Now the important thing is "Wang" got blown away twice. Once by a very poor team. And once by a contender. That is what should be troubling you.

I have a feeling that BANG!! will either go on the DL very soon or be sent down to the minors. This guy is simply not MLB material right now. He'd be a great batting practice pitcher, though! :D

no kidding! lol........ score, a loss is a loss, even the players will tell you this...

Bang on lgna69xxx, and so goes another loss in the books for the terrible Red Sox, Lester doesn't look like the pitcher he was last year and Beckett is now resorting to head hunting when the game doesn't go his way, a clear sign of desperation in Red Sox land, lets hope that Selig does the right thing and suspends his sorry ass.

Here you go Merlot, watch the video and tell me if he's a guilty SOB or not, it's a good thing that Speier or Hunter didn't get a hold of him.

it proves one thing only, Joe West is a fraud and
time should never have been called:mad:

The timeout call came very late, he was already into his windup so better off to let the pitch go than risk injuring himself. As far as Speier or Hunter go, they're real tough guys when being held back by the team, it's all an act!!

Joe West wasn't the home plate ump, it was Schreiber, West was the crew chief at 2nd base. Schrieber should have never given Abreu time at that point.

He's a professional Merlot, he's got enough control to know where that ball is going, and I guarantee you, if he wanted to hit Abreu in the head, he would have! There's never been one time in his career he's hit anyone in the head. It was meant as a message and it's all part of the game.

Well Shaumaman,

Whether the poor timing of the time out affected Beckett or not, or whether the time out should have been given at all, the ball was definitely thrown right at Abreu. No doubt about that. As per my earlier stance, I have to agree with the suspension. There is no reason to ever deliberately throw at someone's head. If there was any risk to Beckett's arm he still could have directed the pitch elsewhere...easily. But he was right on target at Abreu instead. That is not excusable.

I never disputed the suspension, the umpires are in cut and cover mode
and MLB is only too happy to oblige.
You seem to be inside Beckett's head, "no doubt" throwing at Abreu.
I don't know, perhaps he was intending to throw inside on that pitch anyway
and it sailed away... don't know.
Pitching inside is a part of baseball, tactical and strategic.
Do the names Gibson, Drysdale and Koufax mean anything to you?
Perhaps Abreu and Beckett have prior NL history?
Cheers,
S-man

Hello S-man,

I looked at the film several times and just did again. Abreu got hit squarely, high on the shoulder as he was just moving backward. That is a pinpoint hit on a moving target, too accurate of a hit to be an accident. I am not saying I know what Beckett was thinking. I am just looking at what happened.

By the way...I met Drysdale and several other HOF pitchers like Warren Spahn, Bob Feller, Robin Roberts, Whitey Ford, Bob Lemon, Jim Palmer, Don Sutton, Juan Marichal, Fergie Jenkins, Gaylord Perry, and Steve Carlton when I was collecting autographs at signing shows. I also have autographs by Johnny Vander Meer, Denny McLain, Jim Lonborg, Luis Tiante, and Joe Wood. All gotten in person except Vander Meer, and Wood. Wanna see..."my balls" ? ;)

Toodles,

Ah, autogragraphs
are you a Trekkie too?:D
I stand corrected:confused:

what about pitching inside?

Holy crap!

I'm watching the Red Sox/A's game (as i'm also watching the Jays/Twins game in extra innings) and the A's just scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 1st off Dice-K & he's already thrown 43 pitches!!! In the 1st inning alone!!

A's lead 5-3 going into the bottom of the 2nd.

Sox are reporting arm fatigue and it's quite likely that Dice-K will get a couple of weeks of R and R on the DL, with Buchholz coming up to take his place. While the hose are off to a hideous start, I still don't think there's too much worry, though you really don't want to get too far behind Tampa Bay.

The silver lining in last night's game was the 10 innings of stellar work by the Sox bullpen, a pen which has been outstanding so far and is deep and talented. The Sox have lost 4 one run games and won only one. They'll be just fine.

Question-

Who will be the first manager fired this year.

A) Terry Francona
B) Terry Francona
C) Terry Francona
D) All of the above.:) Bawhahahahahahahahahaha!!!!

