Venezuela seized the assets of Chevron (among other oil companies) and never paid compensation. The kidnapping of Maduro and the plans to control his country are payback to the American oil companies which heavily supported Trump in the 2024 election.

It should be noted that Trump has said he expects Chevron and other oil companies to spend lots of money for needed upgrades in the oil infrastructure, in exchange for getting their assets back. As I said earlier, Venezuela's oil production is meager. What nobody seems to get is that while Maduro was getting rich on bribes from drug traffickers, the Venezuelan citizens were impoverished while sitting on huge oil reserves THAT WERE NOT BEING HARVESTED AND REFINED. This is the greatest dissipation and waste of energy assets possibly ever seen in world history. The situation had to be changed, and it was changed. It couldn't be allowed to continue.

It was bloodless on the U.S. side, and no helicopters were lost. The Cubans apparently were armed combatants who got in the way of the Delta Forces.

She is a Marxist-Socialist whose views mirror those of many of the posters in this thread. However, the Trump Administration decided they can work with her, and have now brought her in line. In particular, she reportedly has a high level of competence in the sphere of Venezuelan politics and in the sphere of the oil infrastructure and the steps needed to get it in the proper working order so the heavy crude oil can be harvested. The belief is as well that she will not take money from the drug traffickers to turn the other way, and has learned the lesson that Maduro failed to grasp until it was taught to him.
