Are you kidding me? Lol this kid is a fantastic talent and has superstar written all over him, my oh my how he has grown up since he was drafted.

EB, did you see the throw he made last night from his knees to pick of a runner taking too big of a lead at second base? What a arm!!! AND Bat!!!

I saw the Sanchez throw- I saw Pudge Rodriguez make throws like that to pick off guys at 1st base, but I never saw a catcher throw from his knees to pick off a guy taking too big a lead at 2nd base.

His arm is not just a "gun", it is a machine gun!

Don't look now BOYZZZZZZZZZ but THEE NYY are the :flame: hottest :flame: team in all of MLB and just a game out of the final wild card but the way they are playing, they could still win the AL East. (NO JINX!)

Mets are hot as well, imagine another subway series in glorious NYC.

Iggy,

The video I posted encapsulates why the Yankees have the best record in baseball since August 2. August 2 is when Gary Sanchez was called up to the Yankees. He has been a highly touted player for some time and he has been in the Yankees system since he signed at age 16. He is obviously extremely talented but he is also a winning baseball player. The Rays tried to intentionally walk Sanchez. 90% of major league players getting an intentional walk throw it into relax mode and are not ready if the other team fails to execute. The Rays had a sloppy, lazy execution and left the pitch which was supposed to be an intentional ball up and way too close to the plate. Sanchez was ready for a sloppy pitch, jumped out and attacked the 52 mph lazy floater and almost parked it into the bullpen supplying his own power. He refused to accept the walk and aggressively attacked. His teammates see a play like that and they are infused with confidence the same way Derek Jeter used to make winning plays which inspired his teammates, diving into the stands and making flip throws to the plate from positions no players ever think to put themselves in. And as you mentioned Sanchez is doing it on defense as well, with snap throws from the knees to pick off baserunners who take big leads and get lazy with their attention spans.

The Rays manager later admitted he was "embarrassed" by the Sanchez RBI sac fly and didn't want to discuss. The pitcher was quoted saying the pitch "slipped" because his hands were "sweaty." It was just bad execution by the Rays and aggressive, heads up, winning baseball by Sanchez and it shows, in one play, why both teams are where they are in the standings. See this:

Gary Sanchez is the best catcher in the major leagues right now bar none.

As for the Mets in some ways what they have done is more impressive than the Yankees because of the injuries they have had. I didn't think the Mets had the roster depth to survive the injuries they have had. The Yankees' record since August 2 is partly due to the fact that they have a very deep roster and the young players give them a cushion of depth they never had in the past. I honestly don't recall the Yankees having this many good young players in their system at once. I have noticed the Yankees look fresher than some of the banged up teams they have been playing. For example Toronto and Baltimore looked a little banged up when the Yankees played them. The Mets made some good deals during the season which helped them withstand some of the injuries they had. For example the Reyes for Wright was a ballsy substitution and unfortunately I think David Wright is all done as a major league player just like Teixeira who can only play every 3 days or so because his neck and his knees hurt so much. A Subway Series like 2000 would be cool, I just want to see someone knock off the Cubs in the NL because Epstein is trying to build an empire and not a team.

Sanchez didn't do anything in the Jays series other than show he has a very accurate arm (or was he lucky?). I was left very disappointed in him. The way you guys (Yankee fans, of course!) rave about him.....geez! You almost sound like Red Sox fans when they used to rave about Iglesias and Middlebrooks came up. Or when they acquired Carl Crawford and John Lackie. Geez!

The difference is that Gary Sanchez is the real deal whereas the Red Sox you mentioned were "false prophets" who couldn't adjust after the league adjusted to them. Pitchers have not yet figured out Gary Sanchez but you can see that he is a very instinctive hitter with a smooth swing and follow through, one handed much like A-Rod. Sanchez will be an all star catcher assuming he stays healthy.

Look at the Yankees record since August 2 and the stats he amassed since then- neither are an accident. He has instilled a mania in fans and media and teammates but it's a mania with cause. Sanchez is a Manny Ramirez/Miguel Cabrera type of hitter. That is the class of hitter he is in.

Just remember, there's no Yankees player who wasn't carved from gold and ivory spun by the gods, and heaven forbid the BOYZZZ ever admit to less.

Sanchez has been simply AWESOME in almost an unparalleled way. It's scary. His minor league record shows he's a bona fide home run hitter, though the rate this year is truly obscene. It would be a grave tragedy if he ever came up unclean. We all hope he'll prove a huge asset to baseball enjoyable for all fans.

