You can't start building stadiums every 20 years. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever, plus the tax-payers would never go for it. Twenty years from now, there'll be even better stadiums being built around the major leagues. There's no end to it. Sure, you could probably draw over 30 000 per game, maybe more. They'd come to the game not for the game itself, but to see the new stadium themselves. Just like it was for the first 10 years that the Skydome a.k.a Rogers Center was built. But at what cost?? Not worth it.
However, if the baseball team would want to incur 100% of the costs, i have no problem with it. But it'll be a cold day in hell when this happens. Cities that refuse to fund new stadiums usually get threatened by the teams, who'll tell them 'pay up or we're out of here!'
I do agree with you in regards to the Expos & how depressing Olympic Stadium was. But the Rogers Center is miles apart from the Big 'O'. Anytime there's a game going on in Toronto with the roof open on a sunny day, it beats half the stadiums in the entire major leagues. I will admit that the atmosphere is much different with the roof closed, however, there's a reason why the roof is closed & usually it's due to bad weather.
