Stephen Colbert: "Sarah Palin is a fucking retard!"

Hillarious stuff!

Colbert says Sarah Palin is a fucking retard

Here's why:

Colbert: ‘Sarah Palin is a f**king retard’

Stephen Colbert has fine words for former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who defended Rush Limbaugh's use of the word "retard" this weekend after attacking an Obama aide for the same offense.

"Sarah Palin knows that it's okay to call someone a retard if like rush you clearly don't mean it which is why we should all come to her defense and say: Sarah Palin is a fucking retard," Colbert quipped.

Palin's son, Trig, has Down Syndrome. She had criticized Obama chief of staff Rahm Emanuel for telling liberal activists that a political strategy was "fucking retarded" during a private meeting in the White House.

But when Rush Limbaugh used the same word, Palin declared that his usage was acceptable because it was satire.

On his radio show, Limbaugh said: "Our political correct society is acting like some giant insult’s taken place by calling a bunch of people who are retards, retards. I mean these people, these liberal activists are kooks. They are looney tunes. And I’m not going to apologize for it, I’m just quoting Emanuel. It’s in the news. I think their big news is he’s out there calling Obama’s number one supporters f’ing retards. So now there’s going to be a meeting. There’s going to be a retard summit at the White House."

Cheat notes underline key Palin weakness

It was the kind of moment that makes liberals delight in Sarah Palin - while at the same time prompting supporters to applaud her "just folks" style.

After joking that U.S. President Barack Obama was little more than a "charismatic guy with a teleprompter" at last weekend's Tea Party convention, she was caught on camera peeking at crib notes scrawled on the palm of her hand. The video went viral as critics cited them as evidence that the GOP's 2008 vice-presidential nominee is unprepared for a 2012 White House bid.

The scribbled words - energy, tax cuts and "lift America's spirits" - certainly distilled her message, although pundits expressed disbelief that she would need to remind herself to mention tax cuts, a basic conservative talking point.

"The takeaway is that this presidential contender apparently can't remember her supposed core principles and needs a cheat sheet when simply asked about her beliefs. To quote Charlie Brown: Good grief," blogger Stefan Sirucek wrote on the Huffington Post.

"You listen to her long enough and actually feel yourself getting dimmer by the minute, like a dying light bulb," columnist Mike Lupica wrote in the New York Daily News.

"If her vision and grasp of even the most basic issues - with or without crib notes - were any lighter, you would have to tie a rock to her to keep her from floating away."

But U.S. political analysts, though frequently in disagreement over both Palin's political ambitions and talent, say her fiercest critics are missing the greater significance of her weekend declaration that she won't rule out running against Obama.

The chants of "run, Sarah, run" that echoed through the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville reinforced her standing as the most prominent champion of the anti-Obama, anti-establishment activists driving the Tea Party movement, Southern Methodist University political scientist Cal Jillson says.

But Palin's other weekend appearance, at a Sunday campaign rally in Houston for Texas governor Rick Perry, underscored her star appeal with more traditional Republicans, Jillson said.

Palin's attendance at the event was enough to fill an 8,000-seat stadium, the kind of drawing power other potential GOP presidential candidates can only dream of having.

"No regular-type politician holds stadium events because they know the stadium would be empty," Jillson said.

Critics say Palin's chief weakness - her political Achilles heel - remains policy. That's why so much attention is being lavished on her crib notes moment.

But Palin herself seems to recognize the shortcoming, telling Fox News she "sure as heck better be more astute on these current events, national issues" than she was in 2008.

Palin has begun receiving daily email or phone briefings on domestic and foreign policy from a handful of advisers, the New York Times reported.

Palin, for her part, injected some humour into the debate.

At the rally in Texas, she flashed a message for all the cameras to catch: "Hi Mom."

Sarah Palin for President

by Dave Hackel (The Huffington Post)

I think "Palin For President" has a nice ring to it. And I've got a lot of reasons.

Sarah Palin should be our next president because:

- She's completely selfless. She's willing to become our next chief executive so that Bush won't go down in history as the least informed and vapid president we've ever had.

