The MMA fighter? Any relation to Brooke Shields?

He meant James Shields, the former Rays ace. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/shielja02.shtml

The shocker of the day was the Yankees not making any moves. They wanted to add a closer at one point and one of those closers they were after was Kimbrel of the Padres. But SD didn't return their call after hearing Cashman's final offer. They did make a minor trade with Seattle yesterday, but after Mike Pineida went down for at least a month, many expected them to trade for a starter or two. It never happened.

Will over-confidence come back and haunt the Yankees? If so and the Yankees wind up missing the post-season, will Brian Cashman's job be safe?

The next two months should be very interesting. One thing is certain: I'll be heading to Toronto to catch a few ballgames over the next few weeks. Go Jays!!

We all know your predictions are not so predictive, so the chances of the Yanks imploding is rather low. They have been winning with mediocre ERA. Andy Warren and the talent they have on the farm will pick up the slack. But thanks for the melodrama. This thread would not be complete without it.

I wonder with the Cole Hamels trade. The Phillies got Pitcher Matt Harrison and 5 top Rangers prospects for Hamel and Reliever Jake Diekman. I wonder how many of those top Ranger farm prospects will pay off for the Phillies. It was an interesting swap. The Phillies are doing Spring Cleaning in August. The Scouts seem to think the Phillies may have made the better part of the deal, especially if 2 or 3 of the 5 prospects make it up to the Big Leagues, which a couple of them will.

Men,

That's too bad. I thought by now the team would be in a position to dominate. It's criminal that they have not developed a good bullpen.

\
Big rumors yesterday about Jackie Bradley Jr. who like Iglesias had an outstanding glove but has not developed as a hitter. Like Iglesias, fans love his field play and are dying for him to hit well enough to be an every day player. Three teams were said to be in a deal involving Red Sox, Cubs, forget the other. Farrell came on just before the game and squashed the rumor.

Merlot - Are you out of your mind? Iggy has been one of the most productive hitters in the American League and an All Star. I watch him every day.

Jose Iglesias

2015 ★ 25 DET AL 91 339 310 31 99 15 2 2 20 10 6 18 34 .319 .363 .400 .763 112 124 9 5 3 3 1 *6 AS

Bogaerts

2015 22 BOS AL 100 400 378 48 118 21 3 3 48 5 1 16 62 .312 .339 .407 .747 105 154 9 1 2 3 0 *6

Iggy has 99 hits in 310 at bats and was named to the All Star team. Is this some sort of passive agressive campaign or have you not bothered to look at the stats? Look, Iggy had the better glove and Bogearts had the better Stick but look at the stats. Iggy has Bogearts beat in several catagories including BA, OBP and OPS. I think it is time to stop knocking the offensive game if Jose Iglesias. Let's face it. Iggy is the better SS. You guys blew it.

Oh and AS stands for All-Star

Oh wow, that could open a huge door for a lot of fun but i will keep quiet on this one lol....

I totally agree about Iggy, hungry101. Iggy is a great guy, productive, a All Star with a great glove hand (so the ladies say) but that guy playing SS for your Tigers is pretty good too ;)......

Seriously tho, i would choose Iglesias over bogearts in a heartbeat.

Iggy Highlights: This guy is the best SS I have ever seen.

How does he get so much on the throw?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gb5tpbPY_QQ

Watch the catch at 1:14 on the highlight reel. That was against Big Poppi. Look at Pedroia's face at 2:53 My favorite is the throw at 3:31. How does he do it?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hqGsceA1QU

I tried to capture some Iggy highlights of the other Iggy from MERB but No Cameras allowed at the GG/VIP events.

Merlot - Are you out of your mind?

What is wrong with your eyes? I was referring to Bradley the whole time and only compared him to Igelsias' skill with the glove. What I said about hitting was all about Bradley. I never referred to Iglesias' current hitting in that post, at worst I was comparing their time with the Red Sox, which for each was a record of great fielding with bad to questionable hitting. Try reading 101.

Say what? Jackie Bradley plays Centerfield.

Jose Igelsias plays Shortstop.

How can you compare the 2? Why would you compare the 2?

I understand the original question hungry asked Merlot. Merlot is just visiting Planet Earth.

And besides Merlot, Igelsias batted .330 for Boston before being traded to Detroit in 2013. He played sparingly in 2012. Bradley's career average is a whopping .190 (I know that's average for the Sox in 2015)

http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/bradlja02.shtml

And Bradley's Sabremetrics (whatever that is) is pretty bad since it has a bunch of negative in it http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/bradlja02-field.shtml

Nice to see all is fine in Met-Land these days after some very good trades and the sweep of the Nationals. Hey Smuler, a Subway World Series again this year?

Below is one former contributor's (crickets, chirp chirp) response to when I posted about the hosers and that ridiculous contract they gave to Ricky "i never miss a bat" Porcello back in April. Seems our pal is the one who really knows "that little" about baseball. Rumps, would you care to give us Ricky's stats this season, S'il Vous Plait?

