Not a Leafs fan or much of a hockey fan. Just tired of seeing Canadiens fans puffing themselves up over what was practically a farce. So how are the Habs this year. Just 1 damn point ahead of the much and often injured Bruins. WOW!

You are absolutely correct in your assessment of the Habs, Merlot. I cannot agree more!

Look, i think both you and I can agree that the Bruins & the Leafs have had disappointing seasons. We both expected them to do much better this year than they have. I agree that injuries had quite a bit to do with the Bruins lack of success, but i'd like to point out that the loss of Phil Kessel's scoring touch hurt the team badly. I'm sure you're aware of this. The Leafs, well, they were disappointing also. But i never expected them to win the Cup this season & was quite aware that if they did make the playoffs, they would have trouble getting through a round or two. I'm also quite aware of & have stated that the Leafs are a long-term rebuilding project, which began on July 1st of this year. I estimated that it would take at least 3 years for them to contend & be one of the league's top teams. Rome wasn't built in one day, after all.

But what astonishes me (no, not really!) is the arrogance & stupidity expressed by the majority of Habs fans over the years, especially over the past 2 seasons. THESE CLOWNS ACTUALLY BELIEVE THAT THEY HAD A TEAM THAT WAS ABLE TO WIN THE STANLEY CUP!!!! LOL!!!!

When have you heard any of these clowns admit that the Habs suck? Never. Instead of admitting to the truth, they'll instead retaliate the only way they know how: they'll bash the Leafs. They'll never admit that their sad-sack poorly managed team is one of the worse in the NHL. If it wasn't for the exploits of Halak (and Price earlier in the season), this team would be among the top 5 worse teams in the NHL. The only time they score is when they're on the powerplay, and they can't wait to get in overtime since they've had a horseshoe up their asses whenever a game would extend to the extra period.

Anyways, i knew way too well that you can't rely on your goaltending game in and game out. The goalies will burn out after facing so many shots and constantly saving the fort. Look what's going on now: Carey Price is DONE and he gets booed everytime he plays in Mtl. He can't win a game!! And now, Jaroslav Halak is starting to look human after all & playing like Jaroslav Halak is supposed to play like. I'm watching the game right now and it's 5-1 Philly....and Halak is still in the net. Habs really suck, even more than i imagined!!!

The Bruins will bounce back and will probably squeeze into the playoffs. Theyr'e better than their record indicates & have very good coaching. But they have to let Tukka Rask play the bulk of the games if they want to advance to the playoffs. Tim Thomas' signing to a big contract was a mistake. The Leafs will play out the rest of the season with their prospects getting a lot of ice-time, building for the future, which has always been the plan. As for the Habs, they'll once again make the mistake of holding on too long to their free agents & will likely miss the playoffs. If they don't, they'll squeeze in & get eliminated in the first round. And yes, they'll once again lose players to free agency & not getting much, if anything, in return. Sad! (Not really! LOL!!!)

Can you imagine the Scabs w/o decent to great goaltending this season? i seriously think scab fans are the most moronic fans in all of sports, at least the bangwagon scab fan, which describes MOST SCABS FANS

And now, Jaroslav Halak is starting to look human after all & playing like Jaroslav Halak is supposed to play like. I'm watching the game right now and it's 5-1 Philly....and Halak is still in the net. Habs really suck )

Hello Doc,

Yes, we agree completely.

I only know what I hear on the local sports radio WEEI about the Bruins. They just set a record losing streak for the team that went back to 1924. DAMN! But what I keep hearing is injury after injury after injury, and a first line that was practically non-existent with up to 4 injuries as I heard. Yes, losing Kessel took a spark out of their scoring. But if they had him it wouldn't change the effects of all these injuries, and many of them seem chronic...likely to recur.

I am sure your assessment about the Bruins is correct, since I have heard much of what you said already. They are a big mess. It's very disappointing after the great year last year.

As for the rest of this stuff between the Leafs and Canadiens, you guys seem to be having a wonderful time. It's just too bad that there is little real discussion and the Fucktard comments are as common here as the baseball thread...often from the same source(s) too.

Well, good luck Leafs.

Cheers,

Merlot

Leafs have no incentive to win....they know they won't make the playoffs this year.....they're a team with a great future ahead of them and it's time to play the kids & give them some much-needed NHL experience. Look out next season!!!

I didn't know LSD was still popular, but judging from this post it's always been in fashion at the Holliday household.

This is pretty much what you said at the start of this season and the season before that. You'll probably still be saying it when they lower you into the ground for the final time. As a leaf fan, your present and past both suck, so all you can do is talk shit about your future. The fact is your FUTURE sucks too!

I see a day in the near future where current Habs fans will be trading away their ugly jerseys in exchange for a Leafs jersey.....to be part of a great Canadian tradition, and forever ashamed of a sinking ship (a.k.a. Titanic) at the Bell Center. Be proud, Leafs fans.....be proud to wear the blue & white maple leaf!

The way the leafs play they should be wearing PINK jerseys - except for Phaneuf and Komi: theirs should be YELLOW!

maybe ms. cairo can talk the other 2 village idiots into watching his "favorite" past time, mens figure skating!:eek::eek:...

meanwhile ms.C is remembering the last triple , double, quadruple jump his favorite male skater last made

I see you must have been sampling some of Holliday's LSD recently. Your idol Holliday is the only MERBer who posted about his love of figure skating. Maybe you got confused (as you usually do when it comes to sexuality) while sitting on the couch with him sipping cocoa and watching his old Battle of the Blades tapes...or is that the plan you two "VERY close friends" have for Valentine's Day?

