Hahaha, I'd say check ARod's since he's being linked to that HGH Doctor Galea out of Toronto, but he's sucked so bad this season there's no reason to check! Who was Manny playing for last year?
I read an interesting piece on Pay-Rod the other day. He's hitting .285, not totally out of keeping with his career numbers. His strikeout rate is actually down a little bit. In the past, about 20% of his outfield fly balls leave the park; this year it's a bit under 10%. So while he's making contact, he's just not hitting the ball as far, not surprising for a man of 35. Jim Rice, for example, saw a serious decline in his power at 31 and by 35 it was all but gone.

It's quite possible that A-Rod's days as a 40 HR guy are past tense and that he's now a 25-30 guy. That shouldn't be too much of a problem for the Yankees as they only owe him another $198,000,000.

I'd like to congratulate the Toronto Blue Jays for their little run in the first division. It was nice while it lasted, but, alas, all fantasies must sometimes come to an end.

Jays now tied with the Red Sox, 2 games back of the Yankees for the Wild Card.

But i wonder.........

HOW THE HELL DID THE RED SOX LOSE AT HOME AGAINST THE KANSAS CITY ROYALS ???

Girardi rested A-Rod and batted Cano cleanup tonight and with the grand slam tonight, Cano has now hit 7 homers off of lefthanders. Really, he is such a scourge to lefthanded pitching that you cannot bring in the lefty specialist to face him. He is very unusual because he hangs in well against lefties and wait for a pitch he can crush. His at bats against lefties are ferocious. They used to get him out by throwing him sweeping curveballs off the plate which he would chase, but he no longer swings at those pitches. He waits for a pitch he can handle, and anything over the plate he can handle. He is #2 in the AL in batting at .351, behind Morneau.

Hughes with 7 good innings and Chan Ho pitched an excellent 9th inning. Chan Ho has either been awful or terrific, there does not seem to be any in between with this guy.

Swisher hit an upper deck homer off Carmona. He also seems to be making better contact and realizing his potential as a hitter. Last year I thought Swisher had a much better swing than anyone I have seen who hits .250 and he was striking out way too much for someone possessing such a nice swing. He is making better contact. He lost 12 pounds and worked hard in Arizona in the offseason. It's called pride and guts Iggy. I really think he was unhappy with the way he played last year, and I was unhappy with his play despite the overall acceptable stats. Now he has done something about it. That is why Yankees fans love this guy, he epitomizes the attitude of the team.

EB: Now repeat what I say Iggy (left) and Joe.t (right).
Iggy: Joe, is his finger in you in the same place he has it in me?
Joe.t: Uhhhhh YUP! Uhhhhhh, feel so great too...hyuk, hyuk hyuk.

Daaaaaaammmmn! How can the Red Sox go on a dominating tear against the best teams in all of baseball and lose two straight to the Royals, especially after Matsuzaka and Wakefield just gave stellar performances their last time out. Must be lack of a real challenge equals lack of effort equals loss.

puke,

Merlot

PS

I've been soooo nice this year in this thread. I earned it...lol.

Iggy,

Here is the video on Swisher rocking Carmona's fastball out:

Cano's grand slam:

The last one shows about 3 different angles on the homer.

The Yankees finally DFA'd Randy Winn who was as usless as tits on a bowl.

When Granderson was reactivated it came down to Winn or Russo, and the Yankees decided to keep the more versatile Russo and eat the $1,100,000 they are paying Winn. Winn admitted in his final interview that he was "terrible", and he was, both offensively and defensively. The Yankees had signed him as insurance in case Gardner was not ready to be an every day player, but Gardner has shown himself to be ready as an every day player. At best Gardner is the every day left fielder, at worst, Gardner can be platooned very occasionally with Russo. From what we have seen of Thames in the field, he should only see grass in an emergency situation and should be a part time DH, against lefties.

Ironically, Russo reminds me a lot of what Girardi was like as a hitter, tough out, not too much power. He and Cervelli are both in the mold of Girardi as hitters so it should hardly be a surprise that Girardi is fond of them. Russo is also defensively versatile as he can play both the infield and the outfield without embarassing himself. He is actually decent with the glove in left field, though he occasionally makes mistakes with his throws. He appears to be another mentally tough young kid, like Cervelli.

I feel badly for Winn who is a classy guy, but the tits on a bull analysis of Joe.T basically is a correct summary of what he currently brings to the table to a major league team. Even in his younger days he was, at best, a poor man's Bernie Williams with no power at all. He was signed as insurance on Gardner and the insurance is not needed at this time.

Horrifying Injury at Yankee Stadium!

In a truly horrifying scene at Yankee Stadium, A-Rod has hit a hard line drive flush off the side of the head of Cleveland Indians starting pitcher David Huff. The ball caromed off Huff's head into right field for a double. Huff has been taken off the flied on a stretcher but gave the thumbs up sign to the Stadium crowd as he was taken off. It's the hardest hit line drive off a pitcher's head I have seen since the Bryce Florie incident.

Huff will presumably be evaluated at a hospital for a potentially severe head injury.

Orioles' Jones Detained At Canadian Border

Apparently the Canadian authorities have stepped up border enforcement and detained the Orioles' Adam Jones, who may have been mistaken for Adam "Pacman" Jones of the NFL:

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5230674

Apparently Jones took a shot at the Orioles for not helping him on his Twitter account and then thought better of it and deleted it, but the post was copied by someone, LOL. These guys think you can put something on the Internet and then make it go away, I guess.

There are other reports that the Border guards who detained Jones were Blue Jays fans who wanted to fuck with him so that his head would not be sraight for the series against the Blue Jays. As I recall, the Canadian immigration authorities pulled the same shit with the Yankees' Dave Winfield back in the 1980s after he accidentally killed a bird with a throw during a Yankees-Blue Jays game in Toronto. They doctored up some bullshit charges against Winfield the next time he and the Yankees came to town, and the whole thing was BS just designed to fuck with Winfield and the Yankees. In this case Toronto is ultimately competing with Orioles for last place in the AL East so they need to do what they can to keep the Os in the cellar.

Still considering Cashman's record over the years, Winn would still rank as one of his better signings.

Ironically, Russo reminds me a lot of what Girardi was like as a hitter, tough out, not too much power. He and Cervelli are both in the mold of Girardi as hitters so it should hardly be a surprise that Girardi is fond of them.
You know, Beav, you've said some stupid shit™ over the years, but this is the Grand Prix winnah of all time. Joe Girardi was a .265 hitter with no power who never walked. Perhaps you meant to write "automatic out" but your fingers slipped. You are right, though, about Russo being like Girardi. Though his major league experience is limited, he's showing no power and no patience at the plate. He is managing to hit .250, which is better than you or I could do. My Aunt Gertrude, however,...
