Toronto Maple Leafs: A Portrait of Failure
Forget that they've gone 46 years without making it to the Finals even once.
Forget that they made the playoffs only once in the past decade (and in a shortened season!).
Forget their history-making EPIC COLLAPSE in game seven (of the FIRST round, it goes without saying!) in the ONE time they did make the playoffs.
Forget that their last individual major trophy winner was Little Dougie Gilmour way back in 1993.
Forget that their one and only Conn Smythe winner was Little Dave Keon way back in 1967.
Forget that a leaf hasn't led the NHL in scoring in 75 years.
Forget that the last leaf voted league MVP was in 1955.
Forget that a leaf has NEVER won the Norris Trophy, the Art Ross, the Jennings, the Richard, or the Lindsay.
Forget that the last time a leaf won the Vezina Trophy was in 1965.
Forget that the last time a leaf won the Calder Trophy was in 1966.
Forget that the only leaf coach to win the Jack Adams Award was in 1993: Pat Burns, who ALSO won it with Montreal and Boston.
Forget about the maple leaf garden sex scandals.
Forget about the 4 years under Brian Burke, where the leafs NEVER made the playoffs even though Burke's stated objective was to make the playoffs every year.
Forget about the fact that Burke was brought in to be a savior but actually produced WORSE results than his oft-criticized predecessor John Ferguson Jr.
Forget about Harold Ballard and the Ontario Teachers.
Forget about the highest prices in the league for the worst on-ice product.
Yes, sports fans, forget ALL of that...and just look at recent events THIS YEAR:
The leafs have lost 6 of their last 8, 10 of their last 14,
They have won only 3 OF THEIR LAST 24 GAMES in regulation time.
They've been OUTSHOT IN 32 OF 38 GAMES.
Conclusion: Leafs have sucked for 46 YEARS and leafs STILL suck.
