contact with me whatsoever. But this is impossible, because many of them are actually my friends. Which makes it worse. Doubly worse. Triple worse!

F—in’ Habs.

It must be said that my antipathy towards the Habs has nothing to do with Montreal itself. I love the city, although those who espouse its charms at the expense of Toronto can suck it. Toronto rules, but, true, Montreal ruled before it. And ya, okay, there’s something special about Saturday night at the Forum, except they tore down the Forum and built the Bell Centre, which is still a decent rink, if only because it’s filled with Montrealers, who bring with them the European electricity of the streets and hushed reverence for the sport and luscious cheers for their occasionally triumphant (F—in’) Habs. Just looking in from the TV—which I did on Saturday night—revealed joy and excitement before the game started: moustachioed Gallists and their pre-moustachioed sons; bundle-haired Westmount cronies in winter coats busted out for the new October cold; Jean Beliveau, Henri Richard and Yvon Lambert; and a gorgeous anthem singer trilling in two languages. Throughout all of this, players named Diaz and Cole and Moen stood along the Montreal blueline. Jacques Martin shuffled at the bench. Not two weeks into the season, the (F—in’) Habs had won one game and lost four. I giggled to myself—actually, that is a lie; I giggled loudly, for all to hear—and settled in to watch the nearly undefeated Leafs take on their historic rivals.

I am not above admitting that the game was sloppy and only found its rhythm after forty minutes of fits and starts, but it was pretty much the greatest night of my life. The greatest! Mikhail Grabovski scored the winning goal in overtime, a totally vintage Montreal-style goal. The square Belarussian whirled this way, then that way before moving the puck behind his back from out of the corner. After swishing it into the net, he was creamed by some red and blue defender not named Markov or Spacek—or even Subban, for that matter—but it didn’t make a difference. Leaf players spilled over the bench, draping their hero in cloth and leather and spit. My daughter and I shouted “Grab-bee!” “Grab-bee!” “Grab-bee” and once I’d put her to bed, I emailed all of my Habs’ friends to rub it in. Then, after the house was quiet and Mike Milbury and PJ Stock had finished talking about how great the Leafs are, I stood in the middle of the living room and said “F—in’ Habs” before going to bed. Outside, a cat mewled. Someone honked a horn. It sounded weird hearing it that way, out of joy, rather than hurt or disappointment.

I agree, and i'd like to add that the habs could badly use a hell of a lot of players right now. Leafs' Claude Loiselle was one of several NHL management/scouting types at the game last night between the Panthers & the Habs. Word is that Cody Franson is on the trading block. But is there someone out there that the habs would be willing to part with that may interest the Leafs?

I doubt we would help the Canadiens out, let them suffer! (unless it is another slam dunk of a winning trade for the good guys like Burke is used to getting since he has been gm of the Leafs)

On a very serious note, if somehow the canadiens lose tomorrow night, , thursday in boston and saturday again against the bruins, it might not be safe for the downtown shops, i know habs fans are backwards and usually only riot when they win a playoff game, but i feel the tide is a turning with each loss. Gainey will be back behind the bench if martin is fired soon.

Since this post is not about the Leafs, i did not want to respond in the Leaf haters thread, so try to behave rumples if you so choose to respond and not hide like a wounded dog.

Let me guess rumples, from you posting in the Leafs haters thread, does this mean you finally bought a hockey publication, read it, and are now an expert on Hockey and dare i say it, A FAN?? (more like a nightmare to the sport) haha!

Your team would be whom? Lemme guess...... all things boston right? Would be fitting since you can only support a team thats either won in the last few seasons or is close... are you NOT the guy who once liked the brooklyn dodgers then swithched to the red sox when they were decent in the 80's?

Maybe you like the Canucks? and yes, that is not just a word that means Canadians, it really is a hockey team rumples, and they play in Vancouver, they really really do. Or how about the Blackhawks? Yes, named after indians but no rumps, they do not play in Cleveland, but Chicago, and the arena is not named the First United TeePee Center, Blackhawk is just a name. The Montreal Canadiens (yes rumpie, that is the correct spelling) are not just made up of Canadian players nor is that a rule they must be, although for some stupid reason they have a self imposed rule that the gm and coach MUST speak french. (lets hope that continues forever!) ... here is a good one for ya, The New Jersey Devils.... no no rumples, that does not mean satan hangs out in Newark, then again, have you ever been to Newark? hmmmmmmmm , they may be onto something there. I could do this all day but just one more, as i have a HOCKEY game to watch... the Dallas Stars.... No no rumps, it does not mean that some of Eleganza's finest, nor Asservissante's, nor Gof, Chloes, Angels, or even Our Affairs finest work there... simply the "Stars" came from the expansion Minnesota North Stars and Dallas simply kept the name because it was fitting, namely after the famous Texas Lone Star, get it? See how much you have learnt already in a few minutes???

Can you please explain what an offside is? or how about icing? (and rumps, even you im sure can google, so dont bother, its ok, we understand) :D

Do you know about the Summit Series? Or how about the Miracle on Ice?... no no rumps, there was not a SP from Russia using a ice rink for incalls.........

If your now a hockey fan, i say welcome aboard, but be a real fan and love the game for what it is and not just post to bash. Pick a team and tell us why you love them. Tell us about your favorite players on that team and when you plan to attend your first game, btw the Mtl Juniors moved this year so if you wanna see what Quebec hockey is all about (forget about going to Le Centre Bell, nothing good about Hockey there these days) you will have to travel to Boisbriand. Better yet, travel up to Quebec City and check out a Remparts game and see why some 10,000-12,000 fans show up nightly to see teenagers play the game they so love. Maybe you can get Patrick Roy's autograph and tell him your now a hockey fan... btw, ROY is not pronounced how you would pronounce it rumpie, again, google! :thumb:

A careful look at the standing show that their win-loss record is a)misleading, a mirage and is b) unsustainable. For one, the Leafs lead the Conference in goals allowed. For two, the only teams in the conference with worse goal differentials are the Islanders, Ottawa, Carolina and Winnipeg. What this means is that the Leafs have been playing in serious good luck. Unfortunately for them, luck catches up with you and it appears that the Leafs are well on their way to a 10th place finish, which would, however, give them a better than average finish...for them. It also does suggest that they are better than even money to make the playoffs before the decade is out. I'm also going to go out on a limb an predict a Stanley Cup for the Leafs before the end of the century.

So according to our newest hockey expert, "4 skin" the Leafs should of lost last night because the statistics show they were outshot, thus outplayed, right? WRONG! Stats do not always tell the WHOLE story rumpie.... the bruins won the cup last year not because they statistically had the best team hands down, in all facets of the game, but because they had Timmy Thomas in goal playing lights out for most every game he was in. And last night, the Leafs had the best goalie on the ice, plain and simple.

But here is a stat for ya, Ben Scrivens stopped 38 of 40 shots for a save % of .950 (btw, mr skin, anything over .900 is good, .950 is down right FILTHY!) and 3 of 3 in the shootout. In other words, a goalie who is on fire can change the stats of overall team play dramatically, therefore, stats sometimes do lie.

If the rest of the team hadn't sucked big time Scrivens wouldn't have had to be good. If the Leafs are counting on Scrivens as their savior they are in deep deep shit since Scrivens is NOT Mr. Consistency. Yeah he was good when his hopeless team was outshot by a 2-1 margin but he was wretched in the couple of games before that. When you're pulled for the Monstrosity (!!!) you KNOW you suck!
