Guess the Sox CHASED him WRIGHT out of there. Guess Joe was right about the sweep. Good work, pal.

If you guys think the Red Sox are going to run away and hide, I seriously doubt it. The Red Sox rotation set up perfectly for this series and, despite that, they failed to get a single quality start from any of their top 3 starting pitchers and outscored a banged up Yankees team by a not exactly dominating 21-17 margin. If I were a Red Sox fan I would be a bit concerned by that. The margin between winning and losing at the major league level is very small, and a few injuries can tilt the balance in favor of one team or another. That's why you have to watch the games and see how a team is winning or losing.

The Yankees pitching was and has been horrible, but part of it was rookie pitchers and part of it was a rookie catcher last night, and they were without 3 starters, Matsui and a healthy Posada. Just as the Red Sox were not fully healthy when they suffered a much more dominating 5 game sweep at home last year.

Things look good for the Red Sox right now (and they looked even better last July!), but it is a long season, shit happens, shit gets straightened out, and there is a long time for either one to happen. I believe the Yankees pitching which is currently a mess will get straightened out in the near future.

A-Rod has connected for his 13th homer in his first at bat tonight and is now one away from the Pujols major league record for April.

Believe what you will. I believe something different. Yes, they'll get Wang back, but I expect Mussina to remain fragile this year and for his age to show. Igawa is getting mashed again tonight and struggling with the strike zone again. Pavano is Pavano. Pettitte looks great now, but it's been a long, long time since he put together a full season, both effective and healthy. He's an elbow injury just waiting to happen.

The bullpen is already torched and it's only going to get worse. Looks like they'll be in the pen by the 4th or 5th again tonight. (Igawa's at 50 pitches in less than two innings.) Yes, E-Rod's on pace for over 100 hrs, but Proctor's on pace for more than 100 appearances.

Rivera? Every year he gets off to a slow start and the buzzards start circling and every year he gets his act together. You know as well as I that someday the age will show. This year? I wouldn't bet on it but you never know.

Rumples,

Curiously you don't mention either Clemens or Hughes, both of whom may be in the Yankees rotation before the all star break. In fact, Hughes is being called up to start Thursday after a dominant triple A start the other night:

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-yankees-hughes&prov=ap&type=lgns

The Yankees did not want to rush him, but chances are he is more ready than Chase Wright.

By the ways, I don't believe in the theory of "rushing" guys who are big time talents. If a guy can play, he can play. When I played my first ping pong tournament, I didn't ask anyone if I was ready. I knew I was.

Stop picking on Joe T guys. Just do what I do - learn to read his "predictions" the "right" way, lay down some bets, and before you know it you'll be counting the cash.

Why would I mention Clemens, who, despite what everybody in NY seems to think, is NOT property of the NY Yankees. The smart money is still on Houston. Maybe I should mention Dontrelle Willis. Hey, you can dream, can't you?

While Hughes is considered by many the premiere pitching prospect in all of baseball, the Yankees know as well as you and I that he is not ready for the big time, but when you're desparate, you do what you need to. I expect Hughes to be OK right from the start and, should he stay healthy, to develop into a front line starter over the next few years. I also expect the Yankees to monitor his pitch counts and innings carefully. His presence is likely to tax the bullpen as they're not likely to let him go over 5-6 innings per start or over 175 over the course of the season.

Do you understand now? :( I was wildly optimistic when Willy Mo came here, but I've seen enough. Boston isn't a good fit, anyway. There are power hitters who strike out a ton and hit for a low average and it's okay. Adam Dunn comes to mind. He hits .240 and strikes out 190 times. But it's okay, because he hits 40 homers AND walks 105 times and isn't a defensive liability.

Willy Mo, if he played a whole year would strike out 190 times and probably walk 40. And he looks lost in the field. He might develop into a better player, but Boston probably isn't the place for him.

And Crisp isn't as bad as we've seen

This is completely true! Wily Mo is an awful defensive fielder and so long as a pitcher can throw a curveball, Wily Mo will be a strikeout victim.

Doc,
Can't agree with you on Tavarez. He was pretty awful. Made some nice pitches, but hung an awful lot.

I think the ball that Manny dribbled toward short slipped out of his hand.

As for Wily Mo, I think I'm out of patience. He's dangerous in the field and he was more holes in his swing than Martin has at XXXtase. My 16 year old son could strike him out with some offspeed slop 15 inches outside. Any pitcher who throws Wily Mo a strike should be forced to spend half an hour listening to a lecture by Stripperlover.

Seems that Joe got into a bit of a row over Caress this weekend and is banned. As the mods have posted no notice, I don't know how long he's gone for.

Rumors abound that he got himself banned purposely in order to hide from you and me, K.

In your dreams pal, meanwhile the legend of Phillip Hughes begins tonight and i think that he will give the struggling Yankees a huge boost, look for Arod to smash the HR record for April tonight as i expect Hughes to put up a fantastic effort,

Give it time Beav, Coco's coming into his prime after having an awful injury plagued 2006, believe it, he'll be far better than Damon in due time. As far as why he's the everday CF and not Pena...Read Rumples post, it doesn't get any clearer than that.

Hugh!! thats like saying that Harris should have been given more time to come into his prime:rolleyes: , looks like poor old Coco is headed to the DL(again)

My pick 3 parlay that i have going for tonight which i am posting for JoelC is

1-Yankees minus 1.5
2-Baltimore plus 1.5
3-Pittsburge plus 1.5

I am praying that these 3 come through because it will pay for my weekend sp time if they do, if not i will be forced to choke the chicken.:)

Maybe someone should take this bet. After all, you did a pretty good job of predicting a sweep last weekend.:D

and I expect Hughes to give a fine effort...by 07 Yankees standards, five innings would be awesome
Five innings like the first one would be 10 runs allowed.

And what the Christ is Doug Mientkiewicz doing batting second?

Phil Hughes sounded like a very cool and confident fella during his pre-game interview with SW
Well, he didn't give them a lot of innings and he got whacked around a bit, but his control was pretty good. He only walked one, wasn't pitching from behind much at all, and struck out five.

Certainly if he stays healthy, he'll be a fine pitcher down the road. And he ought to be of some help to this mess of a pitching staff even this year. The major shortcoming is likely to be a short leash as they're not likely to overwork their prize young arm. He threw an awful lot of pitches tonight for only 4.33 innings, yanked after 91 pitches.
