Hello baseball fans,

This is the new Free For All thread which will follow the same rules as it's counterpart for hockey. In other words other than personal insults, this is the place to blow off steam. Have fun and try to behave.

Mod 8

EDIT: By the way, I expect member names to be spelled correctly and posts quoted correctly, even in this thread. If you wish to have fun with quotes, I suggest including the original quote followed by what you believe it should have been. This should satisfy the urge for satire that some of you seem to have.

I doubt that, but one thing i have noticed after his first 2 games as skipper of the red sox, the man looks like he has aged 20 years since he was giving commentary on television the night of the most epic collapse last september. You remember that night dont you? It was the best night in baseball history!

Well, besides the Yankees...what really sucks is unfair moderation and rule interpretation and application of said rules. Two members intentionally and maliciously made posts to pollute and attempt to get a thread closed...and are rewarded with exactly what they wanted...unbelieveable. It is blatently clear that certain members of this forum can just do whatever the fuck they want and are supported by the moderators:eek:...now ... I feel better.

Along the lines of what sucks...how about my one all time favorite overpaid Bluejay...Josie "Bow Wow" Bautista...0 for 4 and WHAT A GUN!?! Did you see that 2 bouncer to the plates from about 240' out in short right field....OH YEAH! Man that guy has a cannon for an arm!!!

POP GUN.jpg

You would think that after being lucky enough to bail out of all of the other big $ contract blunders Toronto has made that someone would have been smart enough to see that old Bow Wow was just having a career year that would never last. Wonder where they are gonna dumb this clown:confused:? But then again...with such a strong tradition of losing in Toronto...across ALL sports...why change now?

Have fun,

Jman

Remember the best night in baseball history well...was EPIC and may NEVER be repeated.

Hello jman,

The Deathwatch threads were not closed due to the behaviour of any member or any particular post. I have been intending to close them from the day they were started but simply had more important things to take care of on MERB. When it comes to my moderator list of priorities, the Sports forums are at the bottom of the list. There is no purpose of death watch threads so early in the season of any sport. The only thing they accomplish is getting tempers up.

This will also apply to any other sport being discussed on MERB. Such threads will be reserved for the last month of the season only. Such threads have a habit of getting out of hand and I do not have the time to babysit them. I have no intention of permitting any thread dedicated to the bashing of any one particular team. That is what the Free For All thread is for and one thread for this purpose is more than enough.

Mod8,

The type of thread really isn't his point. It's the equitable treatment of members and enforcement of your own violation citations...ie...faith in the mods. We all understand the priorities of the board, and what a nuisance the sports threads are to the mods. But when you did take the time to address the last violation that angered you, how much more time would it have taken to give it it's due course while you were at it.

You didn't need this citation of a quote rule to act. You made one to use well over a year ago, and it's been clear since then that it applied to all threads, despite some member's idiotic excuses.

Well, whatever. It's a sex board. In and out of the sports threads when it seems one member can dance around one mod at will, and another member can humiliate another mod with impunity we should all just pass it off if you can....right?

If you guys have not noticed by now, the usual rules of MERB are not exactly enforced in the sports threads to the letter. If they were I think there are a number of posters in these threads who would have been permanently banned by now. This is why I specify the rules in sports threads when they are begun. Death watch threads are also closer to the Free For All thread than they are to the Official thread. As we already have a Free For All thread, there is no reason to have any others. Now if people are going to start complaining and crying like children over how I chose to enforce the rules in these sports threads maybe you will have something to really cry about when I shut down the entire Sports Forum.

Now stop whining and grow some thicker skin. The only thing this childish schoolyard behavior will result in is the complete shutdown of the Sports section. I know that would make my job here a lot simpler and easier to do. We now have THREE full time mods on the board with a fourth, Mod 9, helping out when his time permits. Out of the four of us, only I am willing to moderate in this section. That should tell you something. I did not become a moderator here to moderate a Sports board and if this continues, I will no longer be willing to moderate this section either. That will leave two options, let the Sports section go un-moderated and become a total free for all atmosphere in all threads or close the section. Which choice do you think I will make?

Smarten up because I do not intend to have this discussion again.