Cause for concern

Quote from a recent Ken Rosenthal article on Ortiz

"Teams are not pitching Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz as carefully as they did in the past, one American League coach notes, sensing that above-average velocity gives him trouble. Ortiz, 33, needs to get his bat going earlier against good fastballs, leaving him more vulnerable to breaking pitches.

The Red Sox believe that Ortiz, while a less dominant hitter than he was from 2003 to '07, still can be a impact bat. He had better be — Ortiz and right fielder J.D. Drew are the Sox's primary power threats from the left side ..."

end of quote.

Merlot,

Please tell me what you're saying here. When did Abreu get hit squarely on the shoulder? BECKETT DIDN'T HIT ABREU!!!! If he was hit he would have been awarded first base, he wasn't, the at-bat continued after all the hoopla finished and Abreu grounded out to short stop.

You really need to have your eyes checked my friend.

Stop picking on Merlot SK, what he meant to say is that the intent by Beckett to injure was real and Abreu could have been seriously hurt if he was struck in the head, why do you think Bob Watson suspended his sorry cowardly ass for six games, so stop defending Beckett.

I just realized that this might be the only time in history that I will ever agree on something with my friend Merlot.:)

Matsuzaka goes on DL

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Boston Red Sox right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka went on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a mild right shoulder strain after his second straight poor start to open the season.

Matsuzaka didn't make it to the second inning Tuesday night against the Oakland Athletics, giving up five runs and five hits on 43 pitches. After going 18-3 last year, Dice-K is 0-1 with a 12.79 ERA this season, yet another worry for manager Terry Francona during his club's unimpressive start.

"Our biggest concern is to keep him healthy and productive," Francona said. "At the moment, it doesn't seem like we're there with him. ... It wasn't coming out very crisp. It looks like he needs to be built back up. We want him to be able to be Dice-K."

The Japanese star won three games while earning the MVP award at the World Baseball Classic this spring, but his outstanding performance for the WBC champions might have cost the Red Sox. Francona thinks the extra work has caused trouble early in the regular season.

After Tuesday's game lasted more than four hours and ended with Oakland's 6-5 victory, the Red Sox said Matsuzaka had "arm fatigue." Speaking through an interpreter, Matsuzaka claimed he felt fine.

"Not in particular," Matsuzaka said through a translator, when asked if he had any physical problems. "I haven't had the chance to speak to Francona yet, but for me personally, I think I'm OK."

Matsuzaka will be examined by Boston's team doctor on Friday when the club returns to Fenway Park. The Red Sox recalled Hunter Jones, a 25-year-old left-handed reliever with no major league experience, to replace him on the roster.

Boston's pitching woes also include Jon Lester's 0-2 start and Josh Beckett's six-game suspension for throwing a pitch near the head of the Los Angeles Angels' Bobby Abreu. Beckett is appealing the ban, which was handed down Tuesday.

After five Red Sox relievers held the A's scoreless for 10 innings following Matsuzaka's meltdown, reliever Javier Lopez walked the bases loaded and lost Tuesday's game on a two-out infield single by Travis Buck.

Boston had lost six of seven heading into Wednesday's series finale with knuckleballer Tim Wakefield on the mound.

Ohhhhhhh yaaaaaaaaaa baby Derek Jeter comes through in the clutch, and thats why they pay him the big bucks, Yanks take the rubber against Tampa which is something that the pathetic Red Sox couldn't do.

Team Hero- Derek Jeter.
Honorable Mention- Andy Pettitte.

Jesus Christ Doc!!!, talk about rubbing salt into the wound, are you trying to drive rumples deeper underneath that rock he lives in?, he may never come back up.:D

Where I belong.
1. Beckett didn't hit Abreu, nor did he try.
2. Had he hit Abreu, he wouldn't have been awarded first base as time was out.
3. Burnett was fabulous on Tuesday, almost as good as Wakefield on Wednesday.
4. April is the Yankees favorite month; October is the Sox'.
5. OK,so April isn't the Yankees favorite month. But it is their second favorite, after March.
6. A 5-4 record after playing mostly Kansas City and Baltimore is rather pitiful.
