Next season will likely be Kessel's last season with the Leafs, so the time to trade him is now.
Even though Kessel's numbers have been nothing short of great over the past few years (he's even got better numbers than Gino Malkin), he hasn't fit in well in Toronto & you can't give a one-dimensional player like him 'franchise-player' type money. He doesn't bring anything else to the table other than scoring goals: he's got zero presence in the dressing room, he can't check his own shadow, he's basically invisible among his teammates, he hates talking to the media (too shy), and ever since his arrival in Toronto, he's constantly been put under a microscope and it'll never stop as long as Tyler Seguin & Doug Hamilton continue starring for the Boston Bruins.
Must give you partial credit on this oldie but goodie, Doctor.
You were wrong in predicting that the Stick was likely leaving toronto but obviously the leafs would have been WAY better off if he did.
You were REALLY on another planet with the Malkin comment, but in your defense leaf fans NEVER bother with FACTS.
But - kudos to you - you were ABSOLUTELY CORRECT with your evaluation of Phil as "a one-dimensional player" (or should that be ZERO- dimensional, to be more accurate?) and you were RIGHT ON when you said he shouldn't get "franchise-player type money". Too bad for you and for all leaf fans that Nonis gave him that utterly ridiculous 8 year, $64 million contract, thereby dooming the leafs for close to a decade to come. You were also EXACTLY CORRECT when you said "he can't check his own shadow".
All in all, except for the pipe dream about Malkin, your post was pretty damned accurate. Nice work!
