SK, are u mod 7?

Actually it is the time of year where he like all other Red Sox fans are in that giddy mood, you know the time of year when the Red Sox pretend to be a good team and win for a bit before they start to perform thier annual swan dive, come September they will be ranting and raving with excuses like they do every year, right SK?:p

Question- Who am i ?, i screwed the Red Sox for $103 million and i have a Fabulous ERA of 4.36 and will probably end up with a losing record.:p

Clemens is on his way!!!

There is a rumour going around that Clemens has told his good friend Jason Giambi to keep his old locker clean, you would have to be a village idiot to not figure out what that means, i forgot to post the link when i saw it the other day but now i cant find it.:)

Joe.T,

It will in fact happen. The Yankees also want Clemens to mentor young stud Phil Hughes when he gets back, as the Yankees see Hughes as possibly the next Roger Clemens. And Clemens would be a fine mentor for him.

2006 - Eagerbeaver announces that the Yankees will acquire Dontrelle Willis and joins Joe.T in declaring that the Yankees will sign Roger Clemens.
2007 - Eagerbeaver and Joe.T announce that Roger Clemens will rejoin the Yankees.

Yankees Fire Strength and Conditioning Coach

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2858274

I listened to WFAN on the way home and they were saying that Cashman was essentially railroaded by the Yankees' marketing department into replacing the popular Eric Mangold with the now fired Marty Miller as "director of performance enhancement". Prior to being hired by the Yankees, Miller was a fitness instructor at some posh country club owned by a company that the Yankees have some kind of marketing gig with, and apparently Cashman was pressured to hire him. Miller de-emphasized running and stretching and now he is being blamed for the rash of hamstring injuries. No experience working in pro baseball.

He was also reportedly something of a taskmaster and the players are happy to see him go. They should have brought Mangold back.

The American League Rookie of the Month for April is a Japanese pitcher who wanted to pitch for the Yankees.

Interesting how many of the "experts" that Joe.T likes to cite are writing the Yankees off for 2007. Not because of the offense, certainly. Not because of the starting pitching, which may get healthy and right itself. No, because of the bullpen which is overworked and exhausted just four weeks into the season. They sure could have used the underpaid Hideki Okajima.

And don't think for a second that a certain Mr. Clemens of Katy, TX isn't going to consider the strength of the bullpen behind him when he decides where he's going to pitch in 2007, should he decide to pitch at all.

The Yankees, with last night's rainout, now have six games in the next 5 days. Any idea who's going to make these starts after Pettitte, Mussina, Igawa, and Wang? Rasner? Ed Whitson? Joe.T? Dontrelle Willis? Sandy Koufax? Doc Holliday? The 8 year old down the block?

On WFAN, they said it would be Rasner.
He's number 5. Who's going to pitch on Monday? I seriously doubt they'd use either the fragile Pettitte or the fragile Mussina on three days rest.

Another option is to start Sean Henn, who is the long relief guy but has starting experience, and bring up Ron Villone who is now in the minors after a poor spring (he agreed to go to the minors to build up his arm strength) to fill Henn's role.

Yes, a possibility, but considering the grim state of the bullpen and the fact that he's one of the few guys out there who's been even marginally effective, I'm sure Joe would rather leave him out there.

God is Cashman ever a brilliant genius!!!, he knew right away that D-Walk was all hype and he saw right through all the hot air that was being said about him and thats why the Yankees did not put in a serious bid for him.

btyger- post 285 is especially dedicated to you, actually it is my favourite post that i have ever posted on merb, cheers my good man!!!!:p

Last year, even I thought they made a mistake letting Damon go. I'm starting to change my mind, though. They should've resigned him-if it had been for one year.
Nope, letting the corpse of Johnny Damon go was no mistake. Theo knew he was damaged goods. CASHman just saw an opportunity to spend $52 M to reward Damon for his past.

As for Cashman being a genius for not signing him, the fact that he signed the less talented Igawa shows me he was upset about not getting Daisuke.
The moron even told Hideki Okajima he wasn't interested. Now Okajima will pitch for the Sox for 3 years for $1 M less than the Yankees pay Kyle Farnsworth EACH year. What a dope.

Yanks to Set MLB Record

On Monday, the Yanks will send the legendary Matt DeSalvo out to the mound to face the Seattle Mariners, their 10th different starting pitcher in 30 games. The 26 year old DeSalvo, signed in 2003 by the Yankees as an undrafted free agent from baseball powerhouse Marietta College, went 1-6 last year at Columbus with a 7.68 ERA.

According to a prediction by MERB house expert, Joe.T, DeSalvo is among the favorites to win the AL Rookie of the Year Award in 2007.

Rumples,

What's your assessment of the Dice-K ERA of 5.45? A bit high, is it not, for a guy that the Red Sox paid over $100 million to get? It looks to me like he has become a $100 million nibbler a la David Cone at the end of his career. Did those two non-quality starts against the Yankees shake up his confidence? Why is he walking the bases loaded to start games? Did he do this in Japan?

If I want a nibbler, I will pay $10 for a goldfish. You can watch a goldfish nibble at his food all day for a lot less money.:p

He's also only had 6 starts with about 30+ more to come, care to wager who has a higher ERA come October, Dice-K or Igawa?

What you fail to mention is that in each of his starts against the Yankees, the box score spelled his name Matsuzaka,W.

Must confess he's got me completely baffled. though your use of the term "nibbling" suggests either that you haven't seen him pitch or that your watching the games through pin-striped colored glasses. In three of his starts, he's been dominant throughout. In his other three, he's been dominant in all but one inning. In that inning, he totally loses command of the strike zone and walks the house. It also happened in one of his spring training outings. You certainly can't call it nibbling when pitches are 10-20 inches off the plate, in one direction or another.

It could also be that with Schilling and Beckett competing for the Cy Young award, Dice-K wants to make it a bit easier on the voters.
