I agree that they'll very likely lose the House but i believe the spineless Republicans will hold on to the Senate. And yes they'll blame Trump but to be honest they're already starting to do so when the cameras aren't rolling.
Actually, Doc, despite the Dems having the defend 10 very difficult seats, there's a half decent chance of taking the Senate. Trump's unpopularity could help them hold those seats, plus there could be two, not just one, open seat in Arizona if McCain resigns or dies. Beto O'Rourke is raking in the money and is a very attractive candidate taking a shot at Ted Cruz. And Phil Bredesen could just win in Tennessee.

Michael Cohen's 3rd client....this keeps getting better and better.

I have come to the conclusion that it’s all become a reality TV show and form of entertainment. There isn’t a single major US news outlet that reports without some agenda. All I can pay attention to is BBC and even they, while reporting with less of an agenda than US news agencies, does so with a sense of amusement and without seriousness. The fact that many people feast on this nonstop news cycle as a form of entertainment should be at least mildly disturbing.

Regarding Michael Cohen, what I have read about him suggests he is not a serious practitioner of the law. I consider the Jimmy MCGill character on Better Call Saul a more serious practitioner of the law and a superior source of entertainment. I actually know some attorneys who practice law similarly to the McGill character albeit without the many endearing qualities of MCGill. The Courtroom scenes in that show are actually quite authentic. I have observed disciplinary hearings of other attorneys and they are done exactly as portrayed in that TV show.

We got lawyers, porn stars, extramarital affairs, hush money, politicians, and now a TV celebrity. Cohen is an acceptable substitute of Better Call Saul until the next season.

Except that Michael Cohen isn't really a lawyer. People referring to him as Trump's consiglieri is an insult to all mob lawyers. Cohen's role in Trump's life has been pretty much only as a fixer and goon. He has three clients: Trump, that GOP big money guy who impregnated the Playboy bunny and Shady Sean Hannity. You kind of wonder why Hannity would want Cohen's advice unless he has some sex scandal to cover up.

Michael Cohen we are now learning has been Trump's link to Russian & Ukrainian money. Dirty money. Cohen's father-in-law is an Ukrainian immigrant who was once convicted of money-laundering and also made it big in the NYC taxi business. That's how Cohen ended up owning about 50 NYC yellow taxi cabs and always surrounded himself with shady characters from various mob organizations.

Cohen likely faces many years in prison and one of Trump's former lawyers told him recently not to trust Cohen since he's likely to turn on him in order to end up with a reduced prison sentence. He also implied to Trump that Cohen may very likely be already cooperating with the feds and possibly wearing a wire. Guess who Trump called last friday? Cohen. You can't make this shit up!

Trump Hires Giuliani

According to this, since John Dowd quit, 5 large law firms have passed on representing Trump. It's not a money issue, it's that he is reportedly a very difficult client. Most attorneys do not want to be hired to be "Yes Men" (or "Yes Women"):

https://www.cnn.com/2018/04/19/politics/giuliani-trump-legal-team/index.html

I think Giuliani is just looking for a way to keep himself in the spotlight to set up another Presidential or perhaps Senatorial run.

I agree. But i also believe that the fact Trump has a reputation of stiffing his past lawyers (and a whole lot of other people) is also part of it.

As for Giuliani he's as dirty as Trump (and Cohen) so i'm not sure it's that good of a thing for him to join Trump's legal team. Giuliani will also be called on as a witness by Mueller in the Russian investigation and will be asked about who tipped him (from the FBI) about Comey's upcoming announcement in regards to the re-opening of the investigation of HRC's stupid emails.

I've been looking at various video clips from the crossdresser former mayor of NYC and they're hillarious!! I've never seen a guy who enjoys himself the most dressed up as a woman!

Speaking of Giuliani i remember reading about a rumour over a dozen years ago or so that he was having an affair with a high-end Toronto escort. I've always wondered if it was true.

Giuliani has had many women in his life and asking if he ever saw or had affairs with escorts is like asking if a bear shits in the woods. I also recall him being very muted when Elliot Spitzer was outed and my guess is if Elliot Spitzer was “client number 9” Giuliani was probably client number 10. There are very few politicians who don’t have mistresses or steady high end escorts, it goes with the turf.

or not. You wanna bet....I`ll give you 50 to 1 odds.

The Republicans are going to lose big in the mid-terms and many will blame Trump.

The media will blame Trump. We know that losing many House seats in the mid-terms is historically likely. Voters are fickle they want increased govt. expenditures, lower taxes, many want government fixes to everything as long as it doesn't disturb them or their business and on top of that more jobs. Oh, add make the World safe with love and kindness until you have to threaten rogue regimes and sling a few missiles. Did I miss anything?

It's not easy to change your house or your spouse every two years, but you can change your vote and believe your life is going to be materially better. Then you can do it all over again. Come November, the Republicans will lose seats and his detractors will make it all his fault.

