This news is not good for Connecticut. Positivity rate has spiked to 18% and hospitalizations are surging:
Pedro Mendes, director of UConn Health’s Center for Cell Analysis and Modeling, said: “This is really a big wave coming. My preliminary forecasts indicate that the peak of hospitalizations might be higher than January 2021, maybe getting close to April 2020. This is a good time for people to wear N95 masks indoors and get boosters.”
Kevin Dieckhaus, chief of UConn Health’s Division of Infectious Diseases, was in the middle of rounds Wednesday evening. “It’s going to be a long night,” he said. “This is kind of reminiscent of the bad old days.”
Dieckhaus said the latest surge “does have some elements of what we were dealing with early in the pandemic,” though there are differences.
