There isn't such a thing as a "purpose" for a virus.
I used "purpose" for the mutation not the virus. You are right though....I used the wrong word and should have used" outcome'.

And here I thought that you believed that the All mighty was punishing mankind`s abuse of nature with this tiny partial alive bug.

Freedom unfortunately is a casualty but this is really a horse race between science and nature.
There will have to be a booster shot next year against new variants and then probably a jab every year after just like flu shots. Get used to it life will never be the same again.
Silver lining is that masks are not only effective against covid19, but also allergies, lung damage from pollutants. colds and the common flu.

No, I thought the borders would be open by end of May and we would be able to come back. I never expected this to go south for the Canadians like it has.

This article says there could be a 600% increase in cases in Ontario by June. This is completely ridiculous, and out of control:
CBC radio reported that based on present models .....Ontario will go from 4000 cases a day now, to 18, 000 cases a day by the end of May. There is evidence that Brazil`s new variants could re-infect those who`ve already had Covid19 . Another notch on bitch bolsonaro`s belt .

I just texted 2 of my local American friends who were hoping for me to organize an escort party in Montreal early September about what's going in with Covid in Canada. I told them it's now looking like 2022 for the party. They are shocked and upset and do not understand why the situation is what it is, and asked me questions about JT's leadership and whether it has been effective. They, like me, thought Canada would be slowly emerging into post Covid protocols like we are in CT. They had a lot of questions that I could not answer. I told them I do not really know what is going on except that Ontario seems to be the worst hit and it will likely spill into Quebec, unless the provinces start to close their borders to each other.

If everyone is wearing masks, social distancing, staying at home after 8 pm this either goes to show you that it could of been a lot worse without all those measures or none of it really did shit. IMHO the only reason the US isn’t in full crisis mode now is because we are racing the virus with vaccinations. For now it seems to be working, but only time will tell. I hope things get better in Canada real soon.

...to go better in CANADA ONTARIO will have to do better---particulièrement in TORONTO and PEEL region--- IMHO a complete lockdown---sauf pour les services essentiels--and curfew for at least ONE MONTH aideraient à ralentir la vague qui les secoue durement en ce moment...et qui à court terme risque à coup sûr de toucher aussi le Québec.

From what I am reading all the measures Quebec is taking over and over again ( the most drastic in Canada ) is not working.

What do they say, something about doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Unfortunately I think you are right that lockdowns are going to be the only way to slow things down if you can't get enough people vaccinated. You would like to be able to trust citizens to do the right things as far as preventing the spread of Covid, but when they have proven again and again that they either haven't, can't or won't, there is no choice but to lock their asses down. I think if it were not for the vaccination race partially being won over Covid (especially where I live in CT), the USA would be in the same situation. It's unfortunate that this has to happen, but the writing is on the wall and you have to smell the coffee and inhale pretty deeply at this point. The alternative is overwhelmed hospitals, many deaths, and sick Canadian refugees illegally crossing the border, calling Uber, and getting taken to United States hospitals for ventilator treatment they cannot wait for in Canada, which is a situation many here would find unacceptable. I have already warned some friends who live near the border that this could happen.
