The COVID-19 pandemic appears to have halted a more than decade-long increase in life expectancy, according to global mortality data that showed decreases in 2020 in 31 out of 37 high-income countries.

Russia, the US, and Bulgaria had the largest declines in life expectancy when the authors compared real 2020 mortality data with estimated 2020 life expectancy based on 2005-2019 trends. Men experienced the greatest losses with a 2.33-year reduction in Russia, a 2.27-year drop in the US, and a 1.96-year decrease in Bulgaria. Russian women experienced a 2.14-year decline in life expectancy, while US women lost about a year and a half and Bulgarian women lost about a year and one-third.

Yeah, as usual, misleading in the sense that they try to insinuate that the death are due to the virus without making it super clear, especially since they know that it is not. Life expectancy has increased despite the pandemic. Now, the trend is maybe lower, but it is clear that it is not directly the result of the virus, but also other factors such as stress, anxiety, and any other consequences that were caused by the situation of COVID( more drinking, drogue, job losses, etc..). The fact that they counted all COVID positive people that have died as death caused by the Virus, renders those stats, at best, questionable. Heart attack can be caused by fear or anxiety. Most old people when tested positive, do react with fear and anxiety.
You can focus on the negative side if you want, but the fact that life expectancy, and population growth remains positive despite all that madness, i believe that it is a clear indication that the Virus danger was super inflated.

Exactly. They manipulate the data. Another thing I noticed is I suspect they are inventing cases, how can there be so many cases when testing clinics are closed. When someone dies and they have covid, it gets counted as a covid death regardless if they died of something else. When the media want to sensationalize a covid death, they post someone like a celebrity on the news and state they died of covid but when you dig deeper they actually died of covid complication which means they had other health conditions and died of that but covid made it complicated or accelerated it. But the way the post it makes people think covid was the cause of death. It is politically hijacked to have that effect.

You obviously know better than the peer reviewed articles in the the Journal of the American medical association.

I think more people with logic similar to yours should follow your medical advice and leave the less qualified doctors to the rest of us. A solution to two of societies problems

That is just unfuckingbelievable.

Covid is everywhere. What could this possibly accomplish?

It traps people who test positive in Canada. And there could be many of them, given that more people are walking around with Covid than ever before, often with no symptoms as a result of vaccinations or prior infection.

What good could that possibly accomplish?

”Nearly half of nationwide sewage testing sites reported COVID levels at 60% to 100% of their all-time high as of this week, according to CDC data.”
I use the logic, if it is no big deal to do it then it is no big deal to not do it. Your guess is as good of mine. Trudeau is power hungry. It is for the sake of power and control. That is why I call it authoritarian because it is not to protect or to help, it is just a tactic to control. This is politically motivated. But in Canada we got many loyal Liberal voters that will applaud Trudeau for doing this, they support authoritarianism. Government says, I obey is their moto.

Medical Advice? You want to discredit my opinion by inventing things?
I have never given a medical advice. But always claiming things that do not exist, or not done, is part of the way YOU think. I question things, listen to different point of views, then try to make up an opinion. The fact that someone is labeled an expert does not dumb fascinate me, I will still question him, especially if other experts, in the same field have a different opinion. You follow the ones most institutionalized, and covered by the media. My conclusions are not advices. When the population growth is still positive, you find that alarming? Wasn't my thread originally directed to that? If this Virus was super dangerous, and requires that everyone be vaccinated, multiple times, to survive it, and no one is safe until everyone is safe, and all we have been bombarded with in the media, and then you discover that population has always been growing, you find that a logical outcome?

I did not discredit your opinion. You specifically said "Covid did not decrease life expectancy", I showed you a scientific document in a medical journal (not media) that said it does.

Just trying to stop misinformation. Glad I could help

Around the corner
Trudeau cannot resist, as of July 19 will be the return of random testing for covid 19 at Canadian airports. With all the chaos this is more needless red tape. Such things will not do anything to protect people it will just make peoples lives miserable and cause prices to go even higher. However thousands of refugees cross Roxham Rd daily and do not need to be vaccinated to enter.

This is the stupidest thing ever.
WTF does random testing achieve anyway you test one out of every 20 or 50 how many are likely to have Covid and how many of the people you don’t test have it.
Only an Idiot like Trudeau can come up with something as stupid as this.
There is no logic to this at all.
As mentioned above it will just make people miserable, angry, and cause more chaos and confusion.

Apparently if test is positive you have to isolate for 10 days yet nurses and teachers when testing positive have to be back at work after 5 how the fuck does this make sense to anyone except a politician or our Prime Minister.
Bring back the Truckers so this asshole can claim he has covid again and go hide in his bunker.

