Ben Chafin, a Republican state senator from Virginia, has died of complications of Covid-19, the State Senate’s Republican Caucus confirmed on Friday evening. He had been receiving treatment at the VCU Medical Center in Richmond for two weeks, his family said in a statement.

Mr. Chafin, 60, was first elected to Virginia’s Senate in 2014.

Quebec is locking down along with curfews:

Quebec is locking down along with curfews:

Wow! Anyone want to hazard a guess whether the border opens in 2021 and we can cross into Canada without quarantining?

I’ll be honest....I am a bit shocked (maybe I shouldn’t be) there is really no light at end of tunnel this far into pandemic. Back in the fall, I sort of thought and said, perhaps rashly, that by mid-summer 2021we’d all be up there booking appointments through James and Sam again. This whole thing is getting old just chatting on Merb about activities we Americans likely won’t be partaking in for a long while.

Hope everyone up there stays safe! How I wouldn’t enjoy to be sitting at McLeans Pub right now.

I feel the same way. I remember talking to my buddies about making plans for a Montreal trip over this past summer. There's no way the border is going to be closed through the summer. Boy was I wrong! It's not looking good for the border being open for even this upcoming summer. This time last year I was watching the World Juniors at McCleans drinking a bloody Caesar without a care in the world. My how things have changed.

nothing beats the “Kenny Caesars” sitting at the bar in McLeans chatting with the locals over brunch. Add in music at Hurley’s over Guinness and it makes for a great weekend.

I’m not feeling optimistic about 2021. We would need a helluva turnaround to go from lockdowns and curfews to freely crossing the border to book appointments without quarantining in a hotel. And I just don’t know how Customs reviews vaccine verifications in an expedient manner.

I think I’m going to have to book hot North New Jersey talent two days in a row and drink some Moosehead and Caesars before those appointments. I miss the old country. ;)

The problem with lockdowns and curfews is that once they are enacted (much like the border closure) its very difficult to go back to normal. Small businesses in NY would be a perfect example. Bars, restaurants, gyms etc. have taken forever to open back up, even now at limited capacity and they are the first ones to get shut down again when the numbers tick up. It's easier to close a store, shut down a border, than it is to find a solution to the problem. Sure, I don't get to bang my favorite Montreal SP's, but there are people with real hardships because of all these lockdowns and border closings.

True dat. Yeah, not hobbying in Montreal is indeed a first World problem. That said, we are somewhat more fortunate in NJ. I can still walk into a Hoboken bar or visit a Hooters in central NJ. But still in all, both NY and NJ restaurants are under so much duress, as are most small businesses. You’re right. It’s hard to put the toothpaste back in tube.

Pharmacist who destroyed doses of vaccines (COVID) was a conspirator.

A US pharmacist who destroyed hundreds of doses of the coronavirus vaccine last month was “a conspirator” who believed the vaccines were dangerous, US officials said.

Steven Brandenburg, who worked nights at the Aurora Medical Center in Grafton, Wisconsin (North), had removed 57 vials of Moderna vaccine, each containing ten doses, from the refrigerators at this center, because he thought the vaccine could modify human DNA.
Some of these inert vaccines were then given to people who hadn’t suffered any harm, according to the hospital.

It's dramatic.

i am scheduled to get my vaccine in about a week. Hopefully, my life will then return to normal and I can comfortably see providers again. Of course, i would be really happy if they opened the border to those with a vaccination certification.

I just saw today in the subway's tv news that seven people who've been vaccinated in Quebec in a long-term care home have contracted the virus.
I think I'm gonna get depressed very soon.

And be a spreader... as vaccine will prevent you being very sick but not to contract de virus, amplifying it and contaminate others. Think twice... You see that's an additional reason to keep the border closed.

The Fauci article is interesting. Is it accurate? Perhaps, perhaps not. I don't know.

Here's what Wikipedia says about the source of the article (The Federalist) :

Coronavirus pandemic misinformation[edit]

During the COVID-19 pandemic, The Federalist published numerous pieces that contained false information or information that was contrary to the recommendations of public health experts and authorities.[5][26] The Federalist published articles denouncing social distancing, as well as articles claiming that fears over the pandemic had been overhyped by the Democratic Party and the media. The Federalist co-founder Sean Davis said that Democrats were intentionally trying to "destroy the economy" as a "last-ditch 2020 play", and that "All they care about is power. And if they have to destroy your life and business to get power back, they will." The Federalist published articles calling on the government to quickly end social distancing directions, and to open businesses again.[26] Co-founder Domenech attacked a prominent analysis from Imperial College London which estimated the loss of life due to the pandemic; Domenech attacked the analysis for revising its figures downward, but the reason that the analysis did so was that the analysis incorporated the social distancing and shutdown strategies that had increasingly been implemented.[27] Tracinski, a former contributor, wrote in Bulwark that The Federalist devolved over time into a "conspiracy-mongering partisan rag that has now become a menace to public health".[27]

It published a piece by someone identified as a physician in Oregon who recommended that people hold "chickenpox"-style parties for the coronavirus to build herd immunity, but the recommendations were contrary to those of public health experts, and the author in question did not have a medical license and had worked as a businessman for decades.[26][28][29] At the time, experts warned that the number of new infections should be kept down so as to not overburden the health care system.[30] The Federalist was subsequently temporarily suspended from Twitter for promoting fringe ideas that contradicted public health experts and were harmful to public health.[29] Reddit also removed links to The Federalist article on its platform.[31]

Thank you for your exhaustive research. Wikipedia's word is widely believed to have been given to us at Mount Sinai and therefore it must be taken with utmost seriousness. Here is another interesting quote from the sacred fount of knowledge:
A modern version of "shooting the messenger" can be perceived when someone blames the media for presenting bad news about a favored cause, person, organization, etc. "Shooting the messenger" may be a time-honored emotional response to unwanted news, but it is not a very effective method of remaining well-informed."[

You don't have to search a long time to find someone supposedly knowledgeable who will affirm that the earth is flat !