Doc, I don't think your looking at Trump objectively. He didn't win in 2016 because he was popular. He won because he was saying things that no other candidates in either party were saying. If the Dems had put up Biden, they probably would have won. Biden is a smart, intuitive politician. He probably could've easily mimicked some of Trump's rhetoric to win more blue collar votes. The people lining up to run on the Democratic side could do well in the primaries, but fall flat with the general public. Elections are always about two candidates with flaws. The Press tries to present a monolithic Liberal Democratic California leading a Liberal wave and their is plenty of resistance. Just not the kind you're talking about.

Everything you say is true. Hillary was a gift to Trump. She is so reflexively loathed by many. She only has herself to blame for some of it e.g lying that you were under sniper fire when you actually calmly walked across the tarmac. But the hate isn't proportional to her sins. Biden would have won. The death of his son altered several trajectories. Candidates do have flaws but it's hard for anyone that can consider two disparate thoughts simultaneously to say that Trump was the lesser flawed candidate, even if he was saying things politicians don't usually say. (We'll put aside the part where he was saying things just to win).

So what we have here, at the risk of being called "elitist" are a lot of dumb people in the US, Republicans and Democrats. (People that voted for Obama not for qualifications but because he was black = dumb). Yesterday, Washington Post ran an article about Trump voters in the Midwest. One guy said the Russia investigation was Democrats playing sour grapes because they lost in 2016. This despite the fact that the Special Counsel investigation was started because a Republican (Rosenstein) appointed a life-long Republican (Mueller) because the life-long Republican head of the FBI was fired, to mention nothing of the fact that the Senate & House also had Russia investigations.

Yes, the hatred of Hillary isn't proportional to her sins. The problem she is not a natural politician. She always seemed uncomfortable and it always seemed like she thought it should be a coronation. Apparently, so did the DNC and the liberal media. Much has been written and criticized about our long campaign cycle, but it has been said that it rewards candidates who organize, manage, market and adapt under extreme pressure. I don't think Trump was a great organizer, but he knew how to market and adapt to the audience. It was kind of a guerilla campaign that Republican primary candidates didn't see coming and adapted to anemically. Hillary was also a terrible manager. She should never be forgiven for essentially ignoring the Rust Belt. (Perhaps the Rust Belt voters are the stupid people in the U.S. that you are referencing.) Bill Clinton warned her handlers that this was a mistake.

Your comment on the Mueller probe is vexing. It has become a very divisive issue. If Mueller comes up with something substantial related to Russian collusion, most of the country will unite behind the consequences for Trump. You will find most of the news chatter here about Mueller pursuing obstruction, Stormy Daniels and unrelated business dealings is very divisive. Even if Mueller and Rosenstein are Republicans, Trump is loathed by many inside the beltway Republicans.

Perhaps I should've said elections are always about two candidates with flaws and......flaws are measured subjectively. You can't simply tally flaws and score the candidates. You can't say that people are stupid if they voted for the candidate with 9 flaws versus the candidate with 5 flaws.

Isn't Trump vs. Hillary the sort of contest that inspires the phrase "the lesser of two evils?" I'm saying pick the one with 5 flaws. The only reason Hillary looked like a "good" choice even to a leftie such as myself is because she was going up against an altogether fundamentally flawed candidate in Donald Trump. Even if Hillary won, I honestly think she would have been the first one-term President since George HW. But she didn't win, for reasons you expertly outline among others: she neglected the Rust Belt. Even though she won the Democratic primary fair and square, I also agree with you that her candidacy was treated as a rite of passage rather than something she actually earned.

But I'm not kidding about the general ignorance of Americans. A few years ago, some paper ran a piece to the effect of only 1 in 8 Americans can name at least one Supreme Court Justice. Sadly, those peoples' votes, if they vote, count just like the guy's in the WaPo article who wasn't abreast of the news so he interpreted the Russian investigation as Democrats solely trying to undo Trump's presidency.

Well here we pick someone who has nice hair and socks and that someone wants to allow refugees to vote early so they can feel more Canadian. We trump the Americans.

While I think Canadians are more engaged with their political process than Americans, I am always amused with Canadians effort to smooth over controversial issues. Americans seem to be more confrontational in their politics and this was long before Trump.

Canada has an excellent immigration system and ours is sheer chaos. Why would you wish that on us? Republicans who try to fix our immigration system are labeled racists by a self-serving opposition. So why would you even try to appease these liberal people?

STN I have an idea for you. Propose to Trudeau to actually hire Air Canada to pick up immigrants in their own country. To go and pick them up where they are in africa, middle east whatever and bring them here... For free... Only caveat bring the plane back to Whitehorse in January and say Welcome to Canada ;)

First, WaPo seriously? They have been at war with Trump.
Second, oh yeah, we have a justice system. No one has a right to presume guilt when judging someone who presumes innocence.
Lastly, several FBI and Justice Dept. officials have been been demoted or pushed out over aggressive tactics associated with investigating the Trump campaign. No one in the Trump campaign has been charged with collusion with the Russians. This kind of mostly makes the WaPo article a biased effort to de-legitimize Trump voters.
