Here is a good summary of the William Nylander contract situation:

Thanks for the article. What i'm hearing from my NHL sources is that the two sides are less than $300 000 apart. This is why it would be ridiculous for them not to come to an agreement by the weekend.

You said he 'adds serious depth to this squad'. In other words he's a depth player. That's what 'depth' players do: they add depth to their teams.

What difference does the terminology really make? You can only put 3 forwards out on the ice at any one time, and you can't field a team with only 3 forwards playing all 60 minutes of a hockey game. You already said he would not be a first line player in TO anyway, and he wouldn't break up the first lines in Colorado or Boston or some other NHL teams either. But all those teams would love to have him to use during games. Regardless of where he plays, he will make any NHL team better and lengthen and deepen their roster. That does not mean he is a depth player. If someone gets hurt, which is possible or even probable, he could be on the first line with any team. Right now in his development, he is equivalent to a very good 6th man in basketball on an excellent team and a starter on a bad or average team.

Laine has again seized the NHL lead in goals scored. It could actually come down to him or Matthews if Matthews can make up for the lost time he had. Interestingly Pekka Rinne is back! Number 1 in GAA and a close number 2 in save %. Looks like another Vezina Trophy for him.

KARLSSON vs SENS this afternoon....strange to read that....lolll.....he kept his house in Ottawa and spendt some days there with his family since Thursday......am sure fans will give him a very warm welcome.....he said after his carreer he will live in Ottawa....he is really in love with the city...

IMHO...he will not sign cause he is sure he will not play for them next year in regard of massive contracts for Matthews and Marner.......and will play in KHL the rest of the season....my two cents.

Again IMHO Leafs will trade him now before 5 pm or.....next year. Even if William is not playing this year in NHL Leafs still retain his rights ...so they will b back to the contract talks next season....and b sure they will trade him then.....my two cents.

If that happens, what compensation do the Leafs get for him?

If he signs with the KHL the Leafs don't get anything back. But they do retain his rights & whenever he'd decide to return to the NHL the Leafs would own him or would have to be compensated by a team wishing to sign him. Same situation as today.

I can't see Nylander wanting to waste his career in the KHL, which i consider no better than the AHL or other North American minor leagues.

Wilson Ejected

I am sorry but this play looked like incidental contact to me:

http://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/...als-ejected-hit-brett-seney-new-jersey-devils

There has been a complete sissification of the NHL, almost as bad as the NFL. These are violent sports, they were created with a root element of violence and the continual effort to remove all violence from the sport erodes the sport because the essential element of both sports is violent collisions between human bodies.

I watched the replay over & over last night and also came to the conclusion that the contact was incidental and that there should not be any discipline handed out to Wilson on that play. However if you listen to many of the pundits Wilson should not only be disciplined but also kicked out for the rest of the year!

Thankfully the NHL saw it differently and just chose NOT to discipline Wilson. The league didn't even think it warranted a hearing and although i'm no fan of Tom Wilson, the league made the proper call.

William Nylander re-signs for 8 years at $9.25 million per season

I just heard this on Leafs TV. I'm shocked that the Leafs would have agreed to give him all that money on top of a no-trade clause. You'd almost think that Marc Bergevin was the new Leafs GM.

Just kidding.

Yes fake news..lol.....no confirmation anywhere....this story is ridiculous....he would have signed some days or weeks ago.....it.s obvious he will not.....not sure his dear dad was his best advisor BUT we are dealing here with peoples with big big EGOS...lolll

About KHL...he will play there just to stay in shape and don't forget --if him and his dad like money so much---Kovalchuk and Jagr got a lot of money playing there....lolll.

Look behind you.
Koskinen is 7-2-1, looks like Talbot will be on the bench for awhile.
I think Talbot's contract runs out this year, dump him and get a backup for Koskinen.... Next to get rid of Chiarelli.
