Truth be told, all of those baseball players are overpaid. I don't know a single one who isn't.

This may be true but the Yankees cannot be singled out for overpaying Gardner when the Indians are paying Bourn almost the same amount of money for less production. As I already mentioned Mike Bourn cannot carry Gardner's jockstrao now or when he signed with the Indians. Gardner is a flat out better player.

Oh God BOYZ!

This may be true but the Yankees cannot be singled out for overpaying Gardner...

Beav...no one ever said or implied the Yankees should be singled out for bad over-paying contracts, even if they are guilty of the most egregious ones. But because one team (Cleveland) made a stupid contract with someone else it doesn't excuse the Yankees from being just as and more stupid. You wouldn't be resorting to this cheap dodge if you thought it was right to pay Gardner 3 times his previous salary. The reason Gardner is the subject here is because 3 Yankees fans are sucking down Yankee nonsense like giddy drooling fanboys.

Speaking of no improvement, Gardner is your current poster boy.

Market value??? Bullshit! Where are the suitors from other teams who pushed Gardner's market value to 3X his 2013 salary. Where??? I'm making a quick check and can't find anything but Girardi guaranteeing him a spot on the team:

https://fantasynews.cbssports.com/fantasybaseball/players/playerpage/1200052/brett-gardner

"Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner was surprised when the team went out and signed Jacoby Ellsbury, but he's not worried about his job, according to the Star-Ledger.

Gardner spoke with manager Joe Girardi in late December, who told him he had a spot on the team, though it will likely be in left field."

Drew was way overpaid, so was Victorino but at least his timing for big clutch hits during the season and the Series was unbelievable. Gardner is an average commodity with a decent OBP. That's not worth $13 million, and definitely not a nearly 300% pay hike in one year. Anyone who thinks that is fair market value for the stats he put up in 2013, which were no better than two previous years at the same relative length at $5.6 million or less, defines...especially delusional.

At least the Red Sox have gone away from idiotic farm team destroying contracts. The Yankees never learn.

Cheers,

I totally agree. Many teams such as the Red Sox, Dodgers & Angels are as worse as the Yankees when it comes to grossly overpaying a player. The Yankees are definitely NOT in a league of their own when it comes to overpaying ballplayers.

 BOYZ!

Personally, i could care less what the Yankees pay any of their players. The Yankee brand makes more than any other teams so why should their payroll not reflect that? They want to WIN and it shows by doing what is best for business. They saw revenue go south last season in ticket sales, merchandise sales and tv revenue and will be damned if that happens next season and they went out and did something about it. They are a top business model for anyone in the world to follow. You have to spend it to make it, and this offseason, THEY DID.

OMG BOY,

This is the most IDIOTIC point of view a fan can take. What 90% of the above says is you are a fan of how much money the team makes in profits. It's totally ridiculous. If we sports fans followed this nonsensical view we should all go to stadiums to watch the Fortune 500 companies make money and go wild over their profits, of which we benefit nothing. They aren't building 50,000 seat stadiums around the stock exchange floor, they build them around sports teams hoping to see great teams possibly win the Series, not watch Steinbrenner get richer. That's the FAILURE of your view. They makes tons of money but DON'T win, and you take it in the face.

Now if you really get a hard-on over how much money the Yankees make, despite their failures on the field, then to each his own. It sure explains a lot about you being a Leafs fan and their big profits versus constant losing.

BOYZZZ! :thumb: :D

Hahaha, now THIS is priceless! You do realize that FSU is a college team, Beav??? OMG, raving about shutting a college team out for 2 innings. I thought I'd seen it all.

You have to walk before you can run! BTW Florida State is a top USA college baseball team and legit threat to win the national championship, with more than a few future MLB draft picks on their team, including Winston. While other major league teams (like the Red Sox playing college baseball weaklings like Northeastern and BC and the Tigers playing Florida Southern), the Yankees are playing the best of the best of college baseball!

Meanwhile, Tanaka will pitch 2 innings Saturday vs. the Phillies:

You're nuts. Are these guys even Single-A professional prospects. We know the Red Sox play college teams but we Sox fans aren't crazy to boast..."do not count out this crafty little lefthander with the masterful changeup"...because our pitchers beat these amateur practice chumps in just 2 innings as if they were MLB star phenoms.

Does he really think the world is full of Joe.ts and Iggys who will suck down anything with a pinstripe connection. If the subject was a Sox prospect he'd call his comment laughable. But as a Yankee he's instantly worth $10-20 million.

Ivan Nova Leader of Grantland's "Next Step Brigade"

http://grantland.com/features/mlb-2014-breakout-candidates-ivan-nova-danny-salazar/

The Next-Step Brigade

"Ivan Nova, SP, New York Yankees: I’ve been obsessing over Nova’s quirky stat lines for a while now. The 16-4 record he posted in 2011 was spectacularly lucky, buoyed by strong run support and, to a lesser extent, a relatively mild home run–per–fly ball rate for a right-handed pitcher at Yankee Stadium. Those factors combined to override a flaccid strikeout rate and a slightly generous walk rate. The next year, Nova missed a lot more bats, but he also gave up more than twice as many homers, resulting in an ugly 5.02 ERA.

In 2013, everything came together. He fanned nearly three batters for every one walk, induced more whiffs than ever before, and was stingier with the long ball — partly due to another low HR/FB ratio, but also thanks to a career-high 53.5 percent ground ball rate. Even then, however, things weren’t quite perfect: Nova got hurt and made just 20 starts, his lowest total in three years. I get the sense he’s going to put up a 32-start season sometime soon, though, and if that happens, many of his indicators point to a potential breakout campaign. If Vegas had a Nova vs. Masahiro Tanaka bet for 2014, with odds in Nova’s favor, it’d be worth serious consideration."

I expect big things from Nova this season. Was decently consistent in the 16-4 season, then a horrible sophmore season and last year took major strides. I actually expect more out of him than Pineda this coming season. :thumb:

Yankee scouts are gushing over his base stealing potential and the word is Da Beav is already drooling over the newest Yankee prospect. But will EB be able to look past the pinstripes to notice there might be a problem batting.

Iggy says: " it's only money, spare no expense."

 Brian McCann smashed his first homer as a NY Yankee today and the next stud Yankee home grown talent, Mark Montgomery pitched a scoreless inning and could be a huge piece to the bullpen this season and beyond.