There hasn't been a captain since Derek Jeter retired. Jeter himself didn't become a captain until 2003 when he was 29 years old. Sanchez needs at least 5 more years with the Yankees but he is a VERY GOOD bet to be the next Yankees captain.

How come the Red Sox and the Yankees are the only teams with a captain? Doesn't having a captain in baseball seem a tad ridiculous?

No, the Captain in baseball is the official clubhouse leader of the team. He serves as a Moderator and an Ombudsman for the other players. The Yankees have had 15 captains with Derek Jeter being the longest serving Captain, with a captaincy tenure of 12 seasons:

You're mistaken. The Red Sox have not had a captain since 2011, and according to the info I could find the Yankees have not had one since 2014.

The idea Sanchez should be captain is silly at this point or for a number of years later. You don't make players captain for having a hot bat, no matter how hot. How embarrassing would it have been to have made a cheater like A-Rod captain for his offensive production. You make players captain because of certain proven leadership qualities, for being an example of honor, integrity, work ethic, and achievement. Jeter didn't get the title until 2003 after 8 years with the team from 1995 after earning the unquestioned respect of the team, the organization, and the fans. This is not an OH-SHIT-HE'S-GREAT title to be passed out to the flavor of the month like candy.

If the Red Sox made anyone captain again it should be Pedroia who has all of the above listed qualities having proven himself over time. But as the modest Pedroia jokes, "I'm not even the captain of my own home".

Blue Jays hire former Red Sox GM Ben Cherington

TORONTO – The Toronto Blue Jays announced the hiring of Ben Cherington as vice-president of baseball operations on Wednesday afternoon.

Other teams also held talks with the former Boston Red Sox general manager, according to sources, indicating that he’ll work with many facets of the front office’s baseball side, with an emphasis on player development.

Cherington led the Red Sox to a World Series championship in 2013, but left the organization last year after Dave Dombrowski was hired as the president of baseball operations. He then spent the spring semester teaching at Columbia University.

Dombrowski has credited Cherington’s work in helping to acquire and groom a talented young core that includes Mookie Betts, Xander Bogaerts, Jackie Bradley Jr. and Andrew Benintendi. But his moves before the 2015 season — signing free agents Hanley Ramirez and Pablo Sandoval — blew up in a failed campaign.

Cherington began his career as a baseball executive in 1998 with the Cleveland Indians as an advance scout, working under Blue Jays president Mark Shapiro’s umbrella. A year later he joined the Red Sox as an amateur scout before working his way up the front office.

Blue Jays hire Ben Cherington

Doc believes this is a good signing for the Jays. Cherington is a good baseball man & i feel he got a raw deal in Boston.

Yankees lost a 3-run lead in the bottom of the 9th last night and it literally killed their chances of getting one of the wildcards. Am i the only one who's noticed how much Betances sucks since been put in the #1 closer role??? I've always felt that he was much better off being the set-up man and let the likes of Mariano Rivera, Andrew Miller or Aroldis Chapman do their stuff. I've always found Betances to be inconsistent, wild and very lucky more often than not.

The Yankees must and will definitely make a run at signing Aroldis Chapman this off-season. But he won't come cheap and the Cubs will likely do everything in their power to re-sign him.

"THIS IS THE YANKEE'S WORST LOSS OF THE SEASON BY FAR" - John Sterling, Yankees play by play man.

Quite a statement by the guy well known for extreme, often clownish, worn out hyperbole about anything associated with the Yankees. All the more painful for the Yanks to lose by a walk off homer to a team that has been pitiful all year long when it comes to late inning comebacks. Full credit to Dellin Betances for blowing it completely, even though Chase Headley got gunned down so badly it looked on purpose.

BOOOOM!

BUCHHOLZ!!!

Was that Clay Buchholz? Clay Buchholz the emotional, disoriented, never know what will happen with him, dump this train wreck Buchholz who beat the Sanchez phenom god-like Yankees last night. Olympus Has Fallen.

U-N-B-E-L-I-E-V-A-B-L-E :)

Note:

Listening to WEEI this morning. Hearing the same Yankees fan who were lauding Girardi for taking the Yanks into contention after the trade or letting go of key players (which is fair), were blasting his management after the Red Sox huge come from behind win Thursday night (very unfair). Come on boyzzzz. Girardi did a very good job to get a team that had no business contending into a good position to do so then you dump on him after one hard loss when he lost both Chapman and Miller. Have a little more perspective. Be fair.

Some people think it could be an all THEO World Series. Eh, don't think so. With Koji back the bullpen has been much better, but the Sox have too many remaining weaknesses. If Wright were healthy and still performing as he had been then maybe.
