its ok , not bad for baseball at all, its just not state of the art like most clubs have gone to, plus a new stadium with all the amenities would draw 35,000 to 40,000 a night.... had Mtl got the stadium they should have gotten, they would still be there. the big O was so depressing to go to

You can't start building stadiums every 20 years. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever, plus the tax-payers would never go for it. Twenty years from now, there'll be even better stadiums being built around the major leagues. There's no end to it. Sure, you could probably draw over 30 000 per game, maybe more. They'd come to the game not for the game itself, but to see the new stadium themselves. Just like it was for the first 10 years that the Skydome a.k.a Rogers Center was built. But at what cost?? Not worth it.

However, if the baseball team would want to incur 100% of the costs, i have no problem with it. But it'll be a cold day in hell when this happens. Cities that refuse to fund new stadiums usually get threatened by the teams, who'll tell them 'pay up or we're out of here!'

I do agree with you in regards to the Expos & how depressing Olympic Stadium was. But the Rogers Center is miles apart from the Big 'O'. Anytime there's a game going on in Toronto with the roof open on a sunny day, it beats half the stadiums in the entire major leagues. I will admit that the atmosphere is much different with the roof closed, however, there's a reason why the roof is closed & usually it's due to bad weather.

I can name you one good reason why this is so: THEY YANKEES SUCK !!!
Oh, right. Why didn't I think of that?:D

BTW, watching today's game, I noticed three young children, under 10 for sure, sitting in the Barcalounger section right behind home plate. Did their parents really drop $7500 so these kids could watch a ballgame?

Not looking good

There are serious concerns about the Red Sox and David Ortiz, this is a scary analysis from fox sports that came out this morning and I quote-

"What exactly has been the problem? Well for starters, Daisuke Matsuzaka and Jon Lester have gotten rocked, and only Kevin Youkilis and Jason Bay have hit the ball at all. Dice-K is now on the DL.

But the real problem may be that the Red Sox have the potential to simply not be as good as we think they are.

This is a team with great potential. The pitching depth is phenomenal. It also might be tested. The lineup is deep, but parts of it are beginning to survive on reputation.

Look at the question marks for the Red Sox. Jason Varitek is old and offers virtually nothing offensively. Dustin Pedroia will likely regress (at least a little) from his 2008 MVP season. They have no shortstop at the moment. How long will Mike Lowell's hip last and what will it allow him to do? Perhaps Jacoby Ellsbury's not the hitter we thought he was in 2007. How long until J.D. Drew hits the DL? Did the World Baseball Classic kill Dice-K's arm?

And most importantly ...

Is David Ortiz done?

That last one's kind of a bomb, and it's a dagger in the heart of Red Sox fans. But Boston has seen this before.

If you look at the bottom of Ortiz's baseball-reference page, you see some ominous career projections for Ortiz's twilight years. What do the fifth-most similar batter to Ortiz, the third-most similar batter through age 32, and Ortiz's most similar counterpart at ages 25, 29, and 30 have in common?

They're all Mo Vaughn. Yikes.

The rest of his comparison list isn't exactly full of guys who starred into their 40's, but what do they all have in common? They're all big, slow-moving power hitters, and players of that profile don't typically age well.

Ortiz, 33 this season, could also still be battling through last season's wrist injury. Injuries of that kind often linger, as was evidenced by his substantial drop in production in 2008. It might also be the kind of injury that doesn't go away.

Most importantly for the Red Sox, Ortiz is the kind of player, leader, and personality that directs the entire mood of his clubhouse. According to those who know him best, Ortiz was not himself last year as he struggled through and the performance from the rest of the team, at times, reflected that.

But they are post-curse Red Sox, so not all of these questions can go against them.

Can they?"

Scary shit if you ask me.

This bullshit is sooooo last week. BTW, through 16 games last year, Papi was hitting .111 with 1 dinger. Off to a much better start in '09.

Papi has a 2b and a 3b just today, 3 rbi.

I agree it's a better start then in 08 but it is still terrible and and he still has 0 hr while hitting a paltry .196, Big Papi is paid big bucks to hit the long ball, heck, even Varitek has a better average and more hr than Papi and we all know how much Varitek stinks, I have a sneakin suspicion that he will not be in a Red Sox uniform next year.:(

Well all,

It looks like that powerhouse Orioles team that gave the Spanks so much trouble and embarrassment isn't all it's cracked up to be as the Red Sox slaughtered them in the last of 4 games to sweep the series. Of course the Spanks know about "SLAUGHTER". Does 22-4 mean anything to you...lol.

Joe? FM??

<crickets> again;)

Guess which team Sports Illustrated has picked to win the most games in baseball this year, they also picked the Yankees to win the East, I suggest you pick up a copy because it's a good read and there is also a story on a pitcher by the name of Carsten Charles Sabathia who is on the cover and who is also my CY Young pick.

BTW, who you picking to win the CY Young Shaumaman?, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Bawhahahahahahahahahahahaha.:p

Tell me, Joe, you fucking moron®, just what is your track record at picking winners these past few years? I'd say your batting average is lower than Mark Teixeira's pitiful .206.

And I have a sneaking suspicion that CC Sabathia sucked this afternoon.

The over/under line on Big Papi hitting hr's this season is 10, if I was a betting man I would definitely take the under.:p
Actually, he's likely to hit more than 10 home runs in the 4-5 games in which he's going to face Cheeseburger Cheeseburger Sabathia.

And, by the way, you are a betting man, except for the paying up part.

I wonder if the silly Red Sox will remember that in order to win the division that they will have to beat the good teams with winning records.:)

For some strange reason I got up this morning and got my broom out and started sweeping my place, I can't seem to stop, something has definitely come over me, geez I wonder what it could be.:)

Hey Joe.teenie,

This is what I mean about you. Maybe you are joking.

No I'm not, I heard that Selig is going to watch the game himself because Abreu and Chamberlain were roomates last year and developed a close friendship, so much so that they became best friends, interesting interesting, can't wait for tonight.:)
