My sources tell me that Ben Scrivens has been told by Randy Carlyle that he'll be starting tonight's game in Mtl.

I've also been informed that should Toronto lose, James Reimer will get Monday evening's start. Should the Leafs win, there's a strong chance Carlyle will come back with Scrivens against the Sabres.

The Leafs have named Clark MacArthur & Joffrey Lupul as alternate captains. Reserve alternate will be Jay McClement.

They replace Mike Komisarek & Mikael Grabovski.

Leafs re-sign Joffrey Lupul for 5 more years

Joffrey Lupul finally has some security.

The Maple Leafs signed the winger, who had a breakout season last year, to a five-year, $26.25 million contract extension on Sunday, a day after he was named alternate captain.

“Joffrey has proven to be a dynamic offensive player and since joining our hockey club he has fit in extremely well with our team,” said GM Dave Nonis. “His alternate captaincy is well deserved and, by signing this extension, we look forward to him playing a large role with the Leafs for many years to come.”

Lupul, who has been traded four times in his young career, will remain with the Maple Leafs until the 2017-18 season. His cap hit, starting next year, will be $5.25 million.

The 29 year old played 66 games in 2011-12 and ranked second on the Leafs in goals (25), assists (42), points (67) and power play goals (8). He established career highs for assists and points in a season.

The Leafs acquired Lupul along with Jake Gardiner from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for François Beauchemin on Feb. 9, 2011.

In 517 career NHL games with Toronto, Anaheim, Philadelphia and Edmonton, Lupul has registered 323 points (151 goals, 172 assists) with 313 penalty minutes.

The Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta native was originally selected seventh overall by Anaheim in the 2002 Entry Draft.

This new regime is starting to make a believer out of me.

$5.25 mil cap hit for a ppg player last year and a top line player? Great contract for Lupul and the Leafs.... Nonis is doing a good job.

Nonis is doing a good job.

What people who haven't followed the Leafs don't know is that in reality, Dave Nonis has been the de-facto GM ever since he agreed to be Brian Burke's right-hand man.

The current set-up has Nonis now heading a group of three, consisting of Dave Poulin & Claude Loiselle. Cliff Fletcher remains an advisor to the general managment team.

I know, it's too soon to refer to them as The Three Wise Men.

I saw Brandon Prust in action yesterday ( We will miss him )

During the fisticuffs, I saw Colton Orr was back

We loved him as a Ranger

Will Orr stay on the big team ?

Opinions ?

Best Regards

I just looked and saw that he went with John Scott

John was the only guy I thought who could match Boogaard

And we had them both as Rangers...

PS- I don't think that he hit Scott, I think Scott fell down

I'm glad to see him back in the NHL

He has to improve his skills

We got him from Boston when everyone gave up on him...

I wish him luck

Best Regards

I agree that it's great to see Colton Orr back in the NHL. A major concussion he suffered in a fight with George Parros was one of the main reasons why he struggled to get back to the big club. Also the fact that Jay Rosehill had taken his spot on the roster (once Orr had recovered from his brain trauma) and who's skill level was was a notch over Orr's.

But Colton Orr looks like a great guy and i remember one of this last goals, scored against the Habs.....i don't believe i had ever seen former coach Ron Wilson smiling as much & that happy. He seems very popular among his teammates and since he's on his last contract year with the Leafs, he probably needs to perform decently and most importantly, injury-free, in order to find work next season. I doubt it'll be with the Leafs, since other guys such as Mike Brown can provide the toughness. I believe they're currently grooming Mark Fraser to eventually take over Orr's spot as the team's main tough guy.

You're right, by the way. That giant John Scott also reminded me a lot of Derek Boogard. Huge!!!

Scott and Boogaard were on the Wild at the same time, so they never had to face each other

We forgot Chara BTW ( another giant )

That was quite a mistake by the Islanders to trade him

Leafs beat the Caps again... JVR 2 goals, Kessel 2 assists

Wish we could play the caps and canadians every game

Good job by Ben Scrivens in goal after sitting the last 4 games. Our problem is not our goalies like everyone thinks, it is a combination of better and CONSTANT forechecking by our offensive guys and playing a little tighter/tougher defense by our Defensmen. Surprisingly, Phil Kessel has done a pretty damn good job on the D side of his game and once the first goal goes in, look out!.

GO LEAFS GO

On another note, what the hell has happened to the Great 8?

Ovechkin's physical game over the years might finally be catching up with him, as Don Cherry once predicted it would. He's also played under 3 different coaches over the past 12 months. Is it possible that such an offensive force can thrive only a Bruce Boudreau-type of system? There's also the fact that he's no longer playing next to his favorite right-winger, Alexander Semin, who's now playing for Carolina. A recent game had Ovechkin playing with former Leaf Joey Crabb. Joey Crabb on the top line? Are you f$&$ kidding me?

The time to trade Ovechkin would be NOW. His market value may never be as high as it currently is. However, he and the owner are close & most people doubt Leonsis would agree to allow his GM to trade Ovechkin.

About Ovies physical game, the first 4 yrs into the league, i was also with the belief that it would take so much out of him that he would not be a TOP star for long. Still a 6 million dollar a yr player, but not worth what he is getting and i doubt he ever gets back to that "elite" level like a Crosby/Stamkos/Giroux

Congrats to Phil "The Thrill" Kessel on scoring his 100th goal as a Maple Leaf tonight in the "Peg". Even tho this was his first goal of the season, he has become a good, yes sir, GOOD two way player under Carlyle and could of easily had 8-10 goals by now, just been horribly snake-bitten,,, Great win in the toughest place to get one on the road tonight in the "Peg"....... next up, beating montreal again at the bell centre saturday night in prime time on HNIC!

GO LEAFS GO!
