Yankees have moved up to 3rd in team ERA pitching in the AL and 4th overall in the majors, it might be even higher tomorrow once Nova and the boy's "LIGHTS OUT" performance today gets factored in, the season is really shaping up to be a special one, meanwhile the Red Sox are wwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay at the bottom in team pitching(not looking good at all for them), I'm also really happy for Jeter, it looks like he is going out with a bang(Championship).

You know K, that's not a bad idea, the odds of this happening have increased in Vegas, the Yankees started the off season behind the Red Sox and now have moved ahead of them, they are now one of the favorites to win it all, this is not me saying this it is the gambling experts in Vegas.

Why is that we only get pitching lines and updates about the Yankee pitching staff when they pitch well but when they suck dick....................

The truth is not too much dick has been sucked by Yankees hurlers this spring. The Yankees pitching has been outstanding. Pineda, Phelps, Tanaka, and Nova have all been lights out. CC Sabathia and Kuroda have been OK. Kuroda had the only really bad start all spring, and yet even that outing was not as bad as the moose-ball sucking performance turned in by Felix Doubront yesterday, who was horseshit facing a Yankees lineup which was not fully stacked.

I believe that the Yankees pitching is going to be very good. The problem the team has is at 2B/SS/3B and health and depth at those positions. Girardi has shown an ability to patch together leaky parts on a team. No team ever that won the World Series had a worse bullpen than the Yankees did in April 2009, yet Girardi and Cashman tore that fucker down, released about 5 guys, and rebuilt the bullpen in 2-3 months. I have complete trust that they will figure out the depth issues at these positions and make trades if needed. I would also note that the Yankees head into the season with 5 quality starters, and 2 others waiting in the wings, Phelps (in the bullpen) and Nuno (likely to be sent to AAA where he can be stretched out). If someone in the starting rotation goes down, there is help on the major league roster.

You're starting to get seriously delusional Beav. You think CC's been OK??? Really? He's had one half decent outing and has been a complete dick sucker in every other one!!! Whatever though, keep up your SPRING TRAINING WORLD SERIES DREAMS. I'll wait until the real deal starts next week and see how your gang of the oldest players in the league will fair.

Half decent? 5 IP of no hit ball is decent? Seems LIGHTS OUT to me (sorry Joe, it was too easy to steal your patented remark!) :D

CC Sabathia has been experimenting with a cut fastball and some other pitch that Andy Pettite taught him. That is what spring training is for, experiments with new pitches and changing one's repertoire. I have also heard reports that Tanaka, who has a 1.93 ERA so far, is not unveiling his full repertoire of pitches and is saving that for the regular season. He already knows what his best pitches are and has been working on his secondary pitches. The pitching coaches, including Guest instructors Ron Guidry and Goose Gossage, are there to help these guys improve their repertoires and work on refining some of their pitches and adding new ones. If you look at Nova, when he came up with the Yankees at first he looked like a solid prospect except he could not strike anyone out. His K totals have increased dramatically and it is because he has gotten stronger, he has improved his mechanics and has learned how to use his long arms and huge hands. His slider has become a devastating pitch.

The crisp pitching we have seen this spring is hard to ignore, and we should not ignore it just because Special K says we should. It is evident that the Yankees go 7 deep in quality starting pitchers. Phelps and Nuno would be back end rotation starters on just about every other major league team. On this team, they are forced to wait in the wings. It is not really fair, but it is what it is. And a lot of other teams are very envious of what it is.

To see the Yankees up there with the likes of Detroit and Tampa Bay, the teams you expect to be on top in the AL pitching stats, is really impressive.

Isnt Nova the guy who one former poster said was a career Scanton Yankee at best? Isnt Nova the guy that i said from day one had a world of talent and just needed to "learn" how to use it correctly and refine his game?

Yes the Yanks pitching (all of it, not just the starters) looks great and all have impressed at one time or another this spring and many on several occasions and the season like i said previously could shape up to be a special one in the boogie down Bronx as long as injuries like last season dont crush the team again.

I just have to say that it sure is nice how this thread has finally evolved into a great thread to exchange info and stories back and forth w/o all the name calling, personal insults and silly innuendo's everyday. Small changes make the biggest differences sometimes.

Watching the Yanks/sox preseason game now and Mike Mussina is lights out tonight! Ok, ok so it is really David Phelps but he reminds me (and looks like) of a young Mussina out there on the mound. Frankie Cervelli with another BOMB this spring. I always liked Cervelli for mainly his hustle and loyalty to the Yankee Orginization and with McCann/Cervelli the Yanks have got to have one of the best one-two punches at the C position in the majors this season. Really excited to see this team break camp next week and head to Houston for April 1.

Mr.T, going to the Big O next weekend for the Jays/Mets? Anyone else?

Iggy,

I think Cervelli is going to get traded and Romine will be the backup catcher, just a hunch, although Cervelli has looked great this spring and he looked great early last year before he broke his hand.
