Fans won't pay $400 a ticket very long to attend a Leafs game if they keep on losing games at a regular pace.

Your post certainly makes complete sense to any logical person...but for some strange and perversely illogical reason the poor misguided followers of the Leafs have been paying ridiculously high prices to attend a half century's worth of "losing games" by their inept "heroes". Leaf ownership and management might be totally ineffective at producing good hockey teams but let's be fair and give them full marks for their excellent skill in selling Koolaid.

Babs is not the best coach in the world by accident.

The first 9 words are accurate. The last 2 are not required.

Dr. Babcock is a good coach, true, but "the best"...HUH? Where does THAT come from? Joel Quenneville, Barry Trotz, and several others might argue the point.Until May 20 you never gave him that praise, so what magically happened?

If he was the best, he would have won more than 1 Cup in his 10 years with the mighty Wings. If he was the best, he would have had a winning record - rather than a losing one - in his 2 years with the Ducks. If he was the best, he might have more than ONE single laughable win with the Leafs.

Yes, Babs is a decent coach (and, to his credit, DOES know how to use a toaster!), but most of his vaunted success is due to the great teams he had (Team Canada and the Wings; even the Ducks were okay). It's the TEAMS that made Babcock a success, not the other way around. For proof, just look at how horribly he's doing now that he has a truly crappy team for the first time ever.

Leafs fans have wanted a true rebuild for years.

Huh? Excuse me? Pardon? You know, it's funny but I seem to remember TWO Leaf fans who have been BOASTING since at least 2008 about how their team was great, it was going to do well, it was "now Burke's team", and yada, yada, yada. They proudly posted things like "In Burke we trust" and they praised all the moves that were made (the Kessel trade from Boston, the Clarkson signing, the acquisition of the Monster, getting Bernier, getting Carlyle, the great play of Lupul, the amazing skill of Kadri). They loved EVERYTHING that Burke and Nonis did. They proudly posted League standings during the very brief periods that the Leafs were doing okay. They made brave predictions of success...and NOW you say that they "have wanted a true rebuild for years"???????"??!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry sir...but something doesn't jive!

We'll never know if Nylander will ever be ready if he keeps on playing with a bunch of hockey bums in the minors. I'm ok with Marner spending the year there. As for the Calder Cup, i wipe my ass with it when i run out of toilet paper.

Not sure the shareholders will stick to the rebuild plan once the patrons stop buying the $400 tickets. I was at the Ottawa game and half of the 100 level seemed to be missing for most of the game and there were plenty of tickets available via the box office on the morning of the game.

The Leafs need to find a #1 goalie. I'm sick of the born-again Christian redhead from American Pie and Bernier hasnt been focused since the blond moved in with him. Plus they now have some kid keeping him awake all night long to change his shitty diaper!

On another note, what was the final score in Carolina last night? ;)

Excellent and very accurate observations:thumb: Unfortunately for the Leafs however, they are so completely embroiled in a losing culture and a tradition of eternal failure that even if they lined up a goalie triumvirate of Sawchuk, Plante and Hasek in their primes they would STILL find a way to be the absolute worst team in all of professional sports.

The Canes beat the Wings 3-1 (including an empty-net goal).

Very disappointing to see that the Wings have only 4 wins compared to Toronto's one, and only 9 points compared to Toronto's 4.

Also, the fact that Toronto held Detroit to a mere 4 goals when the Wings beat them 4-0 is disappointing.

There should be a MUCH larger gap in all those areas. If Detroit cannot score more than 4 goals against a wretched team like the Leafs, it definitely means that Motor City will have to improve. The good news though is that things are expected to change when the most skilled hockey player in the world returns. Also encouraging is that the coaching problem has been solved by replacing a tired old coach with a fresh and talented new one. The other bright spot is rookie of the year candidate Dylan Larkin.

All told, despite the embarrassment of having only twice as many points as the Leafs and only 4 times as many wins as the Leafs thus far, there is still hope.

Last season, first under Randy Carlyle and later under the Great Peter Horachek, the Leafs finished 27th in a 30 team league.

Thus far this season, under "the world's best coach since May 20, 2015", the Leafs are 28th.

They are 1 of only 2 teams with only ONE victory this year. (Amazingly, the other is Anaheim.) Even Columbus (!!!), the ONLY team the Leafs have been able to beat, now has 2 wins!

In fairness, Shanny's idea of a "rebuild" is apparently spending multi-millions on management, trading the team's best player for a few scraps, and doing nothing else. Hard for even "the world's best coach since May 20, 2015" to win the chess game when he has no pieces!

Look behind you.
Impressed with the Oilers come from behind win last night against the Habs, after a 0-3 blowout in the first I kind of lost hope..... :) Chiarelli still plans on getting one or two veteran defensemen in the near future, guessing a young gun or two will be traded.

I had stopped watching the Oilers/Habs game after the first period, with the Carey Price-led habs leading 3-0. And then, with about 5 minutes left in the game, i switch to the channel to watch the sports news and the game is still on.....and it's tied 3-3!!!!! How did that happen???

And then, with about two minutes left to play, the Oilers score their fourth goal and wind up winning the game!!! Great!!! :D

As a very knowledgeable hockey expert posted a mere seven days ago, the Oilers have a great future:thumb:

Not surprising, considering they've finished last for the past 30 years. :D

Not true of the Oilers, as you well know, although the Leafs have been near the basement for almost FIFTY years, so what's their excuse for still being the laughingstock of sports?

Indeed a GREAT game for Sol Tee's GEO last night! Red Light Price has come back to earth. If Price were to ever get hurt for a bulk of the season, the canadians are a non playoff team.

Over the years the Oilers seem to have Prices number, 1 ( habs ) - 7 ( Oilers ) I think. Looks like Montreal took their fustrations out on Calgary last night 6 - 2...

Calgary is affiliated with Burke so we all know how that will end up. Look for Edmonton to be the long-term winners in the so-called Battle of Alberta.

Your first sentence is very accurate.

Your second sentence is accurate except for the totally incorrect and inappropriate Racicot-like description you applied to Price. By the way, how are Bernier and Reimer doing this year?

Your third sentence is a) complete speculation on the part of a jealous Leaf fan, b) devoid of any factual evidence to back up the wild speculation of your pipe dream, c) incorrect (duh: ever hear of names like Subban, Pacioretty, Gallagher, Markov, Plekanec, etc.?), d) irrelevant, and e) guess what: ANY team suffers if one of its top players is injured. By the way, how many times have the LEAFS been "a non playoff team" in the past decade? (I'll save you the trouble of finding out: the answer is ALL BUT ONE ...and that of course was in a shortened season, so they didn't have time for their usual collapse.)

Good news for Leafs fans, however: now that the rebuild is in full swing and they have "the world's best coach since May 20, 2015", they ALREADY have ONE win in ONLY nine games:thumb:
