How'd your election math work out? :eyebrows: Recovered yet???

The Yankees will be paying A-Rod a minimum of $115 million for the next 5 years if there is no trade. In his condition there won't be. Try some math to figure out how many great players the Yanks will miss because of the payout.

He's still waiting for the returns from Pennsylvania, Merlot.

In 1997, the Tampa Bay Rays lost 96 games. Prior to the 1998 season, all the scouts said the Rays would lose their usual 95-100 games. Not Nate Silver. He said they'd win over 90. They won 97. How'd he do it? Simple. Advanced statistical analysis and performance prognosis, in particular the PECOTA (Player Empirical Comparison and Optimization Test Algorithm) a sabermetric system for forecasting player performance that he developed.

Gee, rumps, you get your hitman Merlot after me. I am shaking    in laughter.

You betcha, DD. As soon as I saw your post, I rang Merlot up on the special Communists Only hotline that Comrade Obama set up for us (at taxpayer expense, of course) and let him know that ol' DD's back and he's too much for me to take on, so can you pitch in here, Comrade Merlot. And, lo and behold, here he is, my fellow conspirator. (Спасибо, товарищ)

I don't understand math. Haha, rumps, you're always the same old cantankerous, condescending man in every post you make. You're attitude: You're great; every one else is stupid.

Gee dd, give poor old rumps a break, rumps has every reason to be angry, you would be too if your team won a mind boggling 2(mind you they were tainted)World Series in the last 93 years and then they go around signing the likes of Johnny(F'in)Gomes, the great David Ross and the corpse of Shane Victorino(voted as the worst signing in MLB this year), in other words.:yield:

Despite the fact that they don't have a DH, the Yankees were somehow unable to come up with $2.75M to re-sign Raul Ibanez, who was very productive for them last year. Ibanez and his 19 dingers in a part-time role have taken flight to Seattle as the Yankees march to oblivion continues.

Hmm, John Kruk is available.

And now the very productive Nick Swisher moves along. Eric Chavez gone...his replacement...nothing. Raul Ibanez gone...his replacement...nothing. Nick Swisher gone...his replacement...nothing. Russell Martin gone...his replacement...Francisco Cervelli. Good work, Brian "Beggars Can't Be Choosers"
Nocashman.

Ten wins out the door. With the decline of fragile Derek "Past a Diving" Jeter, the aging of the pitchers, the departure of Soriano, another five gone. And, presto chango, you have yourself a .500 team.

Swish with a big FU to the red sox! Bwhahahahaahaahaaah..... Happy for Swish, and hope he has some monster years in Ohio. Cody Ross gone and replaced by re-treads in victorino and gomes, thats 5 more losses according to all things in "rumpie-land" ....... Napoli still not signed and even if so is nowhere even close to Agone's talents, thats another 5 in the negative. Dempster and his 5+ ERA in the AL = another "lackie type" and thats another 5 losses so folks we are looking at the red sox being a 54 win team next season, again according to all things "rumpie" haha.

Now i hear the red sox are trying to trade for a #1 closer in Joel Hanrahan, but what good is a top end closer that will have very few chances at a save in the first place from the sox being behind at the end of games .............. Enjoy looking "UP" from below next season rumps, you should be used to it by now and on behalf of the Yankees, and to all red sox fans, Merry Christmas and you have a very Happy YANKEES New Year! :thumb:

Yup, a big FU to a team that showed absolutely no interest in him. You've raised your NQ (Nonsense Quotient) to a new level.

Me doing an iggy imitation, "Boy, Josh Hamilton sure did diss the Yankees by night signing with them."

Napoli still not signed and even if so is nowhere even close to Agone's talents, thats another 5 in the negative.
You are a fucking genius, iggy. So explain something to me,Einstein. Adrian Gonzalez had a WAR of 2.5 for the Sox last year. So tell me how does losing a player with a 2.5 WAR cost you five games? It's really astonishing how often you open your mouth without engaging your brain. (BTW, Napoli had a 1.4 WAR last year. The difference between Napoli 2012 and Gonzalez 2012 was exactly 1.1 game.)

Now tell me what's the difference between Raul Ibanez and Joe Slobotnick?

Dempster and his 5+ ERA in the AL
Yup, and Bill James says 4.05. So who we going to believe, the guy who knows what he's talking about...or you.

