Why is Montreal not a food truck city compared to NYC or Toronto?

Seriously?

I love my food trucks and Montreal doesn't seem to have that food truck culture like NYC or Toronto.

Why is that?

I mean...you'll see some food trucks here and there in Montreal, like at Old Port or Place des Arts but it's nowhere near prevalent like NYC or Toronto.

I say this because I wanna enjoy a street vendor hot dog & fries after a night of drinking instead of going to la Belle Province lol.

It's just more convenient! Lol

We had them 10 years ago. Regulations and restaurateurs lobbying made it impossible to turn a profit

It's an interesting observation I haven't thought of despite having travelled to Montreal and NYC many times.

The food truck and food kiosk scene in NYC is fascinating, especially in the categories of Mediterranean cuisine and Mexican/tacos. There have been many times I have seen kebabs roasting on grills while walking in midtown Manhattan and have had my senses overwhelmed by the delicious smell of the food, only to get an obnoxious whiff of sewer gas or dumpster odor only 50 paces later. It's a city of all kinds of smells and aromas.

I didn't think French culinary habits lend themselves to food trucks. When I worked at a place in Montreal, they were very deliberate about their meals.

NYC and Toronto are Anglo cities, comfortable with a eat-on-the-run culture. That's just a guess though. I remember having a Dic Ann's burger out of a food truck.

Definitely agree, those halal carts with beef, rice and white sauce was my go to when I was in NYC. Hell even a good sausage stand with sweet onions and hot peppers would suffice.