THE CANADIAN PRESS:

Statistics Canada confirms that beyond the phenomena of population growth and aging of the population, the COVID-19 pandemic had a considerable impact on mortality in Canada in 2020, contributing to the largest annual decline in life expectancy in the country since 1921.

What makes you so sure you are doing that? Just google life expectancy in russia and see how many claims they have increased. Most claims a 0.19 percent increase, few goes up to 0.58 percent. So excuse me if i do not believe the one you shared. Medical experts ( good ones), are not all in agreement, so there is room for discussions on the scientific level. I am no doctor, so I do not go into medical stuff. However, logic is something anyone can use. Sometimes, being outside of the field allows better questions.
My question remains. How is it logical that such a terrible Threat to life did not stop its growth on both levels, population and life expectancy? Most logical conclusion is that the threat was not that big and was inflated (not to be confused with a medical advice).

Life expectancy is still increasing. The rate has lowered, but the growth is still positive. The impact on the decline in the GROWTH RATE (means positive not negative), is attributed to COVID, but that is doubtful for the reasons i already mentioned above.

Just google life expectancy in russia and see how many claims they have increased.

Take the time to read the underlying report
A little more detailed than what you'll get by a google

Population can grow and life expectancy drop. The two are different things. You said "life expectancy did not drop". I showed you data that shows that's wrong, but willing to look at anything you have that says it's true.

Unless it's simply your opinion that "it didn't do anything to life expectancy"

You can find many more, and they all state that life expectancy has grown. It is pretty obvious that life expectancy and population growth are a fact.

Main outcome measures Reduction in life expectancy was estimated as the difference between observed and expected life expectancy in 2020 using the Lee-Carter model. Excess years of life lost were estimated as the difference between the observed and expected years of life lost in 2020 using the World Health Organization standard life table.
This is the definition from the article on what the study is about.
It clearly specifies that it is the difference between observed and expected. So it is not a general value as to positive or negative to previous, but to expected. The negative difference to expected is to be blamed on COVID. This is again a manipulation. This study wants to give the idea that it is in decline as a general value, while in truth, it is simply a decline from expected values. And again, COVID is blamed, even though, it has become common knowledge that some cases should not have been claimed as COVID.
Regardless, the general values is still a positive one.

Ouch! Did not see that. However, it does raise an eyebrow. Why aren't the values computed. It is not like the databases are not available. The count is still on, so they should be able to integrate it. Maybe because the difference will be marginal? I tried many other searches, there is not a single source that uses any other thing than projections (even the study you posted, since it is actual vs expected, which is based on projections). Therefore, and since no single claim is made that life expectancy has actually shrunk, it is safe to assume that it has indeed increased in absolute value.

If you could, walk me through BA.5. There’s a lot being written about it now, and much of it ominous.

The BA.5 looks like it is the most highly transmissible virus agent we’ve seen of the COVID-19 family so far. Maybe more so than omicron. How much of that is due to transmissibility versus immune escape is up for scientific debate. But there’s no question right now, even if you’re fully vaccinated, you’re at risk of infection. We’re seeing a steep increase in the number of cases.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention put out data for May, and it clearly shows if you’re over the age of 50, there’s a big difference whether you’re unvaccinated, partially vaccinated – meaning one to two doses – and vaccinated and boosted one time or two times. People are not dying if they’re vaccinated and boosted times two. If you’re not boosted, risk for hospitalization goes up.

What I’m telling people: The most impactful thing you can do to protect yourself and your family is to be mindful of your vaccine status. Take advantage of what’s available. The next most important thing to do with the transmission going on indoors is to wear a mask. Boy, that’s been a tough sell, though.

Contracting COVID-19 radically changed Tracey Thompson’s life. It’s been more than two years since the initial infection, but her symptoms still dictate her days, leaving her with heavy-weighted fatigue, robbing her of energy and her ability to work.

Thompson, a Toronto resident in her 50s, says the enduring illness and lack of substantive financial support has led her to begin the process of applying for Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD), a procedure that first became legal in Canada in 2016.

“[MAiD] is exclusively a financial consideration,” she told CTV News Toronto.

After 26 months of lost income since the onset of symptoms, no foreseeable ability to work and an absence of support, Thompson said she expects to run out of money in about five months.

“My choices are basically to die slowly and painfully, or quickly. Those are the options that are left,” she said.

In addition to severe fatigue, Thompson lists a number of symptoms she’s developed from long COVID: she can no longer read books or text longer than a Tweet. Her vision usually begins to blur around sunset. It’s difficult for her to digest food. Her taste and smell have been altered. Some days, the oxygen exchange in her lungs is compromised, making it difficult to breathe. Scars mark her heart from the swelling she experienced from myocarditis.
