Ortiz on his farewell tour year has MVP consideration stats with 29 HRS, .322 BA, 97 RBIs, .412 OBP, and is leading the league in SLG .635, and OPS 1.047 in 114 games.
The AL Player of The Week continues to blast AL pitching:

Andrew Benintendi
One of the Red Sox top prospects and rated in the top 20 among all minor league prospects has never played Triple A ball. I would have said slow down but he was tearing up pitching so the team brought him up. Currently he's hitting .500 in a tiny sampling. He's only played 6 major league games but the analysts love his swing and intelligence at the plate. The word is he will stay nit because he is currently hot but because the assessment of his style is he'll continue to be who he has shown to be so far.

Benintendi - I recently got to watch this guy play. He was the NC2A player of the year and as M said was tearing it up in AAA hitting .500. This kid reminds me of Fred Lynn. He hit the ball on the screws including a homer against Verlander (who is having a Cy Young caliber season.) I remember Freddie's rookie year when he had 10 RBIs in Tiger stadium in one game. Lynn had 3 homers, a triple, and a total of 5 hits and 10 RBIs one day in 1975.
Baseball Umpires
I am watching the Tigers and CB Buckner is the 1B umpire. If this guy isn't proof that affirmative action should be abolished than I don't know who is. He is a always so lost. I swear to God on a close play at first I just saw him make the Touch Down sign!!!!!
Here is a list of the 5 best and 5 worst MLB Umpires from 2014. It is 2016 and I believe that all 5 of the worst are still there and they are no better. Two of my least favorite made the list. CB and Country Joe. These guys make me long for the day when the MLB puts R2D2 behind the plate and puts these guys to work picking up trash and cleaning bathrooms. They can't be fired for some reason just like Supreme Court Jurors....wait a second...close play at first and CB Buckner calls Traveling on Cabrera and gives possession of the ball to Minnesota.

The kid is looking like the real deal and the long awaited replacement to Jorge Posada as the home grown all star catcher. Next year looks like the beginning of something magical with a full year of Bird at first, Sanchez behind the plate and Aaron Judge in right as part of the next core. The Yankees brain trust has done a wonderful job drafting the last several years.
I wouldn't get too carried away with prospects and kids performing over their heads soon after being brought up for the minors. More often than not, they can become busts. Consistency is the key in a decent major league career, not a hot streak over a few weeks. And once MLB pitchers are getting accustomed to playing against those players, things usually are different since they pitch to them differently and more carefully.
You also need pitching to win. Especially pitching. I'm not impressed with what the Yankees have on the farm in that regard. You can hit as much as you want, but deep down you won't accomplish your ultimate goals unless you have great pitching.
Don't forget about Clint Frazier, the top prospect who came over in the Indians trade for Andrew Miller. Frazier also has a lot of power, and we could see him in the Bronx next year along with Sanchez, Bird and Judge. The Yankees also got Justus SHeffield in that trade.
Bird, Judge, Sanchez and Frazier all have excellent power and they will put the Bomb back in the Bronx Bombers arsenal.
The Yankees' 1st round pick this year, Blake Rutherford, has looked like the early steal of the draft. He is rated now as possibly the best player taken in the draft this year and although he is only 19, could be in the majors in a couple of years. We also can't forget Jorge Mateo, who will likely have to move to another position due to Didi Gregorious totally owning shortstop at this point.
I can't remember the Yankees ever having this many good young players in the 19-24 age range.
The "Sanchise" did it again,!