Mod 8,

I had no problem with the thread closure of the death watch threads. I had a problem with the blatantly deliberate and undisciplined attempt to get it closed. I realize the rules get enforced losely. Problem is when they are enforced not to the letter the letter that are not are always the same and it ALWAYS favors 2 posters...not whining, stating fact...the record speaks for itself.

Please spare us the thick skin speach...again...we all know the gate swings only one direction. Maybe some new mod blood will see things a little differently.
Thanks for your efforts...I know it is a thankless job.

Enjoy your evening,

Jman47

Ok boyz, back to baseball....... The Dan Bard experiment as a starter is off to a rocky start tonight in Toronto. He goes 5 innings gives up 5er 8 hits and one walk, striking out 6 and throwing 96 pitches. Oh well, go get em next time Tiger!

For the life of me, why did they take him out of the bullpen? The guy was absolutely awesome in the bullpen, and i figured that naturally, he'd be their closer if they didn't re-sign Papelbon. But no!!! That idiot Valentine decides to make him a starter!!! And worse, he keeps him there after their closer (Bailey) goes down for most of the season!!!! I don't get it!! I really don't get it!!

Red Sox suck!!!!!!!!!

BowWow goes sub Mendoza...

In the Red Sox loss to the Bluejays today in front of about 2,000 dedicated (to a losing tradition) Toronto fans...my fav jay, the big BowWow (thats Josie Bowtista)...went 0fer again.
0 for 3 today; 0 for 4 yesterday...he has now gone sub-Mendoza.

Looks like Jose is back to his old self. What do you think...maybe a trade to the Angels  before the deadline?!
I know, lets ask Burkie...he has ALL of the answers!!!:lol::lol:

Give em the finger Grady, the middle one!

TORONTO -- Terry Francona apparently is not the only Boston Red Sox manager prepared to skip the 100th anniversary celebration of Fenway Park next week.

According to a baseball source, Grady Little was sent an invitation at his North Carolina address, but to date the club has not received a reply.

That is not likely to come as a shock to anyone. Little was fired under humiliating circumstances in 2003, just days after the Red Sox lost Game 7 of the ALCS to the New York Yankees. Instead of praise for taking the Red Sox to within a game of what would have been their first World Series since 1986, Little was eviscerated for his decision not to replace ace Pedro Martinez with a reliever with the Red Sox ahead by three runs with six outs to go.

The Yankees rallied to tie the score against Martinez, then won on Aaron Boone's home run off Tim Wakefield in the 11th inning. But just as Bill Buckner bore singular blame for Boston's Game 6 loss to the New York Mets in the '86 Series, so, too, did Little, for '03, with owner John W. Henry famously joking, according to published accounts, that instead of declaring the celebratory tagline, "I'm going to Disney World," he was substituting, "I'm firing Grady Little."

Little, like Francona, was deeply wounded by the circumstances of his exit from the Red Sox. His two-year term with the Sox had begun under much happier circumstances, when he received a standing ovation from the team in spring training when introduced by the Sox owners as new manager.

Some of Little's comments about being fired bear an uncanny resemblance to comments made by Francona in the days since his departure. Like Francona, Little said he wasn't even sure he wanted to return.

"If they don't want me, fine, they don't want me," Little said at the time. "If they want me to come back, then we'll talk and see if I want to come back up there. That's the way I feel about it."

In March, when Francona visited Sox training camp with his ESPN broadcasting team, he had said he probably wouldn't attend the anniversary celebration.

"I'm not sure I'm ready for the hugs,'' he said. "I haven't stopped the bleeding.''

Little, during the firestorm about the Martinez decision: "Less than 24 hours before, those same people were hugging and kissing me. If that's the way they operate, I'm not sure I want to be part of it."

A number of players defended Little's decision, most notably catcher Jason Varitek, even years later.

Little's most famous parting shot: "Just add one more ghost to the list if I'm not there, because there are ghosts. That's certainly evident when you're a player in that uniform."

The Red Sox have made an effort to invite everyone who has ever worn a Sox uniform, at least those for whom they have an address.

While Francona almost certainly would receive an ovation if he did attend, it's not clear what kind of reception would be accorded Little, even though the Red Sox won two World Series in the next four seasons. His name still provokes a strong reaction among many Sox fans.

"That's not my problem," he said. "Just add one more ghost to the list if I'm not there, because there are ghosts. That's certainly evident when you're a player in that uniform.":lol::lol:
