Great game in Detroit right now. A controversial play was correctly overturned in Detroit's favor and for the past 10 minutes or so the Red Sox announcers have been crying and whining like two babies. John Farrell has nearly blown a gasket and now coach Brian Butterfield has been thrown out of the game for mouthing too much at the umpire from the dugout, when everyone thought it was John Farrell who had been ejected.

Tigers leading after two.....

BEWARE BASEBALL FANS

As of August 22 the Red Sox as a team rank 1st in Runs 677, 1[SUP]st[/SUP]Batting Average .285, 1[SUP]st[/SUP]On Base Percentage .350, 1[SUP]st[/SUP]Slugging Percentage .468. Starting pitching had a 2.75 ERA in August after being lousy much of the year. Their weaknesses, relief pitching, clutch hitting (strange as it seems with their batting rankings), and some dumb decisions by Farrell (surprise, surprise NOT). Even Man of Clay Buchholz (trade bait) has pitched well in his last few games. and David Price has been himself in his last 3 starts.

Ortiz on his farewell tour year has MVP consideration stats with 29 HRS, .322 BA, 97 RBIs, .412 OBP, and is leading the league in SLG .635, and OPS 1.047 in 114 games.

The team only needs 20 wins out of 38 games remaining to reach 90 wins. However their last 23 games are all against division opponents.

Currently they are tied for 1st, again, with Toronto.

Good luck

MLB STAR EDWIN ENCARNACION
SUED FOR BATTERY
... STD Allegations

Toronto Blue Jays superstar Edwin Encarnacion has been sued by a woman who claims he knowingly gave her multiple STDs during a romantic weekend ... TMZ Sports has learned.

The woman behind the lawsuit claims she's a 24-year-old family friend of the MLB star who first met him in 2013.

In her lawsuit, the woman claims she hooked up with one of Edwin's teammates in 2015 -- but was tested in December 2015 at a Planned Parenthood and was told she was clean.

The woman claims she later hooked up with Edwin during a trip to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic in February 2016 ... and had unprotected sex on at least 2 occasions.

Problem is ... the woman claims she was in pain in the days after the hookup and thought she had Zika -- so she went to a doctor.
She later learned it was NOT Zika -- but rather two STDs.
The woman claims she contacted Edwin -- but he insisted he was clean and "suggested she may have picked up [the STDs] when they went 4-wheeling and she swam in the river."

The woman says Edwin later backed off his claims about being STD-free -- and then stopped contacting her altogether. The woman claims she now believes he knew he was carrying STDs all along.

The woman is suing Edwin for battery, misrepresentation of the facts and more -- and is demanding more than $11.5 MILLION to make things right.

We reached out to Edwin's agent -- who told us "no comment."

The kid is looking like the real deal and the long awaited replacement to Jorge Posada as the home grown all star catcher. Next year looks like the beginning of something magical with a full year of Bird at first, Sanchez behind the plate and Aaron Judge in right as part of the next core. The Yankees brain trust has done a wonderful job drafting the last several years.

Hamilton Released

While the Angels are probably happy they will not be paying almost $25 million for Josh Hamilton to play for the 1st place Rangers, they still might have to pay him to play for the Rangers if he makes the team out of spring training next year. I wonder if the Angels have learned their lesson about giving out bad contracts, or if it will take the last 5 years of Albert Pujols' contract for them to learn that lesson:

Andrew Benintendi

One of the Red Sox top prospects and rated in the top 20 among all minor league prospects has never played Triple A ball. I would have said slow down but he was tearing up pitching so the team brought him up. Currently he's hitting .500 in a tiny sampling. He's only played 6 major league games but the analysts love his swing and intelligence at the plate. The word is he will stay nit because he is currently hot but because the assessment of his style is he'll continue to be who he has shown to be so far.
/QUOTE]

Benintendi - I recently got to watch this guy play. He was the NC2A player of the year and as M said was tearing it up in AAA hitting .500. This kid reminds me of Fred Lynn. He hit the ball on the screws including a homer against Verlander (who is having a Cy Young caliber season.) I remember Freddie's rookie year when he had 10 RBIs in Tiger stadium in one game. Lynn had 3 homers, a triple, and a total of 5 hits and 10 RBIs one day in 1975.

Baseball Umpires
I am watching the Tigers and CB Buckner is the 1B umpire. If this guy isn't proof that affirmative action should be abolished than I don't know who is. He is a always so lost. I swear to God on a close play at first I just saw him make the Touch Down sign!!!!!

Here is a list of the 5 best and 5 worst MLB Umpires from 2014. It is 2016 and I believe that all 5 of the worst are still there and they are no better. Two of my least favorite made the list. CB and Country Joe. These guys make me long for the day when the MLB puts R2D2 behind the plate and puts these guys to work picking up trash and cleaning bathrooms. They can't be fired for some reason just like Supreme Court Jurors....wait a second...close play at first and CB Buckner calls Traveling on Cabrera and gives possession of the ball to Minnesota.

