so the buds mis-managed his career ... he was probably in need of a change of scenery anyway. but it's nice to see the guy producing like he did earlier in his career with the leafs. his passing skills never dropped off, just his focus.

Actually, he was playing very well when he played for the Buds. His career went south after he joined the Bruins, and by the time he joined the Canes, he appeared to be done.
Kaberle will play well with the habs. However, habs fans have yet to see his knack for dumb giveaways & poor defensive play. They've only seen him for two games. Canes coaches Paul Maurice & Kirk Muller are no dummies: if Kaberle could have helped that sad-sack franchise (stuck at the bottom of the standings), then he would have played. It's shocking he was no longer playing, considering all the money that GM Jim Rutherford was paying him.
But as long as Markov is out, he'll look favorable. But once Markov comes back.....there won't be much of a need for Kaberle since his strenghts mostly lie in puck movement & passing. He's a very soft player, doesn't hit, doesn't shoot.....and his strenghts are on the first unit of a PP.
But the problem with Kabby isn't his skills. It's his insane big contract that Mtl is stuck paying him until the end of 2014. I can't figure out why they'd want a thirty-something underachieving one-dimensional defenceman on the downside of his career......with a big, untradeable contract until well into 2014.
Short term, it makes more sense. But once Markov comes back, as i stated.....it makes absolutely no sense.
It makes you wonder: "Hadn't they learned their lesson with Gomez?" I guess not.
... you realize we're talking about MTL fans... they breathe hockey. they gave god + church the finger but flock to the forum (new forum, can't use the lame sponsored name).
we know of the giveaways, they were evident the last 3-4 yrs kaberle was in Toronto, and very obvious in Boston during the playoffs. not to worry, martin's game plan has the centres doing their job backchecking, when they're healthy.
not to mention, we have subban who loves to turn the disk over regularly.
btw, kaberle's contract is 4m! you call that fat for a puck moving blueliner?

Kaberle used to drive me nuts when he played for the Leafs, and in fact when we had Kubina i always said, trade the two big goof K's while we can still get something for them, just could not stand either. He is a good player but will drive you nuts for never shooting even tho 20,000 clearly see he has glorious opportunities to do so. His defensive game is average at best but he will or should help that terrible powerplay of the Canadiens. I bet he feels like a kid in a candy store now that he is back playing in Canada and out of that mess in Carolina. Good luck Kabs, but not too much good luck
Kaberle is also a giveaway machine, which greatly reduces his value. At least the other players you listed aren't giveaway machines & some of them are tough & have good leadership qualities, something Kaberle absolutely does not have.
Here are Kaberle's contract numbers:
2011-12: $4 million
2012-13: $4.25 million
2013-14: $4.5 million
Any Boston or Carolina fan (and most of the people in the Mtl media) will tell you that this is way too much for someone like Tomas Kaberle.
p.s. As far as puck-moving defencemen, the habs could have held on to the likes of M-A Bergeron, Francis Bouillon, Francois Beauchemin, Marc Streit & Stephane Robidas. All would have been more affordable than Kaberle, and better puck-movers. But the habs braintrust once again lacked patience & waived them goodbye.

I agree with your entire post. I can vouch that you never liked Kaberle when he was with the Leafs & we often had arguements over his play. I'll admit that your arguements at the time were probably more accurate than mine. I also agree that he's happy to be in a hockey market (who wouldn't?) and that he should be able to help the atrocious Montreal powerplay. It can't be any worse than it is, right?

Of course you have to give the poor guy a break for that since he hadn't played a hockey game past the second week of April in almost a decade. :lol:
And a very good possibility he wont again in 2012, unless he gets traded again.
Btw, i would not be so fast to give praise to the g.o.a.t. just yet, if the habs fail to make the playoffs and or kaberle does not post 35 plus points the rest of the season, he will be loathed for taking on another bad contract to go with the several he already has on the roster. The trade for kaberle has the chance to be a great one, but also a horrible one. Time will tell.

subban and mike green are as well but we love 'em anyways. makes for good regular season entertainment. we'll bench kaberle during even strength action come the playoffs. lol
... contrary to what the canadiens have the public thinking with the likes of gionta, cammi, gomez, desharnais, diaz, etc... they're not try to ice the shortest team. m-a bergeron, bouillon, robidas we all tiny guys that get tossed aside in the corners.
kaberle is worth the "extra" 2m per yr for the extra 5" of height he brings ... if he can upgrade the 28th ranked PP by 10 spots, i'd toss another 1.5m his way.
...maybe but mtl's PP should improve drastically over the next 10-15 days. the post-season is a strong possibility.
it's a great trade for both teams...
carolina had to unload a $4m salary that wasn't performing at all and replace tomas with a veteran to help the kids on the blue line develop ... jaro spacek is perfect and his cap hit comes off the books end of the year since spacek's a UFA. McBain gets more ice time and a veteran mentor.

Quite correct. Meanwhile, the habs are stuck close to the basement in 28th place (out of 30 teams) on the powerplay.Well....