- She refers to her supporters as "real Americans." And since most of us think of ourselves as real Americans, she must be talking about us. That means she's one of us. And I know that we're certainly all qualified to be the leader of the free world.

- She understands that details upset real Americans so she's forced herself to only speak in headlines. Hearing her talk is like walking by a news stand -- you get the broad generalities but aren't bothered by any pesky details.

- She knows that using a teleprompter is cheating, but that reading from a written text... or her hand... is perfectly acceptable.

- She must be really great, otherwise why would Fox News carry wall-to-wall coverage of every single word she says?

- She's a quick learner. All it took was one bad experience with Katie Couric and now she knows never to go into any sort of interview without knowing the questions in advance.

- She's earned the praise of really smart people like Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly and Roger Ailes. And none of them would ever steer us wrong.

- She made the decision to carry her five children to term and learned so much from that experience that she thinks it should be illegal for any woman to ever have to wrestle with that decision again. Like I said -- selfless.

- She can manipulate the press -- how else was she able to get Chris Wallace to bring up William Ayers so that we wouldn't forget about President Obama "pallin around with terrorists."

- She understands the principles of capitalism. She proved this by starting a small business called "Sarah Palin" which went from earning $125,000 per year as Governor of Alaska to bringing in over $100,000 per night as a public speaker.

- She's already mastered the fine art of ignoring any past comments, deeds, actions or video that she'd like us to forget.

- She understands that yelling "Fire!" in a crowded theater is at least slightly more dangerous than yelling "Socialist" at a Tea Party meeting. But only slightly.

- She'd have Todd, the "First Dude," right there by her side helping her make hard decisions about things like judicial appointments and government contracts. Can you imagine all the time she'll save?

- She knows that we like our politicians to be well tanned so she was smart enough to get the good people of Alaska to buy her a tanning bed so she'd look as much like John Boehner as possible.

- She knows that real Americans like war so she thinks we should go for the hat trick and invade Iran.

- She's an innovative and original thinker. Who else but Sarah would have thought to name her sons Trig and Track?

- She was considerate enough to quit her job as governor of Alaska because, as she explained to Chris Wallace, defending herself against lawsuits was taking too much of the people's time.

- She has no grasp of issues nor any ideas of her own, so we'd be getting Rush Limbaugh's wisdom in a much more attractive package.

And last but not least --

- She's completely free of demons. I know because I saw her exorcism on YouTube.

As far as I can tell, if she's serious about a run for the White House, there's only one thing that can stand in her way -- that there are enough sane people in this country who realize that this embarrassing woman's presence on our national political scene is a dangerous threat to the foundation of this great republic.

Palin: God writes notes on his hand too

Countless bloggers, comedians and opposing politicians have ribbed Sarah Palin about writing notes on her hand. But it's OK, she said, because God gets it * He does it, too.

Speaking to a crowd of supporters in Ohio over the weekend about her hand notes that were discovered during a speech to the U.S. Tea Party convention last month, Palin referred to a Bible verse a supporter had sent her.

Isaiah 49:16 reads: "See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me."

"Hey, if it was good enough for God, scribbling on the palm of his hand, it's good enough for me, for us," she said to the audience of a pro-life fundraiser. "In that passage he says, 'I wrote your name on the palm of my hand to remember you.' And I'm like, 'OK, I'm in good company.'"

Palin, who was the Republican vice-presidential candidate in the last U.S. election, had previously ridiculed President Barack Obama for relying on his teleprompter during speeches.

Doc,

I disagree with your premise. Just because this lady wrote a few words on her hands does not compare to Obama having to look at a teleprompter.

Have you not given speeches? Do you not have a 3 x 5 card to keep yourself on track? Many speakers do this. So why are you making fun of this woman for reading off her hand?

Reading word for word from a teleprompter is totally different. It means that Obama can't remember anything he is expected to say, or even worse, he never has prepped himself and is reading a prepared speech, which he may have had no input into.

DD41,

Dude, your not serious... are you? Really?

That would be like one of the beloved Sp's writing "suck the penis" on her hand and looking at it while you are fondling.

Please do not compare the two... one is a top 10 ivy school grad and is probably the most talented speech writer/orator in our lifetime (both quite well documented).

