I am not sure I get the point of that article. I think it was clear from the start that if they decide to call any witnesses, Hunter will be the first one among them. Why do they need Schiff or anyone else to open the door for them? They (Republicans) run the show and no one can overrule them.
So the real question is, or so it seems to me, whether or not they call any witnesses at all or just close the bullshit show promptly and decisively. I think I would be surprised if they decided to deal with any witnesses. All these senators are always so in love with the sound of their voices, it must be the worst kind of torture for them to have to sit tight on their asses (late into the night) and basically do nothing. Why would they want to prolong the pleasure? Except, of course, if they decide that it would really damage them politically. But even so, they don't need Schiff's help, they are (basically) free to do whatever they want.
And another point is that if they wish to question Hunter, they don't need this impeachment business, they can subpoena him any time they wish. And perhaps they should, it would be fun too.

I don’t think they will call Hunter or any other witnesses. However, Giuliani has not spent several weeks traveling to Ukraine for nothing. They may have some documentary evidence.

What this whole thing truly shows is how divided the USA are. Luckily in my many travels for work I do in the USA I still do not feel that division. But perhaps it's because I only meet a few americans... Most people I meet during my stays are cab/uber driver, hotel staff, airport staff, restaurant staff... Therefore only blacks and latinos haha
