The hospitals has been over capacity since 20 years nothing new here. Lego the dictator had 21 months to prepare but even with the majority being fully vaccinated everything is the same. No different. Lego rather send millions of dollars to the OQLF, Bill 21 and 96 rather then use the money on where it matters like healthcare. The issue is what would you sugest to demonstrate our protest? The governement does not listen. It does not even listen to protests but it seem to be the only way to actually demonstrate concretely what its about. Am i in agreement with everything Max says? No. I am totally against his climate views for exemple. But concretely on a federal level he was the only one who step up trying to defend us. The convervative at times look like they wanted to help but are afraid to do so because they may loose other voters and ultimately they do nothing concrete beside a tiny line in the news here and there in support.

We are going in a direction that being unvacinated could mean not being able to buy food at the grocery store eventually. We could even be going a very dangerous route where governements try to force the vaccine on us. They already do but in a semi hidden way, but im talking litteraly this time. I’ll go on record saying that the vaccine is the biggest weapon that we have in the fight to get our hospitals under control. I’m double vaxxed and will get the booster when I’m eligible. But let’s be real: the vaccine is not the only way out of this pandemic. I’ve seen and heard way too many people stating that as a fact when it simply isn’t true.

We knew going into the vaccine rollout that there’s only a short period of time in which a vaccinated individual can’t get infected, but otherwise vaccinated people very much do contribute to the spread of the virus. This vaccine helps flatten the curve, but definitely doesn’t stop the spread. If anything, it makes the spread more hidden and less controlled.

And on top of that, we know that all bets are off once variants emerge. So even if we were 100% vaccinated across the country, what good will it be if our borders aren’t completely sealed? Variants will no doubt get into the country and spread.

The most important thing should have always been to protect the most vulnerable. Vaccination is a great tool to do exactly that, but let’s not act like it isn’t risk free. Especially when we’re talking about multiple doses of sometimes different products and technologies that were rushed to market by companies in a competitive industry. The risk isn’t in the science. It’s downstream from the genius’s that pioneer this research.

Vaccination is still the path that I personally choose, but we will never get the entire country to buy in on a bad sales pitch. And I feel pretty uncomfortable that our leaders are getting aggressive about forcing a solution with serious holes in it.

The tax is based on the theory that the unvaccinated are burdening the health system and should pay for that burdening. But the hospitalized vaccinated who are also burdening the healthy system do not have to pay. That is discrimination. So there is no way a law like this would happen in the USA.

My guess is that your Quebec politicians feel that 90% of the electorate and the judicial system will back them, so they do not give a fuck about the legal analysis.

Got a question for you: what does hospitalization for COVID mean? Isn't it a whole spectrum? For example the unvaccinated could be near death's door with oxygen saturation near 70+ but the vaccinated would just have an 39C temperature and breathing normally with a nasal cannula. Personally I've been hospitalized before (not for covid) and I wasn't in any great pain or discomfort.

No, I am saying such a law by any State would be subject to successful attack as unlawful/unconstitutional discrimination. With regard to Voting Rights there is plenty of litigation on it that is shaking out in our courts and which will shape the law going forward. It's way premature to comment on that.
