Just buy a counterfeit detector pen in bureau en gros or on the internet. You do a line on the bill, if the line is invisible the bill is good. If it turns dark brown it is counterfeit.

Probably awkward to have a client standing there while you verify their bills.

Although the ladies could handcuff the guys to the bed beforehand and tell them it is a kinky game. Guys are so stupid they would say Sounds like fun, let's Do it!!!

The savvy escort will take the money, excuse herself to "freshen up" in the bathroom, then whip out the counterfeit pen and verify.

The problem is if it comes back dark brown. Does she then confront the client, and refuse the client and his funny money? What if it is a false positive, and the money is actually good? What if the client is acting in good faith and someone else passed him the bad money? What if the client is indeed the counterfeiter, and once the "jig is up", and his criminal enterprise is exposed, he gets nervous and suddenly becomes violent, takes out a pistol, and pistol whips or shoots the escort?

Hello all,

It is all in the paper, it the paper is smooth, then take a close look. I suspect these are computer printer fakes.

If you mean American money you mean cotton, some nylon, and more.

What if it is a false positive, and the money is actually good?

What if the escort goes to the bathroom, carries a wad of her own counterfeit money, replaces your money with the funny stuff and uses it to bilk clients for an equal replacement.

I was staying out of this thread because I thought everything was covered. I hope Beav was kidding in his last post, but if not then people are reaching into their deepest paranoia and now the best answer has become...either the hobby is much too risky, get out while you can...or...some are getting nuts. If people are going to concoct every possibility then they are too paranoid to be in Montreal.

But you were just trying to make a point about how silly this is getting...right Beav. ;)

Seriously, since 2001 no escort or agency has refused American money. A few years ago one agency said the rate would be slightly higher to make up the exchange difference, but otherwise there was NO problem. Only once since I have been going to Montreal has any business in the city refused American money. I moved on.

Here's to sanity...gentlemen,

PS

The new Canadian money may be safer but it looks and feels like crap.

My point was that if an escort seriously ran with the suggestion to use a counterfeit pen, there could be some issues.

I actually don't know what the success rate is of those counterfeit pens. They are routinely used by cashiers at Stop & Shop, Big Y and Whole Foods Market. Nobody ever told me one of my Franklins was bad. I only have seen them used to examine $100 bills.

The only fake 20 (canadian) I got was from my own bank ATM...very frustrating...
There a very interesting story in the latest edition of GQ explaining how they make american money (from old jeans ! 100% cotton ,no lycra loll) and all the safety features...

How is individual indy policy 'open to debate', or any of your concern? If we want to accept USD, that's our perogative. Did it ever occur to you that some of us actually have a brain on our shoulders and can make the distinction between counterfeit and real? You see, some of us have other life experiences aside from being stupid SPs. Some of us have worked in businesses that involve hard cash transactions and have been trained to look for the security features on Canadian and American bills. Some of us haven't - true, but threads like these (you are right, this isn't the first - or last - one) still serve an educational purpose, as illustrated in posts 6 and 8 (neither of which you authored). Further, where in my posts did you ever see me - or any other indy in this thread - praising anyone? Don't be so heavy on the hyperbole, Beav. If you want to come over here and judge us on how we run our business, consider resigning from your law firm job and opening up an indy advising firm. Till then, your thoughts on how I should run my affairs are about as important to me as my thoughts on how you should be a good lawyer are to you.
Well my dear Sid...I love your answer and your spunk!! And I do accept american money also as I have lots of american clients! I have seen more canadian false money then american so the issue here is just to be alert on the money we receive! american or canadian!

And the primary reason for change is exactly what was discussed earlier in the thread - that the $100 USD is easier to counterfeit than other currency. The new bills are supposed to be harder to replicate by counterfeiters.

i didn't read the whole thread but yeah US$ i think are still paper made, when our new canadian money is made of plastic or i dunno, hate those cause they stick together but harder to counterfeit.

I always tough if you have fake money, best place to spent it is the strip club... not like they verify there money on the spot(and those cabin are so dark in mtl, i have to double check if im giving a 10 or a 20...) and she can never know who gave fake money at the end of the night...

In any case i came across fake money one time only, a guy was refused a 10$ bill at the convenient store, i didn't know him but my buddy yup, he showed it to us and it look just as real as mine... i was shocked... he said he got it from a weed sell...(lol) and he knew who gave it to him, so the guy was pretty much screwed... never heard of him again tough...

american money is made from cotton from recycled 100% cotton jeans, they have a supply problem because of the spandex in the new jeans ...
