Exciting season ahead for the reinvigorated Wings - great mixture of experience (Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Kronwall, Alfie, Weiss....) and very talented youth along with the usual great coaching and management. Could be time to up the recent Cup count from 4 to 5, especially since they'll have a far easier time with the new re-alignment (less travel and far weaker competition).

Thats what i'm talking about! Clarkson was wanted by over 20 teams and chose the promised land, the mecca and center of the hockey universe...welcome to the Toronto Maple Leafs Mr. Clarkson.

With Bolland and Clarkson (who btw are the prototypical Randy Carlyle type players) and the re signing of Bozak, and the acquisition of Jonathan Bernier, Mr Dave Nonis has done a wonderful job so far in his first offseason as GM. Good stuff :thumb:

Detroit had to do something since they will be playing in a very strong eastern conference next season but they did not address toughness and that could come back to haunt them. The more i think about it, a 40 yr old Alfie and a injury prone Weiss are not that great of upgrade, but ok. Cant wait for the original 6 matchups between the Leafs and Wings 5 times a season.

My take on the division based on additions and subtractions to each team (so far):

Boston....B did not get better, did not get much worse....
Buffalo D.... did nothing and looks like a tank season for a lottery pic
Montreal C... is a 36 yr of now a shell of his former self Danny Briere really gonna make them better?
Ottawa... B+/A-/A... Alfie is on his last legs and they did not lose much in way of production, but in character lost alot, but Ryan is HUGE for them.
Toronto... A... lost Frattin, Mac, Scrivens.. gained Bernier, Bolland, Clarkson (all upgrades) and resigned Bozak to a good deal for both sides.

Leafs now have 3 of the top faceoff guys in the NHL with Clarkson, Bozak & McLement.

Many love the money they got Clarkson & Bozak for, but don't like the terms of Clarkson's contract. However, they were in a bidding war with Ottawa & that's the only way they were able to prevent him from playing against them instead of for them.

It'll be a piece of cake for the Wings - they're used to playing against MUCH tougher competition in the west. Also their travel schedule will be a lot easier than it was.

Buffalo will be the weakest and Detroit matches up very well with them. Montreal and Detroit should be very even games. Boston, Ottawa and Toronto will give Detroit all they can handle but should be fun games to watch.

Grabo moving on was for the best, he is a good player but does not fit Randy Carlyles style of play. It was Bozak or Grabo and the better player is still in blue and white. I wonder if he will bolt to the KHL?

Here's my prediction for the 2013-14 season:

The Leafs will make the playoffs. I believe they'll also play in the Conference Final.

The Habs & Red Wings will not make the playoffs & there will be a fire sale on trade-deadline day.

Doc, you're STILL the funniest man on the planet - it's just not FAIR that Jerry Seinfeld gets the big bucks : he can't hold a candle to you.

Hall of Fame

Shanny was robbed last year when for some reason Sundin went in instead.

Tomorrow should be the day for Shanny (a year late) as well as Chelly and Scott Niedermayer. Maybe someone else also but the first 3 are a lock.

Of course it's also a joke that Nick Lidstrom's 3 year waiting period wasn't waived - if anyone deserved automatic induction it was Nick. Oh well, at least he's a lock in 2015.

The Leafs have added some very talented players this offseason to a already maturing, young skilled team with solid goaltending and a strong physical game. Top 3 teams make the playoffs next year and 2 wild cards combined in both divisions in the eastern conference.

1.Boston
2.Toronto
3.Ottawa
4.Detroit
5.Montreal
6.Tampa
7.Buffalo
8.Florida

There you go, you heard it here first "boyz"

Thanks for posting the link to Cox's article GHG. The article brought back wonderful memories of that history-making game 7. Maybe Tom Anselmi should buy a new tie.

Hall of Fame - Take Two

As I predicted yesterday, last year's injustice was remedied as Shanny deservedly was voted into the Hall along with Chelly and Scott Niedermayer (plus Geraldine Heaney and Freddie Shero).

Two MORE Wings in the Hall (no surprise - many more to come, including the Dominator next year, Lidstrom the year after, Federov as soon as possible, and Datsyuk and Zetterberg three years after they retire - and that's not even counting Alfie and Osgood for starters). The Wings - for the last two decades - have been what the Habs used to be : a virtual FARM TEAM for the Hall of Fame! (Not to diminish the efforts of some of the many Red Wing greats of the past such as Mr. Hockey Gordie Howe, Ted Lindsay, Sid Abel, Terry Sawchuk, Alex Delvecchio, Normie Ullman, and on and on and on). Hey now that I think of it, the great Detroit Red Wings have ALWAYS been a direct path to the Hall of Fame!

C'mon cairo, even you surely do not believe Alfie goes in the HOF as a wing or because he will be a wing for a year.
