I practice law in the US, not Canada, but its not all that different. I've done lots of pro bono work in my career (when the hours are added up) and a lot of it was underwritten by a large international corporate law firm employing me, on behalf of groups who faced inceedible stigma and hate (mentally ill convicts, deqf people, many others. The firm also paid hundreds of thousands of expenses.
I also do a lot of pro bono work in my private practice since I left the firm, to the extent I can.
Lawyers have an ethicsl responsibility to make legal services available to underserved populations.
I would not take one person's word for it that there is no pro bono represetation for you, Julia, April, et al.
Assuming that no one would want to represent you, despite the justice of your cause, is just another example of dismissing you all as a bunch of silly hookers.