The other... not quite at high school level of intelligence and cannot form a cohesive thought stream.

You got to be kidding me. You say that Obuma is one of the greatest speech writers? (sorry to disappoint you, he does not write his own speeches and they are so full of lies). And greatest orators, yeah, really, he can read from a teleprompter .... hahaha.

George Bush graduated from Yale, MBA. Yale is an Ivy League school. Sorry to disappoint you.

Sarah Palin graduated from University of Idaho. Where did you graduate from? I went to a state university, and so did many other Americans. Are you an elitist?

Sarah Palin defends the Constitution of the United States, which Barack Obama trashes our Constitution. Sorry, don't argue with this American about who is better for the US - Palin or Obama.

Palin wins hands down, because Obama is turning the US into a Socialist state. And if you are a Canadian, butt out of our affairs. Your opinion does not count, just like my opinion on Canadian affairs does not count in Canada.

Quite the contrary, Doc.

I believe, you as a Canadian, have the right to have input into your own country's governmental system, while I should not have a say because I am not a citizen. I do not have to live there.

While as for the US, this is my country. I have to live under whatever governmental policy that reigns, and I personally am scared to death under the present Administration. Our deficit is getting out of control and all Obama is doing is adding to it. Our financial system is in far more serious trouble than yours at the moment. And since the US is your best customer, I think you should be concerned also.

The majority of Americans are against the changes that the Obama Administration are proposing. It will radically change the way we live. And the legislation regarding the health care bill is all over the place. It will add confusion, cause medical doctors to retire. From my understanding, the number one problem in Canada with your health care system is the lack of medical personnel. The US is running a shortage also, and if government legislation and policy makes it even more difficult to operate, older doctors will quit and younger people will reconsider becoming physicians. The pressent proposed legislation is 2,300 pages and nobody understands what is in it, especially the people that voted for it.

It is not unprovoked hostility. Most people in the US agree with Sarah Palin's assessment of the healthcare debate going on here. Alot of Americans are worried. And yes, I do not value your opinion of my country's situation, because you have your own country. Canada is more your business. The US is mine. I have no hostility towards Canada. You are allies. But I see my liberties eroding and in danger. I don't want a bureaucrat telling me what doctor to choose or what hospital to go to, or when I am older that I cannot have the care that I need, which I fear will happen under the socialist democrats.

But you live in Canada at the moment. Your location says Canada. By choice, you can live in the US or Canada. It is your choice. Lucky you. I pass thru the Border patrol into Canada with my US passport only. I care more about what happens in the US than you, because this is the only choice of residence I have unless I try to immigrate to another country, which will take time and money.

DD,

Dude, put down the 'shine and gun and chill. In fact you are on my countries board, so in accordance with all things Canadian, you should at the very least be polite. I'm not butting in to your politics, merely offering some (humorous) commentary on a very humorous public figure.

You, on the other hand... no so humorous. Try enjoying your fortunate position and adversaries instead of trying to intimidate people (by typing about a community college no less) ... you should find that it will be more gratifying.

As to my commenting on who is better for your country, you are, both domestically and internationally in a minority with your opinion. And that is fine, you are of course free to think as you will, as are the rest of the people on the planet.

Your country's board? Canada does not own MERB. At least I don't think Canada does.

Intimidate people? I don't get that one. I am stating the facts. You are not. The majority of the people of the US agree with Sarah Palin about health care, not Barak Obama. Consult any major poll. Sorry, your statements are not facts.

And what community college are you referring to?

Maybe I read the last few posts too quickly but...

isn't the point is that this lady cites God's writing on hands as authority that it's OK?

Personally I don't see anything wrong with her having some prompts written on her hand.

Here's an article from the Globe yesterday:

Sarah Palin has been shopping a reality show around the U.S. networks.

Where do I start? Oh, this is good. It is further evidence that Palin is a creature of the reality-TV culture. And that fame-addiction is the great motivator of our times. The controlling impulse. The centre of the culture. Being famous is totally great, you see. There’s free stuff, Facebook fans, a limo to take you to the party. There’s no life like it.

