Brian Bukre's imprint is all over this team, like it or not. This team is not gonna win every game and will no doubt lay an egg some nights.

Well said! Can't argue with a single word. (Spelling is another story: His name is actually "Burke".)

Sadly for Lightning fans, the current GM has failed in all aspects & i grade him a giant "F".

Yet he was chosen as GM of Canada's Olympic team and won two golds in his two attempts.

BTW, HIS team did very well in the 2013-2014 season (despite missing the great Steven Stamkos for most of it) and MADE the playoffs... unlike a certain bunch of sad sacks from toronto.

If you give the great Stevie Y. an F, what do you give Dave Nonis - a Z?

People think because a player had success, as a player, that he will be the same as a GM or Coach. Not always true especially in the case as we are seeing with Steve Why in Tampa. Steve Why's days are numbered unless things drastically change.

Actually, if anyone has "numbered" days, it's Dave Nonis. Think: David Clarkson, Dion Phaneuf, Phil Kessel: 3 horrendous contracts that have destroyed the future of the leafs for at least the next 7 years...and that's without even considering all the OTHER bungling that has gone on.

Should the Red Wings miss the playoffs, this would be an embarrassment to the entire city of Detroit & its fan base. There is no doubt in my mind that coach Mike Babcock would be fired by GM Ken Holland in order to save his job. But will it be enough?

Yes it would be an embarrassment if Detroit missed the playoffs. Fortunately they have NOT missed for 23 consecutive seasons...UNLIKE the wretched, truly awful toronto maple leafs, who have FAILED to make the playoffs 9 of the past 10 years. The difference is that this is NOT an embarrassment for toronto - in toronto, missing the playoffs is NORMAL.

Toronto Maple Leafs - Further Evidence of Total FAILURE

There are 30 teams in the National Hockey League.

In the past decade, there are 4 of those 30 teams that have made the playoffs just ONCE.

The Edmonton Oilers did it in 2005-2006, in a FULL season, and made it all the way to the FINAL. The Oilers have only been in the league since 1979-1980 and have won FIVE Cups.

The Florida Panthers did it in 2010-2011 in a FULL season. The Panthers have only been in the league since 1993-1994 and they made it all the way to the FINAL in 1995-1996.

The Winnipeg Jets (version 2) have only been in the league as the Jets since 2011-2012. Previously, as the Atlanta Thrashers, they made the playoffs in 2006-2007 in a FULL season. The Thrashers were only in the league since 1999-2000. In the just-completed 2013-2014 season, the Jets finished 22nd out of 30 teams, while the toronto maple leafs finished 23rd.

Which brings us to the leafs: The ONLY time this wretched franchise qualified for the playoffs in the last decade was in the SHORTENED season of 2012-2013. As we all know, they were eliminated in HUMILIATING fashion after staging a cowardly and EPIC COLLAPSE in game 7 of the FIRST ROUND. The collapse made history as the worst ever in a Stanley Cup game 7. The leafs have not made it to the Final even ONCE since 1967. The leafs have been in the league since 1917-1918. They have won a grand total of THREE playoff games in the past TEN years!

The Most Recent Decade of Failure for the Toronto Maple Leafs

As we all know, the leafs have now endured almost FIVE DECADES of failure - 47 YEARS to be exact.

Let's just look at the last decade:

There are 30 teams in the NHL. Here is how toronto has finished in those 30 in the past decade:

2004-2005: season cancelled
2005-2006: 18th
2006-2007: 18th
2007-2008: 24th
2008-2009: 24th
2009-2010: 29th
2010-2011: 22nd
2011-2012: 26th
2012-2013: 9th....in a SHORTENED SEASON
2013-2014: 23rd

AVERAGE FINISH: 21st
AVERAGE FINISH IN FULL SEASONS: 23rd

The FACTS prove it: the toronto maple leafs are truly a wretched, pathetic, hopeless "team"...a "team" that does not deserve to be in the National Hockey League.

Mod20, how about applying an anti-OCD rule where a member is only allowed to post a maximum of two consecutive posts within a one-hour period?

OCD rule that applies only to negative post about the leafs. The leafs are done and we should not feed ourself on a dead carcasses !!
The Habs are playing magnificently and we should concentrate on that . The solution for the power play is to comeback to what was working before . A one timer from pk and deflecting or taking the rebound to score ! Like the goal of desharnais yesterday!
It's only one victory for the mighty wings but I think they can upset and beat boston ! Quintal as is first big challenge in reviewing the elegant shot of kreji on dekeyser!! What an asshole ! At least one game !

No, an anti-OCD rule that applies to everyone & everything.

It's downright crazy to regularly (and continuously) post something every 5-10 minutes with no one replying or posting other than the same person. I've worked in the medical field for 30+ years and my best friend also happens to be a clinical psychologist (he's also a merbite & has been consulted about this). What we see here is typical OCD-type behaviour & it can be very destructive if left untreated.

We are not doing the person a favor by allowing him to keep on being a victim to his psychological disorder. For his own good, he should be stopped & be told to stay away from any computer. However, we both know that implementing this order from a distance is impossible & that the 'patient' will not oblige, thinking he's doing no wrong & everyone else is either nuts or in the wrong.

Therefore, the best treatment possible for this person & others suffering from such an ailment is to apply new rules & enforcing them. It will do everyone afflicted with this disorder a lot good, and actually improve the quality of the thread.