Well, as much as you like facts, read em and weep. He had a 5.09 in the AL last year with Texas in 12 starts and a 4.33 era overall for his career which was all in the weaker hitting NL minus 69 (with texas) out of 2225 innings pitched. Welcome to the AL East Dempster lol.

Who is this bill james? I was always warned of guys with 2 first names. ;) I read the article on his breakdowns for the red sox next season and some look accurate if the players stay healthy but his starting pitching projections are quite laughable, especially era's

Great. Your projection is based on what Dempster did in 12 starts in the American League. James is based on what he's done in 15 years in the Major Leagues. Have you ever heard the term "small sample"? Didn't think so.

Dempster's ERA over his 9 seasons with the Cubs in one of the best hitters parks in baseball was 3.75. His career number which you've cited above includes six years prior to that, his ages 21-26 seasons, well before he became the pitcher he's become. In fact, looking a little deeper into the numbers, and I'll handle that since you don't care much for looking below the surface, Dempster's only really been a starter for the last five years. His ERA in those five years has been: 2.96, 3.65, 3.85, 4.80, 3.38.

AS for "Who is Bill James?" Honestly, I wouldn't expect you to know. And that says an awful lot about your degree of ignorance (and your almost religious devotion to ignorance), as Bill is, more than anyone else, responsible for the revolution in how intelligent people, including most General Managers, look at statistics.

Just using the same "thinking" (haha) as you did for predicting Swisher was a part time and avg player at best when he came over to the Yanks, btw he is now making $14 mil a year in case ya did not hear. Trust me, the 5 red sox starters wont do anything like your sabre-hero suggests.

Back to more personal insults rumps? Oh well, nobody does them as well as you do but as the rules stated, play by them or face the wrath of Mod 8.

The interesting thing about Dempster's 12 starts is that the Rangers went 8-4 in them. How? Simple. He gave up 8 runs twice and the won 1 of them. He gave up 4-5 runs 3 times. And he allowed 2 runs in 7 of his 12 starts and they won all of them.

In fact, Dempster didn't pitch badly at all for the Rangers. He just had two really lousy starts.

Beggars Can't Be Choosers Update
Finally dipping into the free agent market in a vain attempt to replace all the hitters they've lost, the Yankees today signed Matt "Who?" Diaz to a one year contract for $12.75 per hour plus tips, plus incentives.

Diaz, a 35 year old right handed hitter (who, unfortunately, hasn't hit since 2009) will be used primarily as a fourth outfielder, pinch hitter, and shoe shine boy. The incentives in Diaz' contract call for Diaz, an avid model airplane collector, to be paid time and a half should he be employed to put the pieces of either Kevin Youkilis or Derek Jeter back together, as necessary. The signing of the 35 year old Diaz lowers the Yankee roster's average age by 12 days.

Red Sox fans are livid at Cherington for giving up prospect Jerry Sands for Hanrahan, it looks like Cherington got taken to school by the Pirates, quote from a Red Sox fan from another board-

"I hate this trade. To me, it makes absolutely no sense. Hanrahan will probably improve the Sox' bullpen, but I don't think he's going to make a difference in the standings. If the Sox win, they probably would have won anyway, and if they lose, they just wasted a prospect on a one year rental player. Cherington had been doing a great job of having prospects in line to take over in a few years; now he's dumped his 1B power prospect and has gotten a closer who, if he has a good year, will either cost a fortune to extend or will leave Boston after next season anyway. I don't understand this trade at all. It looked like Ben Cherington had a pretty good plan, and now I'm not so sure. This is the trade of a team that just needs one piece to get over the top; the Red Sox are not that team. Instead, they are rebuilding, and they just gave away one of their best building blocks."

Joe, my delusional buddy, you get this from the board of Delusional Baseball Buddies. Jerry Sands is as much a prospect as my Aunt Gertrude, although considering the shambles that the Yankee farm system is in, I can see why you'd see him as one. (BTW, Josey boy, Sands lost his rookie status in 2011. Prospect, hah.)

BTW, there's an APB out for you in the football thread. Here's hoping you're over the embarrassment by this week's games. Nice guy that I am, I'll be making my random picks any day now to give you a chance to get even.

Nice to see that you are alive and well Jman47, with your team finishing in dead last place and you pulling a Houdini I was beginning to worry, you never know the effect on one's psyche when their team finishes in dead last place and will probably finish in dead last place in 2013.

Now how about those Blue Jays(my second favorite team and favored to win the East).:thumb:
