CLAYTON KERSHAW. 105 Strike Outs to 5 Walks. That's 21 to 1, almost 3 times his best for a year. OMG! To go along with his 1.56 ERA and 0.646 WHIP.

His stats are totally sick.

An emergency situation has happened tonight in Baltimore, as the Yankees have had to put Rob Refsnyder at First Base due to Mark Teixeira's knee injury, Dustin Ackley's season ending shoulder surgery, Brian McCann's hyperextended knee and Carlos Beltran not being able to play first base. Beltran actually played 1B for 5 innings in a similar emergency situation in 2014, and later told the media he was "praying to God above" for the entire period, and later told the Yankees he isn't doing it again.

This leaves Refs as the only 1B option on the Yankees roster. He has never played 1B in minors or majors. Refs, in a spring training game I witnessed, was tried at 3B but took balls in the face two straight games, having to leave the game I saw with a swollen cheek. He isn't a great glove, and is best suited for OF duty, but his righthanded bat mauls lefty pitching, and I think he can rake righties as well if they would just leave him in the lineup.

The Yankees are hard hit by injuries but they just have to suck it up and play through it.

Good, Refsnyder deserves a long look with the Yanks. He has earned it. Nice to finally see "An A-BOMB! by A-Rod!!" tonight. (although it looked more like a short range missle)

Unfortunately Mark Teixera has been sent for an MRI on his right knee. It seems like a DL stint is possible, meaning Nick Swisher could very soon be called up by the Yankees from AAA to play 1B.

The Mets already picked up James Loney off the MLB First Base scrap metal junkpile, so I am not sure what other stopgaps are out there besides Swisher.

Teixera on the DL? Really?? That's rare for him, ain't it?

On another note, the Jays beat David Price & the Red Sox on a gem by R.A. Dickey, who's been fabulous over the past few weeks. Go Jays!!! :thumb:

The Orioles have now caught up to the Red Sox and share the lead in the American League East standings. The Jays are the hottest team in the league and are now only 2 1/2 games back of the leaders. The Yankees are slumping and are now 6 1/2 behind. The Rays are in last place and 8 games back.

Watch out for those Jays!! :D

I can't wait for the NHL draft in Buffalo in 3 weeks :pound:

You mean the evening where the Leafs will announce to the world their new player named Auston Matthews? :whoo: :whoo: :whoo:

p.s. This may also be the night we learn that PK Subban was traded to another team....possibly the Oilers.

Did he get traded???

Yes Doc, the Leafs will indeed announce Matthews as their new Franchise Centre. Did you notice that at the beginning of the world championships that Dylan Larkin was the go to guy but after like one game Matthews took over as the most important player on team Usa? Larkin is ok but he is no Matthews.

I read today in a NY newspaper that the Yankees are likely not going to be sellers until the trade deadline as they continue to slide in the standings. I don't believe they've ever been sellers in forty years!

I keep hearing rumours of Andrew Miller being traded, possibly to National League team based on the west coast. I'm hearing San Francisco. Many are not buying it, but let's be honest, the Yankees have an oversupply of quality relief who could be closers on most MLB teams (Betances, Miller, Chapman).

It will all depend on if the Yankees plan on re-signing Chapman. If so, there is no longer any room for a closer of Andrew Miller's stature, who would be disgruntled simply being a set-up man. And i can't see Chapman being traded for much since he's on the last year of his contract. Betances? Maybe. But he's the best right-handed pitcher in the bullpen and could close for many teams. Andrew Miller would bring them the most value right now, something the Yankees may want to do in order to build for the near future. Or should they chose to trade him now, they could get top-notch players ready to step into the lineup now and help the team get back atop the standings this season.

On another note, it's no secret that the Blue Jays wouldn't mind trading shortstop Troy Tulowitzki if they could find a trading partner. He hasn't produced offensively as expected and the Jays are winning without him in the lineup (he's out with an injury). Many people close to the team suspect he may not be happy playing in Canada and would rather play for a decent organization in his home country. Would the Yankees be interested?

The Yankees' best baseball is in front of them as Brian McCann said after the game tonight. They are better than what their record has been and they aren't panicking, nor should they. They are a 6 or 7 game winning steak away from being right in the thick of the pennant race and in early June you don't worry and make panicked trades when your team is solid and isn't going away. They would only make trades if they needed to due to injuries.

Gee Whiz Smuler. Is Fulmer pitching well. He just won again today giving up only 2 hits over 6 innings. He has not givin up a run in his last 23 1/3 innings now? You have to go back to John Hiller n 1967 to find another rookie with a longer scoreless streak. And Upton is starting to hit. See the article below:

Detroit offense explodes for Michael Fulmer, who pitches six more shutout innings at Comerica Park

Michael Fulmer could have gone further.

The right-hander could have pitched the seventh inning, and perhaps the eighth, blowing his upper-90 m.p.h. fastball past Toronto Blue Jays hitters and having them swinging out of their shoes at his wipeout slider, keeping them off-balance with his changeup.

But on this night, the Detroit Tigers offense would have none of it.

They wouldn’t mess around with Blue Jays left-hander J.A. Happ, not with the bullpen either. They would hit the ball often, and hard, and far, in an 11-0 shutout win at Comerica Park, and they would give Fulmer a much-deserved breather.

Box score
All the Tigers rookie did was what he has done in each of his past three starts: Dominate.

Fulmer allowed two hits over six innings, extending his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 22 1/3 innings, and becoming the first Tiger in history to throw three consecutive scoreless outings of six innings or more with three or fewer hits, according to Baseball-Reference.com.

Fulmer walked three and struck out five. He threw 88 pitches, 53 for strikes. The only batter to record a hit in the powerful Blue Jays lineup was Darwin Barney, who singled twice.

Fulmer was backed by an offensive explosion, starting in the fourth inning against Happ, when catcher James McCann golfed a low slider out to leftfield for a three-run home run. In the third, Justin Upton hit his fourth home run of the season, an opposite-field shot off the railing just above the fence in rightfield. In the sixth, the Tigers scored three runs on three RBI singles.

Upton went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a walk. Six players had two hits. Cameron Maybin and Ian Kinsler both delivered RBI singles. Martinez added to the onslaught with a two-run double in the eighth inning, as the Tigers set a season-high in runs.

But the story was once again Fulmer, who is making a name for himself every five days.

He hasn’t allowed a run since May 21 against the Tampa Bay Rays, which served as a coming-out party of sorts for the rookie who now finds himself squarely in the early-season discussion for American League Rookie of the Year.

Fulmer’s 22 1/3 scoreless innings streak is third-longest for a Tiger rookie, behind John Hiller’s 28 2/3 in 1967 and Victor Santos’ 25 in 2001.

Because of the blowout lead, manager Brad Ausmus was able to pull Fulmer early and called on the bullpen to pitch in low-stress situations.

Alex Wilson pitched a scoreless inning and Sanchez, in his first appearance out of the bullpen since 2014 – he was demoted last week – threw a scoreless inning.

With the win, the Tigers pull above the .500 mark on the season. They are 29-28.

Smuler...you may find this hard to believe but they do not call me to ask me what I think of moves. I would of said resign Cespedes.

However, Upton has shown signs of breaking out of his funk. 2 hits and an HR and everything he puts in play is srruck well.

I agree. He's created similar incidents single-handedly how many times? A dozen times maybe?? Time to seriously punish this fucking knucklehead!