What good is a thread when 95% of the posts are from a single member? After a while, no one bothers to read that thread. I'd add that it would eventually, but not when the person with the majority of posts very likely suffers from a mental illness called OCD. It's very treatable, though. But again, the person suffering from it must aknowledge it and accept treatment & will take his medication regularly.

It's funny because a few of us were talking about the "patient" in question at the last GG's party (or should I say having laughs at) and someone (maybe it was you Doc, I was kinda busy that night and forget exactly who it was) brought up OCD or another disorder.

I think the Brendan Shanahan signing by the Leafs really hit home and caused massive overload in one's brain, almost trauma like.

All kidding aside, we need a poster like cairo. He is our "rumples" of the hockey threads. Well almost, rumples actually did a review once or twice.

marc7, I would not get to high about the habs yet, they are playing a team that is without their top goalie who is sure to get Vezina votes for what he did during the season. That series is all but over and they can thank injury to Ben Bishop as the reason why they will win one round.

Napoleon was ask if he prefer a good general or a lucky general ! He said a lucky one ...
Luck is on our side for a change and yes it looks easy the history tells wind can change at any time ! We have a good team but most of all Brière Eller and Bourque are playing inspired hokey a third line that can kill!

Babcok as no reason at all to go to T.O . He as a team in good health that play head to head Boston ! The leaf need some québécois blood like Roy , Therrien , julien! Stop listening to the clown on CBC cause their's only one Canadian team in the playoff !

No reason at all to leave Detroit for Toronto? How about double or triple his current salary, which only has a year left on it? How about being employed by a legendary organization who's second only to Montreal in total Stanley Cups won? How about relocating to one of North America's most beautiful & prosperous cities instead of remaining in one of North America's worst cities?

I'm also quite certain that Mike Babcock would love to accept the challenge of coaching the Maple Leafs & lead them to the promised land.

Plus, he's good buddies with Brendan Shanahan & it's only a matter of time until Shanahan begins to raid the Red Wings organization of it's top managerial talent. I also wouldn't bank on Ken Holland remaining in Detroit forever. I mean, come on! Who the hell wants to live in Detroit??? Ken Holland may actually wind up being the GM of the Leafs in the not-too-distant future! :thumb:

I find the Joelcairo's post very informative and quite amusing at the same time.

All this is, is pay back. After all, this is the free for all thread. I find it amusing that some member, as above, can't take what they themselves dish out.

The Habs are playing great hockey. Bruins and Red Wing series is shaping up to be a good one.

I read somewhere that Zetteberg may play, if the Wings get past the Wings.

May the best team win.

Brendan Shanahan will not, unfortunately, make any difference to the leafs situation for years to come.

Do you prefer to be a winner in a dump or a might be a looser in a gold castle ! Money does not guarantee you championship it helps! The leafs need a mentality change like Bergevin brought from Chicago . Barry Trotz would be a better choice ! He went 7 times to the playoff with a so-so team and that is an exploit by itself ! Ken Holland is good but the spirit of the wings is Scotti Bowman , he forged that team to the spirit of the Habs of the 70's . It takes a team from ground up .
Scotty Bowman is a reel mr hockey , hope shanahan learned something from him not let himself be influenced by like's of the clown cherry!

Like giving double or triple the salary given to Clarkson and Your Captain. Really ? And Babcock would go for it !

Babcock will be in Detroit foe a long time. I see no reason for him to leave. Making the playoffs 23 years in a row is something he would want to

continue and have a reasonable chance of winning the cup. Toronto, I don't think so.

Excellent points in both your posts Ballsamic in response to the posters with over 12000 posts and over 8000 posts. Kind of ironic, isn't it, that people with such massive post counts are calling for restrictions on individual posts, rather than responding to the HOCKEY content in those posts?

It's also amusing that people who have continually bashed the Wings and such individual Wing stalwarts (in management, coaching and playing) as Holland, Babcock and Shanahan are now thrilled to have Shanny join them and are hoping for Babcock and Holland to do the same.

It's also amusing that leaf fans were constantly chirping and bragging until the inevitable collapse near the end of the season, at which point they all vanished...only to return after several weeks absence and start in with the incorrect, unsubstantiated personal insults...because as usual they cannot take what they give and because they cannot respond to HOCKEY facts with HOCKEY talk.

Detroit and Boston: 2 good teams. Montreal and Tampa Bay: 2 good teams. The other 12 squads in the playoffs: all good teams. Whichever team wins will deserve it. The teams that failed to make the playoffs clearly do not deserve it.

I find the Joelcairo's post very informative and quite amusing at the same time.

I will never poke fun at someone who suffers from a mental illness such as OCD. We should help the sufferers instead of being 'amused' by them. Even here on this great board known as Merb. We should do our best to help a fellow brother (or sister) instead of just letting them be & sink further into their despair. As a famous man once said: "Love your neighbour as yourself."

Money talks, brother. And money is one thing MLSE has plenty of! Mike Babcock is tired of living in North America's largest slum known as "Detroit" and will jump at the chance to make more money & live in one of North America's finest metropolis.

First Mike Babcock, and then Kenny Holland. I see a day in the near future where both of these fine gentlemen will be plying their trade for the Toronto Maple Leafs. These fine gentlemen deserve a break & even though i'm quite aware that life ain't always fair, they deserve a fair shake & be allowed to relocate away from the quicksand of America. May they get their wishes & be able to be employed in the great city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada......where they rightly belong.
