Unfortunately Covid-19 Sequela/After Effects is an often overlooked aspect. A significant percentage of Covid-19 patients (15%) go on to suffer serious problems. 41-year old actor Nick Cordero suffered a leg amputation b/c of Covid-19; his son just turned one recently.

The sequelae have been worrying me for a while. People aren't paying attention to the fact that this tends to be mild or it turns brutal. If it goes bad, it goes very bad, even if it doesn't kill you.

Most people don’t care or want to hear about Covid-19 anymore so the 2nd wave will be so much worse because there’s simply no more resolve for another shutdown regardless of how bad things get

Most pandemics end socially. In Canada it looks like we at least want it tamped down. The US is cruising to just accepting a new basic higher death rate as background noise.

Tragic but true. Background noise is an accurate depiction of the overall US approach to coronavirus deaths. At a daily coronavirus death rate of 1000/day, the US may have over 300,000 deaths by year end. Assuming a 1% fatality rate & 10% Sequelae, that’s also 3 million people w/ serious long term problems.

I think Trudeau meant to say he needs to protect Canadians from Americans Ironically, more nations will likely bar Americans from entry -- we Americans are radioactive

It looks like it will be closed for a long, long time. It seems the Trump administration’s answer to the question how many deaths are acceptable is “Sky is the limit”. The media was reporting on all the cops shooting black guys in the back because they couldn’t catch up with them as they ran away so Covid has been taking not a back seat, but stowed away in the trunk, but all these new cases poppin in up in places like Texas are hard to ignore

A prudent measure. Citizens of Vermont (1,128 cases / 55 deaths as of today), New Hampshire (5,345 / 320) and Maine (2,819 / 101) ought to be kept safe from their Québécois neighbours (54,054 / 5,242).

When I see how the crisis is managed in the USA it reassures me. Luckily, not all governors act as their President.

The NY state numbers (405,705 / 30,980) are indeed horrendous (speaking of governors), but the vast majority of those cases are of course in NY city, nowhere close to Canada. So, again, the residents of upstate NY ought to be kept safe from their Québécois neighbours.

I haven’t been to Montreal since October, and I doubt I’ll be making my usual August pilgrimage. Short of a vaccine, do any of you REALLY think the border will open this year AND that any trip from the US to Montreal could include a visit to a restaurant or pub? My gut tells me short of a vaccine the chances are close to 0%. And then there’s that second wave potential....

I tend to agree with you, Robert. I don't feel very optimistic about the border opening back up until we have a vaccine, which sucks It is probably the right decision, but it is still a huge bummer. I miss Montreal . . . .

Thanks for the gut check, Punky. Appreciate it. August and the fall especially won’t be the same without a Montreal visit. Even IF the border opens up, I wouldn’t feel comfortable visiting unless I knew I could visit McLeans Pub or Winnie’s, see live music at Hurley’s, go for a run or bike ride and just freely walk around. I sense such a weekend getaway is a long way off. Sitting in a hotel room is not my thing even if border and Euphoria are open.

I have been watching Europe to see about borders and they have opened them for intercontinental travel. I thought the US/Canada border would be opening up this month and I would have thought so if it was if it wasn’t for the protests and lootings. My guess now would be August. Canada is loosing mucho coin from American tourists but they are playing it smart by taking it slow.

Same here. I was (sort of) surprised that they decided to extend the closure, but I think it is for the last time. Although if they keep insisting on a quarantine for all visitors, that will be equally useless as far as tourism is concerned.

Not sure if August will even be in the picture? Hope it does, but doubt it. #’s r goin up boys, not just cases, but hospitalizations? That’s all the shit from the long weekend @ end of May in the states. These protests, riots and Trump rallies are gonna be even worse. Justin’s gonna def impose a 14 day quarantine even on the off chance he lets u in.

A 14 day quarantine makes a Montreal visit absolutely useless, as does not being able to venture out to bars and restaurants, or even the casino.

And I wonder about the level of grilling from US Customs on way back into states, including fruitless and silly secondary inspections. Obviously we know how to handle process relative to phones, etc, but one is left to wonder about the hassle.