Don't forget about Clint Frazier, the top prospect who came over in the Indians trade for Andrew Miller. Frazier also has a lot of power, and we could see him in the Bronx next year along with Sanchez, Bird and Judge. The Yankees also got Justus SHeffield in that trade.

Bird, Judge, Sanchez and Frazier all have excellent power and they will put the Bomb back in the Bronx Bombers arsenal.

The Yankees' 1st round pick this year, Blake Rutherford, has looked like the early steal of the draft. He is rated now as possibly the best player taken in the draft this year and although he is only 19, could be in the majors in a couple of years. We also can't forget Jorge Mateo, who will likely have to move to another position due to Didi Gregorious totally owning shortstop at this point.

I can't remember the Yankees ever having this many good young players in the 19-24 age range.

I wouldn't get too carried away with prospects and kids performing over their heads soon after being brought up for the minors. More often than not, they can become busts. Consistency is the key in a decent major league career, not a hot streak over a few weeks. And once MLB pitchers are getting accustomed to playing against those players, things usually are different since they pitch to them differently and more carefully.

You also need pitching to win. Especially pitching. I'm not impressed with what the Yankees have on the farm in that regard. You can hit as much as you want, but deep down you won't accomplish your ultimate goals unless you have great pitching.

All these "Kids" are not kids, most are all 22 or older and have a lot of seasoning under the watchful eyes of some of the best coaches and mangers possibly down on the farm and some from the college ranks.

The Yanks have some great pitching prospect but also will have lots and lots of money to spend on free agent pitchers in another year or two.

I did not mention Frazier for next year because he will likely not get a full year in the Bronx like the other three but he should arrive sometime next year as a full time player if all goes according to plan and Mateo the following season possibly if not used as trade bait, remember we have a guy from the Cubs named Gleyber who is the future SS, again if all goes as planned. Mateo wil play 2B.

Igna,

I anticipate Castro will be traded, Gregorious will stay at shortstop and Gleyber or Mateo used at 3rd base and the other at second base. Yankees may sign a 3rd baseman for a year until Gleyber/Mateo is ready.

I don't see DiDi being unseated at SS. He is an excellent shortstop and has blossomed into a very good hitter with lefty power ideally suited for Yankees Stadium. He had a quick bat and it was only a matter of time with him. He is a very good athlete.

Castro on the other hand has serious plate discipline issues. Although a good mistake hitter, he is an easy out for a good pitcher who gets ahead in the count and then throws him some sharp sliders off the plate. He will chase. This was why the Cubs gave up on him. He will kill pitches over the plate but pitch him carefully and he is an out. These kinds of players are useless against playoff pitching.

Sanchezmania!!!!!!

Gary Sanchez now has 9 homers in his first 21 major league games, 3rd most in major league history, behind Trevor Story in 2016 and George "Boomer" Scott in 1966, who both hit 10 in their first 21 games. However I find the Story record somewhat tainted as he is playing in the thin air of Colorado where HR and BA totals are always inflated, and Boomer Scott was playing in Fenway Park, which is a kind park for a right handed power hitter.

Sanchez's 9 in 21 games stands as a purer HR total, as he has hit major bombs that would not be contained in any stadium.

I noticed that both YES and WPIX have now changed the pregame ads to highlight Sanchez and to use highlights of his tape measure homers and cat like quickness and snap throws from behind the plate. I think they know the Yankees have stumbled onto something here. Even Jack Curry has urged fans not to make hot dog runs during Sanchez's must see viewing at bats.

My question is how long can the Yankees keep a bat like that at catcher? This guy could be a Manny Ramirez/Miguel Cabrera with more power. I can see his catching skills are All Star calibre right now, but does it serve this kid well to move him out to elsewhere? He has unseated Brian McCann as starting catcher, appropriately, but maybe they can give Sanchez all the righty DH at bats to preserve his body and bat?

The Yankees have now moved Sanchez to #3 in the lineup, which obviously was going to happen sooner or later anyway.

BOYZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

The "Sanchise" did it again, another dinger from Gary Sanchez and now he is the fastest player in MLB History to hit 11 hr's out of the gate. Kid has a bright future, lets hope he stays humble and realises his talent and becomes the player the Yanks new he could be for years to come when they signed him for big $ at 16 years of age.

Don't look now but those Yankees are only 2.5 out of the second wild card with 34 games to go. The best part is if the Yanks in fact do make the playoffs is that they traded all those guys for some amazing future talent aka reloaded the farm and with huge $ coming off the books the next 2 years, the Bombers will be a WS contender for years to come. Yes this 2-3 year low was well worth it coming from this Yanks fan, yet they never ever finsihed last or near it, right bawh-stun? :pound:

GO YANKEES!

I have a feeling Gary Sanchez will be another Joe Charbonneau. He'll look like the next Babe Ruth in his rookie season, then become a tremendous bust and out of MLB within the next five years, having lost his one-time great homerun stroke.