Halak & Habs get blown out of Bell Center by Quebecer Daniel Briere & the Philadelpha Flyers

MONTREAL -- The hometown boy who literally gave the Habs the finger two years ago & signed with the Flyers came back home to lead the Flyers to an easy victory. Daniel Briere had three goals, and Jeff Carter scored his third goal against Montreal in two nights, leading the Philadelphia Flyers to a 6-2 victory over the Canadiens on Saturday night.

Briere opened the scoring 4:37 in and put the Flyers up 5-1 with 6 seconds left in the second with his second goal of the game against Jaroslav Halak. Briere completed his hat trick when he beat Carey Price on a penalty shot midway through the third for his 21st goal.

Dozens of bandwagon-jumping fans were seen heading to the box office after the game requesting a refund. Hundreds of fans wearing Habs sweaters were seen leaving the Bell Center after the game chanting "Habs suck!! Habs suck!!" while on their way to downtown pubs looking to drown away their sorrows. It sucks these days to be a Habs fan, doesn't it?

Game notes
Flyers C Ian Laperriere dropped Montreal's Ryan O'Byrne to end their fight off the opening faceoff 4 seconds in. O'Byrne was grossly overmatched in the fight, reminding us of an overmatched Michael Spinks in his fight with MIke Tyson.

Here's a videoclip of what the two-faced hometown fans think of Ryan O'Byrne:

I don't know how you say it in english but in french we say ''le passé est garant de l'avenir...''.
Well, that applies so well to the poor franchise down there in To.No past(well, very distant past),no present,no future...
LOL!

Yes it is, since most Leafs fans are not delusional about their team. We admit we're disappointed in our team, and that they're not playing well this season. But we have hope. Most Habs fans are delusional and don't realize that they're team is one of the worse in hockey. They still cheer for bums like Lapierre, Sergei Kostitsyn & D'Agostini, who shouldn't even be playing hockey in the NHL. Sometimes i wonder if most Habs fans are not bipolar?

I don't know about "most" - perhaps you're right. I do know about TWO however (namely you and your adoring little follower) who ARE.

You were both bragging at the start of the season about how exciting it was to be a leaf fan, how the leafs were so much better than the habs, how Burkie's boys were going to show huge improvement, bla bla bla. (Somehow, I don't think 29th place is a huge freakin' improvement - even for a joke franchise like Hogtown.)

Your little lapdog was challenging the world to bet him that the laffs would be ahead of the habs (that is, until a couple of guys called him on his challenge and he ran like a scalded little chicken). Even a day or two ago you wrote that the leafs' disgusting record this year is due to bad luck and a tough schedule. Pure BS on all counts, as usual.

We admit we're disappointed in our team, and that they're not playing well this season.

Really? You mean a 19-31-11 record, 15th (in other words, last!) in the conference and 29th (in other words, second last) in the entire league, and the worst goals against in the entire league means they're not playing well? Well, CONGRATULATIONS on finally seeing the light!

Now, how about no Cup win since 67? How about no appearance in the final since 67? How about not even making the freaking playoffs since 2004 (that's the lockout plus 5 consecutive years - absolutely pathetic!)? How about getting fewer points every year for the last 4 years: 91 in 07, 83 in 08, 81 in 09, and with a MISERABLE 49 so far this year after 61 games they're on pace for approximately a LAUGHABLE 66 points by the end of this 2010 season! How about the fact that this dismal drop was "achieved" (ha ha) under the "direction" (ha ha) of your saint, Brian Burke?

How about the fact that the current leafs team is one of the worst teams in hockey history even though just a few short months ago you and your fan club president were bragging about how good it was going to be? How about the fact that this horrendous record has been "achieved" (ha ha) even though your inept bunch has had NO significant injuries? (Don't even dream of mentioning Komi - the leafs are better off without that inefficient gutless puke and his stupid selfish penalties!) How about the fact that Burkie has traded away next year's top draft picks for a "merging superstar" (in the famous words of your illiterate parrot) who has failed to "merge" ? How about the fact that even after Burkie's recent "blockbuster trades" that you raved about, your pathetic bums are 2 and 3? How about the fact that THOSE two lonely wins were shutouts by Jiggy, meaning that the leafs HAVE TO win by shutout or they won't win - not surprising, since Burkie traded away a third of the leafs' akready anemic scoring in order to get Jiggy and that overrated cancer Phaneuf?

Most Habs fans are delusional and don't realize that they're team is one of the worse in hockey.

Montreal: 63 games played, 64 points, 29-28-6.
Toronto: 61 games played, 49 points, 19-31-11. (They have won LESS than one third of their games - pathetic!)
And, just for comparison, Detroit: 61 games played, 68 points, 28-21-12.

You talk a big game (just like Burke and Wilson) but the FACTS say otherwise.

well a couple scabs fans in here do like mens figure skating so whats that tell ya? o wait, you said "BI" POLAR.... silly me, my bad...:D

Funny you should say this because once again your VERY close friend Holliday has again posted about Battle of the Blades. Check the thread on the Olympics in the Lounge, unless Doc has already deleted his post, as he often does. Doc is the ONLY MERB poster who has ever bragged of his love for figure skating but as usual you ignore the facts and make up your twisted little bullshit.

Interestingly, in that same Olympic thread, Doc writes of his favorite version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah". It's by gay singer Rufus Wainwright. Doc says he also likes the version by gay singer K.D.Lang. You, in the same thread, write of how you admire bisexual singer Nelly Furtado. Of course you both love Brian Burke and were probably saddened by the tragic death of his gay son Brandon. Hey all this acceptance is wonderful but there does seem to be a common theme here, which goes well with the frequent difficulty you two leaflovers have in telling the difference between the sexes.
