... herd immunity means that at least 60% of populations gest the virus.

Reading about the UK situation, I saw that nobody knows if getting the virus once means you can't get it again. So 60% of the population getting infected could mean something very different than herd immunity.

The infected organism must develop the ability to fight the virus (immune response) as otherwise it is dead. The question how long natural immunity may last. Professionals argue that a few months is the shortest term. If this is true, the vaccine would not give us the long-term immunity either. The virus can also mutate and the vaccine can become ineffective as with many types of flu.

What I consider to be more worrisome and more dangerous then COVID-19 is the collapse of the economy that all this paranoia is causing.

Perhaps they should be playing it up even more, maybe that will get people’s thick heads to isolate themselves and not spread this shit instead of going to bars and partying.
You won’t have to worry about the economy if you are dead that is a certainty.
People see what is going on in Italy and Spain and France and still think the economy is what you need to worry about.
Wonder if some of these guys have parents or grandparents and who the fuck raised them if they care so little about them.

I know my kids have me basically locked up in my home with their grandmother, and they don’t want either of us going anywhere they say just face time and whatever you need we will drop it off at your door, but stay home.

According to CBC:
Canada and the United States are finalizing a deal to close their shared border to non-essential travel — an extraordinary measure designed to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Multiple sources with direct knowledge of the talks say the details are still being worked out, and could be announced as early as Wednesday.

Once finalized, the agreement, which is mutual, would close the border to tourists and shoppers while still allowing Canadians to return home. The final deal is expected to allow some commercial traffic to continue to keep critical supply chains intact ....

https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/canada-us-border-1.5501201

I can’t recall the last time that the Canada-US border has had such restrictions. Life as we know it is going to change drastically. Unfortunately it’s just going to get worse for quite some time. Best for all of us to start changing our mindsets & expectations. Wash your hands & stay safe.

P.S. Anyone who has N95 face masks, should donate them to your local hospitals. Seriously, you do not need an N95 mask (it’s hard to breathe in them & require some training) but yr local doctors & nurses do. If they fall ill or die, there’s going to be no one left to take care of us!!!

Patron, around 7 days ago you asked me what steps I would take. My answer on post 467 was was drastic measures at that time like seal the border, test all care givers and first responders, and quarantines most people especially the vulnerable. That has come to pass in most of Europe and the US and Canada over the past 3 o 4 days...………. but it should have been done 2 to 3 weeks ago.
Now apart from sounding like a Rand Paul , you haven`t told us what you would do.

Yea the lines over the weekend @ airports was unacceptable. Guaranteed a good amount of those in line contracted it.

the imperial college paper looked @ herd immunity and said it still would cause a surge capacity and made their recommendations to Borris and USA.

"We've done a fantastic job," he said Tuesday of his administration's response to the coronavirus pandemic. "The only thing we haven't done well is to get good press. We've done a fantastic job but it hasn't been appreciated. Even the closing down of the borders, which had never been done, and not only did we close them but we closed it early. The press doesn't like writing about it."

Can anyone agree to such a loser? Every time i think he’s done the worst i could think of he comes up with worst. Trump wake up its only day 2 or 3... What will you say in 5-6 if the shit really hits the fan?? Please wait a bit before self congratulations.

Meanwhile in quebec our PM ask young internet influencer to help spread the message to isolate. And it had great response. And he did not need to say he’s good because there is no need for it.

During a momentary fit of madness I was all for the herd immunity thing. Two big problems 20% of the infected population would need hospital care and that would collapse our health care system. Don`t forget that its not just the over 65`s who are vulnerable and may die, but also 3 year olds with asthma ….20 year olds with COPD....30 year old pregnant women and those that have been scarred by pneumonia and cancer....many diabetics too.

Worst than that is the unknown.....immunity . Will it be for a few weeks like most colds or for months and years. Will it go dormant like cold sores and pop back up once in a while, or will it come back in a different form like shingles does. One thing level headed minds agree on is that we need more time to figure all this out but in the meantime all efforts should be taken to mitigate the fall out.

Perhaps we should put all the elderly and the sick on barges and float them out to sea.
Or if we want to be kinder on cruise ships

That should free up the hospitals for the young and healthy and protect the economy and within weeks everybody can get back to calling their favourite agency.

Nothing like being pro active why wait for the virus to take its time and create misery for everyone.

Perhaps introducing a weekly purge on the elderly like in the movie, would not only achieve the same but would be entertaining and allow the use of all those guns that everybody is hanging on to.

Fradi you are funny.

I just broke my 4 day self isolation and went out for a 30 minute walk. Traffic was liter than usual and strip mall parking was half empty. Interestingly the SAQ had almost as many cars parked in front as the local drug store.

U.S. academic parses the Imperial College Report on Covid-19, which is the basis for these extreme actions taken by governments:

https://twitter.com/jeremycyoung/status/1239975682643357696?s=09

Excerpt:

Suppression works! The death rate in the US peaks 3 weeks from now at a few thousand deaths, then goes down. We hit but don't exceed the number of available ventilators. The nightmarish death tolls from the rest of the study disappear.

But here's the catch: if we EVER relax suppression before a vaccine is administered to the entire population, COVID-19 comes right back and kills millions of Americans in a few months, the same as before.

This is what I said in the post 992, before this report. But the depressed and destroyed economy would kill probably more people than the virus ever will.

Of all these news a good one is #6. Seeing how it's unfolding in China is a big relief.

yeah - I've read those reports too - but its China......and they have such a great reputation for accurate, truthful and honest, free reporting...with no government interference. Oh, hang on...….lol
The jury is out, I think until independent W.H.O. assesses it.

keep safe everyone
