CONGRATS PENGUINS

No surprise of course, but still great to see a severely depleted Penguins team beat the hopeless leafs 3 - 1.

Leaf fans were high as a kite after beating Chicago's third and fourth string goalies and embarking on a phenomenal ONE GAME WINNING STREAK. There were glorious dreams of the first Cup since 67, following their infamous 46 YEARS of complete and utter failure.

Alas, the poor desperate self-delusional saps who cheer for Canada's National Embarrassment have once again had their ridiculous, hopeless dreams CRUSHED by reality.

Toronto is now 3-6-1 in the last 10.

Toronto has now LOST 8 OF ITS LAST 12 GAMES.

Toronto has won only 3 OF ITS LAST 21 games in regulation time.

Toronto was again outshot and outplayed. Toronto has only outshot its opponents FIVE TIMES ALL SEASON.

Toronto STILL sucks! Toronto will ALWAYS suck!

Glad to : it's the Detroit Red Wings.

And now, a trivia question for you: Name the only team to lose twice to the LAST-PLACE BUFFALO SABRES this season, including a SIX-NOTHING whitewash by the LAST PLACE BUFFALO SABRES.

Hey Doc, as you can see from the quoted post, I answered your trivia question a while back but you never answered this question that I gave to you.

I can only assume you're stumped, so as usual I'll be a great guy and give you the answer: It's none other than your beloved Toronto Maple Leafs.

Don't worry: I won't charge you - consider the ongoing hockey education that I'm giving you as a Christmas present from one Merbite to another. Happy HOLIDAYS, HOLLIDAY! (Couldn't resist!)

After tonight's loss to Florida AT HOME, here is a quick recap of recent leaf history:

LOST 2 in row.
LOST 5 of the last 6.
LOST 9 of the last 12.
"won" only THREE OF THEIR LAST 22 (!!!) in regulation time.
Outshot opponents in only SIX GAMES ALL SEASON!

And it gets even worse for hogtown: Their goalies, who saved their hopeless skaters many times this season, are coming back to Earth. Reimer was .870 tonight - far more in keeping with his "skill" level than his earlier overachieving performances. Phaneuf and Clarkson were both useless as usual and there's one other leaf I'd like to talk about, but I didn't SEE him - it was almost as if he was INVISIBLE.

You know, the Wings have had disappointing results lately...but the leafs are just SO freakin' bad that Detroit stays ahead of them even when they lose!

The FUNNIEST part of 24/7 was Phaneuf putting on his bow tie...and his PINK SOCKS.

On a far less funny note, it was clear that even Randy "Toaster Man" Carlyle realized IMMEDIATELY what a dirty, illegal hit Phaneuf threw. As soon as it happened Carlyle was heard to say "Dion, what are you doing?" FOR SURE that 2 game suspension was WELL deserved!

Yeah, and Monster did so much better: 3 goals on 11 shots, after which he was pulled out, with an amazing .727

So, if we're to follow your reasoning, the Leafs were quite right not to keep him on board.

Like I said, Wings have had disappointing results but (luckily) the leafs are just SO bad that the Wings are still ahead of them anyway! We're lucky that we have such crap in the East.

By the way, the leafs better start looking BEHIND them : Ottawa and Florida are rapidly catching up! GO SENS! GO PANTHERS!

So should the Wings, the way they've been playing lately.

Yeah but the Sens and the Panthers first have to climb over the rotting corpse of the leafs before they reach the Wings.

PS: At least you haven't gone into hiding like your two fellow leaflovers.

I totally with agree with you guys that both the Leafs and the Red Wings have struggled mightily over the past month or so. Thank god for both teams that they started the season on the right foot. Blame the Florida resurgence on the Red Wings. Florida wasn't doing anything and were stuck near the bottom of the league until those two consecutive victories against the Red Wings, which started Florida's recent streak & turned the team into currently one of the league's hottest.

I suppose it's good to see both teams struggling & stumbling around towards that January 1st game. It makes for better tv.

On another note, let me make a prediction:

Milan Lucic will enter alcohol rehab before next season comes around. The recent incident isn't the first time he's been in trouble with the law due to situations were alcohol was consumed. I also remember a domestic incident with his girlfriend.

Maybe you're getting at least a little bit smarter - it's obviously a lot easier and more intelligent to predict a win for the Wings than for your stinkin' leafs.

Good news for the leafs: 1. They actually managed to win a game.
2. They beat Phoenix for the first time since October 23, 2003 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).
3. Reimer played well and saved their bacon...yet AGAIN!

BAD NEWS FOR THE leafs: 1. They won in a shootout, which means they have won only 3 of their last 23 (!!) games in regulation.
2. They couldn't beat PHOENIX even ONCE for over a DECADE!
3. They've lost 5 of their last 7, 9 of their last 13.
4. They were outshot 35-27, which means they've been outshot in 31 of their 37 games!
5. Kessel's continuing to play in "sleep" mode. Even WORSE: Phaneuf is playing like Phaneuf!

Three teams that the leaflovers have been disparaging all season long: Habs, Bolts, Wings.

Now, let's check something that leaflovers HATE - namely the FACTS.

Current standings, Atlantic Division:

Boston: 48 points, ONLY 35 games played
TBay: 45 points, ONLY 35 games played (Bravo Stevie Y!)
Montreal: 45 points, 37 games played
Detroit: 41 points, 37 games played

toronto: 39 points, 37 games played

Those same leaflovers have been disparaging 3 Wings all season, while praising to the skies their poster boy Phil Kessel.

Now, let's again check something that leaflovers STILL hate. You guessed it : the FACTS.

Kessel: 37 games played, 17 goals, 15 assists, 32 points, ZERO in plus/minus, 9.19% (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) on faceoffs.

Zetterberg: ONLY 28 games played, 11 goals, 19 assists, 30 points, Plus 12, 50.8% on faceoffs
Datsyuk: ONLY 30 games played, 13 goals. 15 assists, 28 points, Plus 3, 53.4% on faceoffs
Alfie: ONLY 32 games played, 9 goals, 18 assists, 27 points, Plus 6, 28.6% on faceoffs (not very good...but STILL THREE TIMES BETTER THAN KESSEL).

Note that our leaflovers have made fun of these guys for being old and European, as opposed to American-born Phil Kessel, who turned 26 in October and should be in the PRIME of his career.
Note however that the 3 Wings are ALL doing better than Kessel in just about every way even though all 3 have battled injuries (including concussion for Pav!) and "in-his-prime" Phil has been healthy all season long!

THEN....add the fact that the 3 Wings are ALL terrific leaders and are ALL complete players, as opposed to one-trick-pony Kessel!

Sorry for destroying your dreams boys, now go drown your sorrows in a few gallons of that Koolaid that you love!

"Boston teddy bears" - Really? Better be careful ig: if Chara or Lucic sees that, they might take it out on Phaneuf - and he's already TERRIFIED of them (just like he's terrified of Subban, John Scott, and probably dozens of other guys...ESPECIALLY if he doesn't have the chance to illegally, dangerously and cowardly hit them from BEHIND).

1. "Tought" - I believe the ENGLISH word you're looking for is "tough". Maybe nobody ever taught you to spell.

2. For ages, you were shooting off your hockey-challenged mouth about how tough the East is and how it was going to be so tough for the Wings when they left the "weak" (sic) West and came to the tough East. After I - and a few other posters who ALSO actually KNOW something about hockey - pointed out that it's actually the WEST that is better and tougher - and has been that way for EIGHT YEARS - you changed your tune. As usual, junior, you were SCHOOLED. Say "thank you", little guy.