Oh and trust me, I am not the only one laughing here, so is Ricky Rick! all the way to the bank! :thumb:

PS... While you are at it, how about telling us all what happened with all the comparisons that I made in post #17 of this thread and you countered in post #29. (I was only wrong about DH and LF as Arod and Gardner are light years better this season than their hoser counterparts) Again, S'il Vous Plait? :D

Wow! Do you really know that little about baseball, or that little about Porcello? Do you know how old Porcello is? At 26, and coming off a year with a 3.43 ERA and a 1.23 whip, he is just entering his prime. Porcello gave up the chance to sign for much more at the end of this season.

You're right, lgna. Yes, rumps knows as much about baseball as he knows about political issues, etc. ... that little.

Wow! This was shocking news back home.

http://www.clickondetroit.com/sports/baseball/reports-tigers-fire-dave-dombrowski/34535566

Tigers fire Dave Dombrowski. He did a great job all-in-all but he never got the ultimate prize. Two world series trips but no trophy. He made some very good moves. However, the Fister deal was the worst I have ever seen in modern times. Hiring Brad Ausmus - a manager with no previous managing experience - other than the Isreali team in the World Baseball tourny. Failing to put together a bullpen really killed this team.

It was indeed a shocker. Word around Toronto and MLB is that he may become the Jays' next CEO once Paul Beeston retires following this season. Last season, Dan Duquette had agreed to take over for Beeston, but Orioles owner Peter Angelos killed the deal by refusing to let Duquette leave the O's organization.

Dombrowski would be a great fit in Toronto. He's familiar with Canada, having once been the Expos' GM. He'd also be welcomed with open-arms in Toronto and he's highly regarded. Folks around baseball believe current GM Alex Anthopoulos could work with Dombrowski as his boss.

I also believe the team's owners believe they might have a good chance at re-signing David Price should Dombrowski join the organization.

On another note, the Boston Red Sox suck even more than i thought. What a disgraceful performance against longtime rival NY Yankees tonight! I've also heard rumblings that Dombrowski may be offered an administrative position with the Red Sox, which wouldn't surprise me considering tonight's debacle! It sure wouldn't hurt!

Guys,

Hiring Brad Ausmus - a manager with no previous managing experience - other than the Isreali team in the World Baseball tourny.

Ausmus was on the Red Sox short list when they hired Farrell. He was well regarded but the lack of experience hurt his chances. I don't remember if he was passed up because of that or took the Tigers job first. In the end we got a World Series Championship out of our choice. I'm sure the Tigers would have taken two last place finishes and a World Series ring rather than no ring at all.

Cheers,

Merlot

The Red Sox should have definitely hired Brad Ausmus instead of THE WORST MANAGER IN BASEBALL, John Farrell. Had they hired Ausmus, they would have easily won the World Series in 2 games. I know it's impossible to win it in two, but considering how awful John Farrel is as a manager (or pretending to be), i'm certain the Red Sox would have won in two with any other average manager.

Who's next to leave the Red Sox? Cherington? Farrell? Pedroia? Ortiz? Bucholz? Napoli? This team's absolutely awful!!!!!! But why am i surprised? AFTER ALL, THEY HAVE THE WORST MANAGER IN THE HISTORY OF BASEBALL MANAGING THAT AWFUL TEAM!!!!

Just saying...;)

It must be woeful to be a Red Sox fan in 2015, 2016, 2017, etc., etc. But this demise couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch.

Cheers to you, you Obnoxious Red Sox fans.

At least US Yankee fans are enjoying 2015.

enuf said. LOL.

You forgot 2014. ;)

Seriously, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they go another 86 years without winning anything.

That's 2099. Rumps, Merlot and K will be a ripe age if that prophecy come to fruition. But I think you may have a good chance on that prediction, Doc. :thumb:

Stoops,

Says day disturber too cowardly to name his own team. At least Hungry 101 is man enough to stand up for a team alone.

Seriously, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they go another 86 years without winning anything.

Seriously, by then it will be 132 years since the Leafs, worst team on the North American continent, won a title. Hell...a title? BWAHAHAHA! The Red Sox have 3 World Series Championships in 9 years. That just baseball. What has any team in Toronto had in 9 years. Oh Yeah, a blown game 7 after being up 4-1 with 10:00 left. Try putting that in your trophy case captain No Prisoners.

Back to the Red Sox. Henry Owens did okay last night, then the roof caved in after he left. How about Steven Wright tonight manhandling the vaunted Yankees with the ease of a knuckle-balling artist. He gave up just 4 hits with 9 strikeouts, none of the Yankees first 4 hitters got a hit. Then there's KABOOOOOM!!! Hey did anyone get the flight number of that ball Ortiz hit out of the house Ruth didn't build. A free "Yankees Suck" t-shirt to anyone who can guess the time that shot will actually land. Yeah we know how much Yankees and their fans love being beaten by ORTIZ...right in front of their faces! :thumb: Can you say...The CHOKE of ALL TIME 2004!!!!!!!!!!