You don’t think Sarah Palin and her brood with daytime soap-opera names – Track, Willow, Bristol, Piper and Trig – are interested in swag bags and gifties? You think they’re not just like those C-list stars who adore the gifts they get just for showing up?

Well, according to the Los Angeles Times, while Palin and her posse were in L.A. last week for The Tonight Show and meetings about that proposed reality show (she has reality-TV king Mark Burnett on-board for it), they also stormed the Oscar “gifting suite.” And got their free watches, sheets, bathrobes, cosmetics and stuff. According to the L.A. Times, "Palin's middle child, Willow, got her hair styled, receiving a blowout from Erick Orellana of the Chris McMillan Salon (Jennifer Aniston's long-time hairstylist)." The Times pointed out that Palin, like all the Oscar celebs, was supposed to donate $1,700, along with all of her gift items, to the American Red Cross, to help fund relief efforts in Haiti and Chile.

According to some accounts, Palin did indeed write a cheque for $1,700. Mind you, E! Online reports, "We can assure you, she did not give up any of her swag." The site quotes a witness who claims that “upwards of 20 people from the Palin camp swarmed the event. They were like locusts." Do the math: Does 20 people feeding on free stuff amount to $1,700? Never mind the Tea Party movement. This is the swag-party movement in action.

It matters little in the long term. The important thing is that Palin sees a reality-TV series in her future. The fascinating thing is that Palin has been in a reality-TV series since August, 2008, when she was plucked from obscurity to be John McCain’s running mate in the U.S. presidential election.

Palin was put on the ticket to inject vitality, appeal to women and, most important, represent authenticity – just as truck drivers, hairdressers, janitors and cocktail waitresses represent compelling authenticity on The Bachelor, Survivor or Jersey Shore. The Republican Party was buying into the marketing strategy used by TV networks and Palin took to her role like the fame-addicted critter she is.

Fame of the kind achieved by Palin and many reality-TV figures is a narcotic. You just have to be yourself. The more ordinary, unthinking and unsophisticated you are, the better. And people give you stuff. They provide a limo to take you the TV studio, give you free stuff while you’re there and, if you’ve got enough juice going with your fame, you can bring your posse with you. You get paid for turning up, get gifts and everybody wants to take your picture. Beats working. It sure beats trying to run a small but complicated state, a job Palin relinquished so she could travel, make speeches for a large fee, appear on Fox News to offer her opinions, josh with Jay Leno and, over the past weekend, appear in Calgary to make a speech sponsored by those nice people, the Fraser Institute. And presumably get the free stuff that comes with the gig.

According to Entertainment Weekly, which broke the story about Palin and Burnett’s network meetings, what’s being pitched is "a TV docudrama about Alaska.” One source called it a ‘Planet Earth-type look' at Palin’s home state." That sounds a tad dreary, but you can bet that Palin would have specific involvement. Why? Because this woman needs to be in showbiz. NBC might be a good bet: They’re so desperate they’re airing The Marriage Ref, one of the dumbest shows in history.

The real irony in all of this is that it causes us to consider what “reality TV” means. Certainly, it doesn’t mean much reality. It means putting people with attitude on TV and heightening everything about them. It means manipulating strong personalities to make them appear more real than fictional characters. Sarah Palin disappeared into that world more than two years ago. She doesn’t want to give it up. It comes with perks. She never has to shop again. Right now Palin would attend the opening of a car door, if there were TV cameras present and a gift bag to take away. She’s addicted.

IMO, Canadians are free to comment on US politics.

Check out Chrystia Freeland, Canadian journalist for the Financial Times. Saw her on the McLaughlin Group. She looked pretty hot.

And of course, the Canadian government has successfully gotten Obama's "Buy American" initiative to include Canadian companies.

As for the US, they're in everyone's business. Right now, the Obama administration is trying to get Israel to agree to a compromise regarding settlement development. Not to mention Iraq and Afghanistan, and who-knows-where-else the CIA has turned into a puppet.

Most Americans don't think much of Canada, except for a convenient occasional vacation, and even then, they probably find it too similar to the States. So either they stay in the US, or go somewhere truly different (i.e. in Europe, Asia, Africa, etc.).

If anything, the US PETA protesters are involved in Canadian politics, and that's probably not good.
