Palin pressure forces 'retarded' apology

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama’s tart-tongued chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, has apologized for using the word “retarded“ to describe liberal activists whose tactics on health care he questioned.

Emanuel made the apology last week in a phone call to Tim Shriver, CEO of the Special Olympics, the White House said Tuesday.

The apology followed a Wall Street Journal account of a private White House meeting involving liberal groups and administration officials. In it, Emanuel reportedly grew exasperated at plans by some groups to run ads against Democratic lawmakers who were balking at Obama’s health overhaul.

“The White House remains committed to addressing the concerns and needs of Americans living with disabilities and recognizes that derogatory remarks demean us all,” a White House statement said.

Emanuel’s call wasn’t the first time Shriver got an Obama administration apology. The president himself telephoned in March after telling Jay Leno on the “Tonight Show” how awful his bowling scores were. “It was like the Special Olympics or something,” Obama said.

In a posting on her Facebook page Monday, former GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin called on Obama to fire Emanuel. Palin, whose son Trig suffers from Down syndrome, said Emanuel’s language was “heartbreaking” and a “slur on all God’s children.”

I usually stay out of political discussions on MERB, but I have to ask a question...

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel refers to Liberal Groups as retarded, and apologizes... President Obama uses the word retarded, referring to himself, and apologizes... and somehow Sarah Palin is to blame?

Sheesh!

Where does Sarah Palin get off complaining about anything? She had a Down Syndrome baby and decided to name him Trig. Like that's going to make his life any easier. What did she name him after? Roy Rogers' horse, Trigger? Talk about slurs. Thankfully, she won't be having any more children to give her special names to. Seriously...she has sons named Trig and Track, and daughters named Bristol (after a bay in Alaska - good thing whe wasn't from Quebec or she'd have named the kid Hudson)), Willow (after the lesbian witch on Buffy the Vampire Slayer?) and Piper (another television witch?). And I have a feeling she had a hand in the naming of her grandson, Tripp. Probably owns a power bar from Tripp Lite and thought the name was cool.

The woman is deranged.

Don't bet on it. Nothing surprises me about this witch anymore!

p.s. I agree that she's a deranged woman, but not as deranged as the people who think she'd make a good President.

mb,

I got to agree with you on this. She really looks like she'd be a lot of fun in the sack. Nothing to do with politics, but I'd definately call her a MILF and go the full $180 per hour on her.

Well boys,

I'd much rather do Tina Fey impersonating Palin. Tina's much younger, prettier, sexier, has a better body, and considering Palin's debate and interview performances I could avoid all the inevitable fake responses and distraction of hearing all the loose marbles rattling around in her head.

As for this thread, Voyager is right about going overboard on criticizing her on this. She's just trying to act like she's still a political player instead of finished news. Who cares what she says...unless it's "what position do you want me in"...lol. :D

Cheers,

Merlot

Next someone will say Tina Fey is a SP in Montreal and is giving Special rates.

You guys really know how to get off of the subject.

I personally don't think what Palin was complaining about was worth the media attention. It was her stupid Facebook page.

What Rahm Emmanuel said was stupid and crude, but what else is new. He is a politician.

This whole thing gives light to the politically correct crap era that we live in. The feminists are now upset about the I-PAD. Give me a break. I-PAD = Maxi-Pad. What a bunch of retards.

The last time I looked retarded was a word in the dictionary. Fucking was a curse word. So what. There are people who are geniuses. There are people who are slow. Most of us are in the middle. That's the way the world is. It doesn't mean the least bright is any less worthy than the brightest in the eyes of the Lord. We all deal with what we got.

Getting back to Sarah Palin. She did not say what she said in an interview. She said it in a Facebook page. I have to put that in context. What Rahm Emmanuel said was not worth apologizing over and over and over. He said what he said and move on.

I've noticed the scar a few years back before she got really popular, she explains how she got it in this article and to be honest, I find it f'n sexy, maybe I'm in the minority, but to me it makes her even more desirable.

Ya know Doc, she doesn't strike me as too bright but why the hell did McCain choose her as a running mate in the first place?

I'm surprised no one mentioned Rush Limbaugh's and Sarah Palin's dust up over this.

Sarah Palin assails Obama at 'tea party' gathering

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Sarah Palin, in a speech that was short on ideas but big on enthusiasm, took aim at President Barack Obama and the Democrats, telling a gathering of "tea party" activists that America is ripe for another revolution.

Noting his party's dismal showing in elections since Obama moved into the White House a year ago with talk of hope and promises of change, Palin asked the gathering: "How's that hope-y, change-y stuff workin' out for you?"

Her audience waved flags and erupted in cheers during multiple standing ovations as the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee gave the keynote address Saturday at the first national convention of the "tea party" coalition. It's an antiestablishment, grass-roots network motivated by anger over the growth of government, budget-busting spending and Obama's policies.

Palin's 45-minute talk was filled with her trademark folksy jokes and amounted to a pep talk for the coalition and promotion of its principles.

The speech also was rife with criticism for Obama and the Democrats who control Congress, but delivered with a light touch. Aside from broad conservative principles like lower taxes and a strong national defense, the speech was short on Palin's own policy ideas that typically indicate someone is seriously laying the groundwork to run for the White House.

Indeed, Republican observers say she's seemingly done more lately to establish herself as a political celebrity focused on publicity rather than a political candidate focused on policy.

Catering to her crowd, Palin talked of limited government, strict adherence to the Constitution, and the "God-given right" of freedom. She said the "fresh, young and fragile" movement is the future of American politics because it's "a ground-up call to action" to both major political parties to change how they do business.

"America is ready for another revolution!" she told the gathering.

Palin suggested the movement should remain leaderless and cautioned against allowing it to be defined by any one person.

"Let us not get bogged down in the small squabbles. Let us get caught up in the big ideas," she said, though she offered few of her own.

The former Alaska governor, who resigned from office last summer before completing her first term, didn't indicate whether her political future would extend beyond cable news punditry and paid speeches to an actual presidential candidacy.

All she offered was a smile when a moderator asking her questions used the phrase "President Palin." That prompted most in the audience to stand up and chant "Run, Sarah, Run!"

But, given the plethora of attacks that Palin leveled at Obama, she seemed like she was already running against him. And, perhaps, as an independent.

She talked little about the Republican Party and encouraged "tea party"-aligned candidates to compete in GOP primaries.

Palin ribbed Obama for Democratic losses in New Jersey and Virginia governor's races last fall and in a Massachusetts Senate race last month, saying: "When you're 0-3 you'd better stop lecturing and start listening."

On foreign policy and national security, Palin said he had "misguided thinking" and a pre-Sept. 11 mindset.

Her fee was $100,000 for the appearance at the for-profit event.
